    Unemployed with Anna Roisman

This is a safe space for anyone who has ever lost a job, left a job, or is sitting at their desks bored out of their mind right now! Based on the hit live digital talk show, “The Unemployed Show,” where Anna and guests would wear pajamas every week and commiserate about bad jobs, this podcast is a more intimate look into the world of unemployment and underemployment. Anna sat in front of a camera on her couch for ‘The Unemployed Show’ for 2 years and then got a job hosting a show in front of hundreds of thousands of people on the app HQ. Is she the fairy godmother of unemployed millennials? Some say yes! Hopefully this podcast will inspire you to pick yourself up and get a new job, or stay on your couch and chill all day. Either way, you’ll laugh with Anna and her guests about the insane things they did for work. Each week Anna interviews friends, comedians, and professionals about their worst (and best!) job stories and how they figured out life as an unemployed person. Oh and sometimes they call a stranger from the internet who is unemployed and in need of a pep talk. It’s sweet.

Episode 49: Ordained by Day, Gov. Cuomo by Night with Maria DeCotis Feb 03, 2021
    Show notes

This week's guest is the very funny comedian and content creator Maria DeCotis! You may remember Maria's Governor Cuomo videos throughout the pandemic, or caught some of her other funny videos online! But today she's here to tell us about her other jobs, which have been everything from working in retail at Urban Outfitters to becoming ordained and marrying people! Hot tip? She's still marrying people, over Zoom, in a pandemic, and we love that this is happening. Anna and Maria bond over Boston University where they both went to college (but never met!) and talk about Maria's jobs working at school. Plus, we get a taste of the phone call she had with Cuomo when he praised her for her videos! Also on the episode, Ellen follows Anna on Linked In and Anna thinks it's a prank until she tells her it's not. We discuss our love/hate relationship with the networking site...who we'd still love to sponsor us! It's a great episode and we know you'll love to follow @MariaDeCotis !! Also find us on social: @UnemployedPDCST (twitter) @UnemployedWithAnna (IG) and check out our patreon where this full video exists!! Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast.

Episode 48: From Babysitting to Bartending to Big Mouth with Gil Ozeri Jan 27, 2021
    Show notes

We've got a great episode this week! Our guest on the pod is the very funny Gil Ozeri (Big Mouth, BlackAF). Before he was a successful TV writer and actor, he had many jobs. He was also Anna's first improv teacher at UCB, and owes it all to Gil! Gil tells all about his babysitting days and how he once thought someone was breaking in while babysitting his cousins. We also have to commend him for getting hired at a graphic design company and even pretending he had a design partner when really he had no skills yet. Gil was also a bartender and was "discovered" in a bar he worked at for doing an impression of the owner and from then on he started doing improv at UCB. It's a really fun episode and we close out with a game where Gil has to pick a job that doesn't exist anymore. Also, Ellen and Anna discuss the backstory of Willy Wonka...and should it be a movie again or not? He didn't really have the best practices at his place of work. If you love the episode, follow @tallgilozeri on social media and watch BlackAF and Big Mouth on Netflix! Oh and follow us at @UnemployedPDCST, or go give some love to the Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast. Thanks love you! HIRE US.

What a week! New president, new episode. We're so excited to have the very funny comedian and host, Abbi Crutchfield (Up Early Tonight on Hulu) with us on the pod! Abbi talks about working for no money in childcare, to working for a little money in childcare, to actually being a mom responsible for her own child. We also discuss all of her temping gigs, and how she wanted them to turn into full-time jobs, her stint at a pizza place, and of course her new late night comedy show for moms, starring moms, about moms. Definitely check it out! Also, Anna and Ellen discuss the controversy about Blake Shelton's new song, "Minimum Wage" and they have very interesting (even contradicting?) feedback! Plus, we take a call from Matt, our new friend, who had the fortunate luck of graduating from law school and passing the bar... during the unfortunate year we call 2020 and is having trouble finding a job. Give it a listen, because maybe you have advice for Matt too! It's an awesome episode and if you want to watch the full video, please check out Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast! Episode 46: From a Blueberry Farm to America's Next Top Model with Sarah Hartshorne Jan 14, 2021
    Show notes

