The Villisca Ax Murders - Part 2 Oct 30, 2021

Show notes

PART 2 - LIVE! The Villisca Axe Murder house has become sort of a novelty in American folklore…. A place to visit, a place where people try to challenge the ghosts of the past to show themselves….. a place where people giggle – and pose for silly pictures, joking about hauntings……. a place and time that we are so far removed from, that we seem to have sort of forgotten that the Villisca Axe Murders were REAL. An absolutely beautiful family was annihilated here. 6 sweet little children, ranging in age from just 5 years old to 12, tragically and painfully lost their lives.

This house is haunted… by ghosts?… I don’t know….but definitely by the true & tragic reality. There’s a very real and very sad energy left behind in The Villisca Axe Murder House. It’s an energy that you can feel – and as our recordings show, one you can hear.

S2:E3: Serial Killer Anthony Garcia: Kelli Brink with Bob Motta of Defense Diaries Sep 18, 2021

Show notes

Welcome back to True Crime IRL. THIS is part three of my series I did with Bob Motta and Darron Wood, of the Defense Diaries Podcast, where we are diving DEEP into the Anthony Garcia case.

Garcia is convicted of killing 4 people over several years in the Omaha NE area…… and technically, that makes him a serial killer. BUT – was he really a serial….or was he a jaded psychopath with a specific hit list, seeking revenge on Creighton University? AND…….did he really even commit these murders at all?

If you haven’t listened to PARTS 1 and 2 of this series yet, go back and do that first – and then…come back HERE….because we are diving deeper into the crimes….into the killer’s MO….and into the trial.

S2:E2: Serial Killer Anthony Garcia: Kelli Brink with Bob Motta of Defense Diaries Sep 10, 2021

Show notes

Welcome to part two of my deep dive into the Anthony Garcia case - with Bob Motta of the fantastic podcast, the Defense Diaries. Bob was part of Anthony Garcia’s defense team five years ago when this “serial killer” was tried for the murder of four people. Two double murders within a five year timeframe – the first in 2008, and the second in 2013 – would have police in Omaha NE wondering if they had a serial killer on their hands. The only really link was each victim’s affiliation with Creighton University in Omaha… and a former medical resident there named Anthony Garcia. Years later – and hours away, in Chicago IL - criminal defense attorney Bob Motta would receive a message in the middle of the night from Garcia’s family, requesting legal representation. And the years that followed would be a series of bizarre rabbit holes, and one of the most exhausting – and interesting - trials in Nebraska history. Today, I talk with Bob Motta about the Anthony Garcia case, podcasting, mental health – and SO MUCH MORE…. I’m Kelli Berens-Brink, and THIS is True Crime IRL – part TWO of our Deep dive into the Anthony Garcia case. You can catch full new episodes of True Crime IRL every Friday wherever you get your podcasts. Thank you to Captain from True Crime Garage for my kick ass theme music.
