Fenton is adopted from an orphanage at age four. His new dad abandons them when Fenton is 11. He fails two grades: first and fourth, but he’s saved at camp when he’s 17. He serves the Lord eagerly. After the army he marries Carol. They go to Bible college, have two children, and he teaches and stays busy in Christian service. His daughter turns from the faith taught to her. Fenton resigns from the pastorate but becomes a chaplain. He and Carol continue to serve the Lord in unique ways.

On his way to Vietnam Tim tells God that he can’t live for Christ. His Marine buddy, Lee Gore, tries to encourage him. After ten months of combat, Tim steps on a land mine. He comes to with Gore weeping and praying for God to spare Tim. He loses both legs; no more running. After eight months in the hospital and 13 operations, he goes home, falls in love with Connie and they marry. He surrenders to preach the gospel and then becomes an evangelist. During a revival, his old buddy Gore appears and they are reunited. Tim is still an evangelist.

As an only child, Laura grows up privileged but without God. At 14 she wins first place in a country music TV competition. She meets Rusty, also a musician, and they marry when she’s 17. They go to Nashville, hoping for success but fail. They have two sons, then he leaves her for another woman. She fights the divorce, loses after three years and lives in denial. For the next nine years she serves the Lord while his mother and she pray for reconciliation. Finally, she accepts her situation, meets Don, a musician, and they marry. Both minister in music & still married after 30 years.

Odell’s childhood is horrible: his father beats him and leaves him with uncles; his uncles give him marijuana; his mother vanishes periodically. Sent to a school for kids with behavior problems, he does well but goes back to drugs. He quits school to work, gets involved with Loretta who cannot be faithful and they come and go in each other’s lives. He loses his driver’s license, goes to jail and there a man comes and tells him about Jesus. Put on probation, he tries to stop sinning then gets angry at God when Loretta again fails him. The first part ends when his mother commits suicide and with Loretta expecting his child.

Saved at age nine, Tommy dreams of a baseball career but God has other plans. He becomes a paramedic and firefighter at age 23. God puts suicidal people, drug addicts and other desperate people in Tommy’s life, and he witnesses to one and all, including a former neighbor who brought fear to Tommy as a child. He even recounts one instance of failing to witness to a dying man. All the vignettes are examples to us of God’s grace and love and our responsibility to tell others.

Mesmerized by magic, Phil studies and practices to be a magician. In high school he hears a sermon and goes forward, giving his life to Christ. He graduates in 1932 and works as a magician. An agent friend mocks him for praying because Phil is too poor to buy food. So Phil and his mother pray, asking God to honor His name. The next day Phil is offered a contract with Lyceum, going to schools across the country performing his magic. God takes a back seat. But Phil hears sermons and sees a sign that makes him think. The first part ends as Phil leaves the circuit to go to Bible college.

Phil is in Bible college when he falls in love with Jane, the president’s daughter. She spurns him and becomes an army nurse. His friends encourage him to pursue her, and he visits her with an engagement ring. She interrogates him on his theological position so he keeps the ring. Still a magician, he entertains troops but is deferred from serving because he’s in seminary. He and Jane ultimately marry and then go to Japan as missionaries. Old friend, Don Hoke, visits them and also comes to Japan as a missionary. Phil, 93, still serving God.

Bill’s family in Belfast, Ireland is poor but hard working. Bill’s father and he both gamble pocket money. They don’t go to church, but his mother takes him to Sunday evening services at a local mission. At school he learns to memorize scripture daily. Working at fourteen, he begins stealing money from his boss. Then a friend is saved at the mission and proselytizes Bill. He goes to a prayer meeting and gives his life to Christ. He confesses his theft and begins preaching at fifteen. A benefactor at the mission sends him to Bible school in Glasgow. The first part ends as Bill prepares to go to India as a missionary.

Joyce and Bill Scott meet in London, where she tells her life story, salvation and call to India while they ride the bus to the shipping office. They become acquainted as they sail to India together with 77 other missionaries. Bill has several humorous mishaps. They share the train ride to Secunderabad, their mission field, for language training. Two weeks after their arrival Bill proposes marriage, and the first part ends with Joyce waffling, unable to decide and not wanting to be married.

2995 Bill & Joyce Scott – Part 3 Sep 27, 2026

Joyce and Bill marry and serve with the mission school in India. Bill has a vision from God to get Bibles into every home in India, but illiteracy is widespread and the nation is closed to the gospel. After nine years with the mission school, they leave to work at the mission hospital. In time India opens more to the gospel and they begin a school of evangelism, sending local men out to villages. Joyce writes a literacy manual and they teach people to read using the Bible as content. Hundreds of thousands learn to read. Many stories of God’s work over the years. Joyce dies but Bill still goes back to India.