On the latest episode of the podcast we have the very funny Sarah Hartshorne on! Sarah and Anna were together right before the pandemic, like days before quarantine, and discuss what their last day together was like before never seeing people in person again. She is a writer for Abortion Access Front, and a TikTok star, and a very funny comedian. Also, fun fact? Sarah has been editing resumé's for a while but has famously never used a resumé to get a job. Her tips are super helpful!! But before all of this, she was on A_merica's Next Top Model_. Yeah, the one with Tyra. And we had SO much fun hearing alllll about what goes on from the audition to the makeover to sitting around without the ability to make a phone call. If you like this show, Sarah shares the TEA! Also, we learned that she worked on a blueberry farm for 9 years! 9 years! This is a fascinating episode and I know you'll love it. Anna and Ellen also discuss Peleton vs. Soulcycle, which Anna is clearly passionate about. They reminisce about being in yoga classes IRL when you were so close to other people. You know, real life! Episode 45: My Mom Has Never Been Unemployed...with Lee Roisman Jan 06, 2021
    Show notes

When I started this podcast I didn't think that my mom would be a guest, but here we are at Episode 45 and it's pretty great. Lee Roisman (aka Lee Durst) is a cool mom, who happens to be a dentist and professional tennis player. She famously claims to have "never been unemployed" which makes me question if we're even related. Lee Rois had a lot of jobs before she became a dentist, and she cannot remember a time where she didn't have a job. We discuss what it's like to have a daughter who hosts a podcast about being unemployed and who chose to be a comedian as her career. This is her first podcast appearance. But she just discovered what a "DM" was so I'm sure she's available to guest more.It took her (and my Dad) 29 minutes to get set up to record this. Ellen and I also discuss one of the greatest movies in the employment world, "9 to 5"!! Don't forget to rate, review, and DM my mom! @LeeRoisman

Episode 44: A Lot of Sh*tty Internships! with Tori Piskin Dec 30, 2020

This week's final episode of 2020 is with Anna's friend, the very funny comedian Tori Piskin (Got It From My Mama Podcast) They talk all about running into each other early in the pandemic, getting ads for the tie dye sweatsuits on Instagram, and of course their very funny moms. Tori tells us about how her mom has "dead people connections" when it comes to career contacts. Tori tells us all about her sh*tty internships and how she probably had too many of them! Transcribing and buying soap were pretty stressful because of her dyslexia but they make for very funny stories now. We discuss Tori's editing career and all of the very funny videos she makes and has made along the way. At the end we have Tori play our new game of rating jobs that don't exist anymore! Ellen and Anna discuss Anna's chase for her freelance checks, and how she accidentally screwed herself over with payment for a job. It's a great way to close out the year so enjoy! Don't forget to follow @ToriPiskin @AnnaRoisman @UnemployedPDCST and RATE, REVIEW, SUBSCRIBE PLZ! Video is exclusive to Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast members so check it outtt.

Episode 43: An HQ Holiday Reunion with Lauren Gambino Dec 23, 2020
    Show notes

This episode is basically a family reunion! We have Lauren Gambino of HQ Sports fame on the podcast this week! Anna, Ellen, and Lauren worked together at HQ for a few years and although the bar that they hung out in closed, their friendship remains! They discuss all of Laurens jobs and how there was a theme in her employment history: she lied about her age on multiple occasions to get jobs! Lauren and Anna talk about their American Idol auditions, working in restaurants, her job at Disney World, interning at CNBC, her brief broadcast journalist career, and more! We also talk about her audition for HQ, and QVC. It's a great episode because Lauren tells such fun stories! Anna and Ellen discuss what it means to shut off for the holiday vacation and come up with real automated replies. Ones that reflect what you're actually doing! Anna also announces a huge purchase she recently made. Definitely go watch the video of this pod on Patreon to see our adorable faces and outfits Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast.
