    Unemployed with Anna Roisman

This is a safe space for anyone who has ever lost a job, left a job, or is sitting at their desks bored out of their mind right now! Based on the hit live digital talk show, “The Unemployed Show,” where Anna and guests would wear pajamas every week and commiserate about bad jobs, this podcast is a more intimate look into the world of unemployment and underemployment. Anna sat in front of a camera on her couch for ‘The Unemployed Show’ for 2 years and then got a job hosting a show in front of hundreds of thousands of people on the app HQ. Is she the fairy godmother of unemployed millennials? Some say yes! Hopefully this podcast will inspire you to pick yourself up and get a new job, or stay on your couch and chill all day. Either way, you’ll laugh with Anna and her guests about the insane things they did for work. Each week Anna interviews friends, comedians, and professionals about their worst (and best!) job stories and how they figured out life as an unemployed person. Oh and sometimes they call a stranger from the internet who is unemployed and in need of a pep talk. It’s sweet.

Episode 29: Let's Go (To Work With) Atsuko Okatsuka! Sep 09, 2020
    Show notes

On this week's episode, Anna is joined by the hilarious comedian, Atsuko Okatsuka (Let's Go, Atsuko!, OHAYO)! Atsuko relives her days of working (and singing) at Coldstone Creamery, tutoring kids in a rich suburb of LA, and convincing Anna she can make it through one of her dance classes. Anna and Atsuko bond over their hostessing jobs in restaurants, and their love/hate relationship with the word "brand." (Atsuko hates it, Anna loves it...which is so on brand for both of them!) Then they have Alex call in, (longtime listener!) who is not only a delight to have on, but also gives the girls career advice when he predicts their endgames! You won't want to miss Anna and Ellen's discussion about the one time Anna worked for a Trump. It's an amazing episode and the full video is available on Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast. Follow @AtsukoComedy @AnnaRoisman and of course @UnemployedPDCST for more laughs!

Episode 28: "She Swings and Boy Does She Swing!" with Jennifer Bartels Sep 02, 2020
    Show notes

On this week's episode of Unemployed, Anna interviews the very funny and incredible actress/comedian, Jennifer Bartels. You may know Jennifer from American Woman (Paramount) or Friends Of The People (TruTV). She's also a queen of commercials and Anna lives for her new Geico spot that has aired all of Covid. They talk about how they both moved to NYC to do Broadway, but found comedy, how they like to buy expensive designer shoes when they get a job, and how they need to play sisters in a project! Jen gives awesome advice on careers that go up and down, and breaks down the vulnerability of auditioning. We call an unemployed stranger named Meggie, who although she lost her job, is a competitive runner training for maybe the Olympics, and that blows everyone away. Wait til you hear her mile time! Unreal. Also, Anna and Ellen dissect Anna's nightmare about losing all of her jobs, and they try out a new segment of pitching yourself for a job in 30 seconds! Listen, Rate, and Review! Follow @UnemployedPDCST @AnnaRoisman @thejenbartels for the goods! For full video check out Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast.

Episode 27: From Jamba Juice to Beetlejuice with Alex Brightman Aug 26, 2020
    Show notes

In this week's pandemisode, Anna is joined by the very funny (and two-time Tony Nominee) Alex Brightman! Before quarantine Alex was starring in Beetlejuice on Broadway. Anna and Alex talk all about their love of theater, their semi-famous dogs that get stopped on the street, and their fascination with Blue Man Group. But more importantly this episode is full of amazing stories about Alex's jobs he's had over the years and the work he's put into his career. And meeting Barbra Streisand. This episode is super inspiring, Alex has great advice, and he makes us all cry when he talks about the job that changed his life. (Did we mention the Tony noms?) Also, Anna and Ellen break down their emotional reactions toward LinkedIn and Glassdoor emails...and it's not pretty. Episode 26: From Employee Of The Week to Fat Carrie Bradshaw with Chris Burns Aug 19, 2020
    Show notes

