163: The Walking Dead #168; Paper Girls #15 Jun 08, 2017

Show notes

Not all books are created equal, and this week gives us two examples of how you wrap up an arc in spectacular fashion, and Under the Comic Covers is here to dig deep into why these two issues work so well. First, we discuss The Walking Dead #168, an amazing issue that still manages more than a few laughs, a few tense moments, and enough sadness to crack the toughest heart. Then we move on to Paper Girls #15... we are left with so many new questions, and the promise of something great when this book returns.

158: The Walking Dead #167; Manifest Destiny #28; Paper Girls #14 May 04, 2017

Show notes

Under the Comic Covers is no stranger to depressing material... but this week? This week delivers an emotional punch that, even though we saw it coming, landed with a hard gut churning thud. The Walking Dead #167 tackles one of it's saddest moments in a long history of sad moments, and we are there to talk it through.

In addition to the misery-fest that is The Walking Dead this month, we also cover some lighter fare... and by that we mean a couple other books that are violent, chaotic, and occasionally funny. Manifest Destiny #28 returns to the psycho fog, and Paper Girls #14 finds our intrepid explorers reunited, if for just a brief moment.

Enjoy... and we hope you are all alright. Consider this your group therapy.

Show notes

This week we go Under the Comic Covers of Copperhead #12 and Rat Queens #2. Both books are returning after long absences and the switch in artists, but we are getting into the groove of the new presentations and we are happy across the board. Plus, Mr. B offers up a new Top of the Stack in John Layman (yes... THAT John Layman from CHEW!) and Sam Keith's new book from Aftershock, Eleanor & The Egret.
