A Conversation with Rabbi Mendy - Part 2 May 20, 2019

Show notes

In the midst of tragedy and darkness, the light shines brighter than ever... We are so glad we got the opportunity to sit down with Rabbi Mendy from the Chabad of Poway for part two (let's be honest, it was a part one do over...) Rabbi Mendy's wisdom, perspective, and humility was such a privilege to experience! We're so excited to share this episode and the message that God has for all people!!!
Notes:
1. Rabbi Mendy goes through the Noahide laws or Seven Universal Laws. He shared a website to learn more. It's called, Ask Noah. It's worth mentioning that Rabbi Mendy and Uncommon [good] aren't directly affiliated with this site, but it is a good starting place to understand more about these seven laws.
2. We mention at the end that you can submit questions for a future podcast via email: hello@uncommongoodsd.com
Enjoy the episode!

A Conversation with Rabbi Mendy - Part 1 May 10, 2019

Show notes

Recently we had the privilege of sitting down with Rabbi Mendy from the Chabad of Poway. It was such a rich and awesome conversation inside the Chabad itself. But. The recording stopped a few minutes in!!! Nooooo....
We were able to capture some really great stuff before it cut off and we want to share that with you now. But think of this as a teaser to a future episode where we sit down with Rabbi Mendy again. He is a fount of wisdom and knowledge and we can't wait to share that with you in the future. For now, have a listen to what we got.
Notes:

Rabbi Mendy works with the youth and children at the Chabad of Poway.
The Chabad of Poway experienced a tragedy in their walls recently. To learn more about how you can help, visit the Chabad of Poway Website
Cody talked at the end about a homework assignment to Google search "Noahide Laws". Check that out to get context on the Seven Universal Laws Rabbi Mendy talked about.

Episode 7 - Let's Talk Bible Apr 11, 2019

Show notes

This week on our podcast we talk about that big leather-bound gold-leafed book that is gathering dust on so many people's shelves across America... The Bible.
We're big fans of the Bible... But what if we told you, the Bible isn't the foundation of our faith? WHOA!!! Wait a minute... let's not get crazy now, right?
Seriously though, this thing we call Christianity didn't start because of the Bible. The Bible exists because some odd people in the first century chose to follow "The Way" of a controversial Rabbi. Which led to some writings. Which furthered the movement. Which eventually gave us the Bible.
And why did these odd people follow this Rabbi?
Well... you gotta listen to find out ;)

Episode 6 - Common Denominators Mar 17, 2019

Show notes

This week the team sits down at Dawn's Kitchen table [cause treehouses don't have wifi] for a conference call with a leader who helped shape us all: Dr. Bruce Humphrey. After retiring from the Senior Pastor gig, Bruce went on a journey of redefining himself. Which led him to the world of interfaith dialogue and leadership. Buckle up for a great conversation about finding unity in diversity, and checking our Westernized hyper-protestant version of Christianity in order to learn from "the other".

Episode 5 - Dividing Lines Mar 05, 2019

Show notes

The team takes on a light a fluffy topic: Dividing lines. We talk about walls, American Christianity, who's in, who's out, and how Jesus actually lived. Trigger warning! This episode may spark feelings about your deeply held beliefs, opinions, stances, etc... Just know we aren't picking on anyone and it all wraps up nicely. So hang in there!
