Rex Heuermann Pleads Guilty + DA Tierney Presser Apr 09, 2026

At yesterday’s hearing, Rex Heuermann formally pleaded guilty to multiple murder counts tied to the Gilgo Beach killings and admitted responsibility for seven charged murders plus the killing of Karen Vergata as part of the plea package. Prosecutors laid out that he will receive three consecutive life sentences without parole plus four additional consecutive 25-to-life terms, while also requiring him to waive most appeal rights and cooperate with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in behavioral interviews about the murders and any possible additional victims. During allocution, he gave direct admissions victim by victim, ending years of expected trial litigation and setting formal sentencing for June 17, 2026.

Investigators quickly focused on Flynn after concluding the scene did not match a forced-entry home invasion and that physical evidence inside the house pointed inward rather than to an outside suspect. Prosecutors are now preparing for trial around a theory that the crime scene was staged, while also raising concerns about Flynn’s post-arrest jail communications and alleged efforts to influence witnesses.

Stacey Wondra - Preliminary Hearing Closers and Verdict Apr 03, 2026

At Stacey Wondra’s preliminary hearing, prosecutors played lengthy police interview footage in which Wondra described Michael Vaughan being taken to the Wondra home, restrained with duct tape, placed in a duffel bag, and later transported to another location, while defense attorneys argued those statements were inconsistent and not a true confession. Michael’s parents also testified emotionally about the day he disappeared, while detectives explained cadaver dog alerts, surveillance evidence, and why investigators believe Michael was first buried in the Wondra backyard before being moved. By the end of the three-day hearing, the judge found probable cause to move the case forward, meaning Wondra will now stand trial on murder, kidnapping, and evidence-destruction charges.