This week on Unemployed, Anna and Ellen discuss their new project to watch & discuss movies about being fired, and pick a first film to watch! Look out for mini movie eps! Also, Anna is joined by her dear friend who you may know from Betches or Middle Children Podcast, Chris Burns AKA @FatCarrieBradshaw!!! Anna and Chris chat about how Chris had 3 full time jobs before the age of 21 (I KNOW - WHAT?!) and has barely been unemployed, which we fully endorse. They share nightmare stories and celebrity gossip about working in restaurants in NYC. Chris shares his greatest advice about keeping a job and it has to do with your standards, babe! At the end, they call an 'Unemployed Stranger From The Internet' named Erik. We love chatting with Erik because he's full of positive energy although his edible marijuana manufacturing company was raided and now he's a full time stay-at-home Dad. What a story! Episode 24: Paid In Garlic Knots with Nicky Paris Aug 05, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 24 of the "pandemisodes," as we've been calling them, is here! Anna is joined by her friend and hilarious comedian, Nicky Paris! You may know Nicky from LATV, E!, or the tanning salon in Staten Island that you were once locked in because he was out getting lunch... We dive into Nicky's employment history and discuss all of his jobs from working in a pizza place at age 12 to becoming a telemarketer in college. Until that one day when he wasn't anymore. Nicky also famously tells Anna he's never been unemployed, and we love to hear it! (No we don't, who even is this person?!) It's the episode that will make you think, "wow I wish Nicky talked my ear off sometime while checking out at CVS." WATCH THE FULL EP ON WWW.PATREON.COM/UNEMPLOYEDPODCAST! Episode 23: "PSA - Never Call A Nanny A Babysitter!" with Christi Chiello Jul 29, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome to the 2nd "Pandemisode" where the emotions are high and the quality is...less high!? Anna is joined by her guest, hilarious comedian and nail enthusiast, Christi Chiello! You may know her from Comedy Central or Chris Gethard Presents. Anna and Christi dive into her work history, which began at her favorite place to be, the mall. Christi takes Anna through her "surfer phase" (she didn't surf, just loved the clothing), as well as her nannying years. Anna makes the mistake of calling it 'babysitting' and you'll have to listen to see what ensues. Bonus part of this episode is Anna calls an 'unemployed stranger from twitter' named Jess who was a flight attendant through May(!!) and is currently sipping wine waiting to hear about the future of her job. It's riveting. Don't forget to RATE, REVIEW, and SUBSCRIBE!!! And check out the Patreon! Ellen & Anna would totally appreciate it.

Episode 22: From Finding Love To Claiming Unemployment *Together* with Jared Hacker Jul 21, 2020
    Show notes

We're back! And we're all unemployed! And we're recording from home? OKAY! We've got Anna's friend & former HQ producer Ellen on the pod. This week, Anna's guest is her boyfriend (made famous from Instagram), Jared Hacker. Jared is a producer who has worked in TV for the last 15 years and is extremely employable! (His last job ended because of the pandemic.) And yet here they are, living together in one apartment, both pretty unemployed. This episode is about how to balance being in relationship while being unemployed. More than ever, people are going through this transition and its tough when you're both stressed! Hopefully others can relate! But Anna and Jared have been making a lot of videos in their bathroom (not porn) so if that's what's keeping them busy and smiling, so be it! (for now) The video of this episode is available right now to subscribers of the Patreon! So subscribe if you want to see our hot faces. (Literally... it's 90 degrees in NYC)

Episode 21: If It Doesn't Serve 2 Purposes, It's Not Worth It with Dave Ebert Jun 23, 2020
    Show notes

This episode was recorded in early March when Coronavirus was just becoming serious in NYC. It's very interesting to hear the difference in tone of anticipation compared to what we've now experienced. (Brian calls it out!) But this episode is really special because we've got Dave Ebert (HBO, TruTV, MTV) on and he's one of the best in the industry at his craft and at giving advice! Dave is an amazing actor, director, and hustler! We discuss early jobs he had working in daycare and theater, to booking major national commercials and selling a TV show. While Dave is humble and very realistic about his accomplishments, he's also a HUGE DISNEY LOVER (nerd). This comes in handy as we call Timmy Dubz (yes that's a handle) and discuss how he's not going to work because of Covid and decides to take his family to Disney World instead. Timmy was unable to go to Disney World, as it had to close due to Covid, but listening to this episode feels like we all went...? I still hope he and his family are able to go one day!

Episode 20: HQ Memories and Beyond with Sharon Carpenter May 26, 2020
    Show notes

It's the 20th episode of the podcast!!! CHEERS TO THE UNEMPLOYED! And what better way to celebrate than an ep with Anna's (latest!) former coworker and friend, Sharon Carpenter. You may know Sharon from HQ Trivia, or from her show The Royal Report on PeopleTV! Sharon is a broadcast journalist, who spent many a night in the makeup room with Anna while they prepared for their HQ games. This episode they discuss their favorite memories from working at HQ, answer HQtie submitted questions, and discuss their work lives before HQ! Sharon dishes on her favorite interview with Mark Hamill (YES, LUKE!) and gives awesome advice on how to always have your own projects going on. It's a really special episode, and Sharon does an impression of Anna hosting... so like, GOLD!
