    Tribe of Testimonies

The Book of Mormon, a scripture of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, describes two peoples: Lamanites and Nephites. After a last great battle, the Nephites were destroyed from the face of the earth. The remnants of the Lamanites are among the ancestors of today’s North American Native Americans. Andrea Hales (Navajo), the host of Tribe of Testimonies, interviews faithful Native American Latter-day Saints of tribes across the U.S. and Canada to learn how the Gospel of Jesus Christ has influenced their lives. Everyone’s story is different—conversions, families, missions, educations, careers, talents, achievements, failures, trials. As we share our stories, maybe we can strengthen each other. May we all walk in beauty. // This podcast is not sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. However, we love the Church. Eileen Crocker - White Mountain Apache Jan 18, 2022
    Show notes

There's something about Zumba instructors. Maybe Zumba instructors are supposed to have beautiful souls. Eileen Crocker definitely has a beautiful soul. Seems like she is the type of person that you'd like to dance with. Seems like she's the type of person that you'd be uplifted by just being around. I love her testimony that she knows that missionary work and temple work are foundational to knowing and loving the Savior. I love that she values her family and teaches her children by example. We would totally be hanging-out friends if we lived closer. I'm grateful for Eileen.

    Tawny McEwen - Navajo Jan 11, 2022
    Show notes

Tawny McEwen and I have a lot in common--and so much not in common. But I feel like that with a lot of the guests here on Tribe of Testimonies. I think that's something the Lord wants us to all feel about each other--that we're family in one regard or another. Anyway, Tawny is pretty amazing. The way she and her family have loved their extended family is a prime example of how to witness our beliefs. Do I truly love someone with Christlike love? Because that's what has been asked of us. I also loved how Tawny and her mom have been able to uncover so many family history names. Honestly, I'm a little jealous of that. One day...one day.... I think you're going to find something in common with Tawny as well. I really hope you enjoy this conversation.
P.S. Sorry about the crackly sound quality...sometimes technology isn't spot on.

    Kyle Forsyth - Montaukett & Pueblo Jan 04, 2022
    Show notes

When I started doing some research on creating this podcast, Kyle Forsyth was one of the first "strangers" that I reached out to. I'm so glad that I did. I value his friendship and his testimony. Kyle, to be honest, doesn't know that much about his tribes as far as their traditions, language, and culture. That's okay. I feel like a stranger in my own tribe sometimes. But, he knows that his ancestors have been playing a part in his life throughout his life. What a blessing to know that their hearts are turned to him as he turns his heart to them! His talents have blessed every listener of this podcast. And, hopefully, as you listen, you too will be blessed by the spirit that he strives to maintain in his life. I am so grateful for our friend, Kyle.

Here are two short stories about Christmas time from two wonderful Navajos. Thanks to Elliot Bryant and Betty LaFontaine. We hope these thoughts bring you cheer and gratitude for the blessing of a Savior. Yáʼátʼééh Késhmish! Merry Christmas!

Charity Anangkwe Fleming - Anishinaabe, Wabauskang First Nation Dec 14, 2021
    Show notes

Charity Fleming is a busy woman! She works AND has a multitude of pet projects. She has four kids and a husband. And she's the Primary President in her ward!!!! Whew! I just got tired typing all of that. I love talking to Charity and learning about her conversion. It's actually pretty perfect for Christmastime, to talk about giving your life to the Savior or finding Him. Either. I loved listening to her metaphor about the hillside and seeing all the different things, and yet knowing that all those things are part of the same thing. We all can't see it all. And sometimes we can see different parts of the overall Plan. I also loved learning about Charity's willingness to take other leaps of faith. It's a testament that the Holy Ghost can and will help us make crucial decisions. I hope you enjoy this time with Charity.

    Gabriel LaDue - Ojibwe Dec 07, 2021
    Show notes

Gabriel LaDue has had a very interesting life--and he's only in his 20's! His father is Ojibwe and his mother is eastern European. He's been blessed to have been able to spend time with both cultures as well as other cultures. But the culture that has been the most impactful on him is the culture of Jesus Christ. I loved spending time with him and talking families, experiences, and Gospel. It was super fun to have experiences envisioning the things he described, only to learn as we went along in the conversation. Yup, I really enjoyed getting to know Gabe. I hope you do too!

    Rachel Crouse - Hopi Nov 30, 2021
    Show notes

Rachel Crouse and I have something in common: we did NOT expect to start something big--but the Spirit witnessed that it was a calling and the Lord made doors open. Rachel and her family have started a non-profit to help the residents on the Hopi Reservation. It has brought her closer to her family, to her roots, and to the Lord. Also, Rachel witnesses of the blessing a ward family can be in the lives of the member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Being on necessary bedrest for months was only possible with the love and support of those around her. Now she has a beautiful daughter to witness of the goodness of those who are seeking to share one another's burdens.
    You can find Rachel's non-profit at www.hopirelief.org.

    William Locklear - Lumbee Nov 23, 2021
    Show notes

As we started to talk, William Locklear shared some things about how he's grateful for the Lumbee community he hails from. He shared how he feels connected to them whenever he find another Lumbee. He didn't say it, but I think that is a parallel with how a lot of us feel about sharing the Light of Christ with others--we feel connected. William also shares how he has been blessed by trying his best to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and he feels that difference when he doesn't. I love that William recognizes the good in other people. I love that he has a mission in life. I love that William is a light.

Mariah Pope - Juaneño Band of Mission Indians Acjachemen Nation Nov 16, 2021
    Show notes

I love to giggle. I actually did that quite a bit in this interview with Mariah Pope. It just seemed like we had a lot in common. And I loved that she was able to see the humor of things that have happened in her life. Like being called into a Relief Society presidency when she felt not just that the calling should go to someone else, but that she didn't even know the sisters she was called to serve. (I've had that same experience!) I love how she was just like, "Well, I guess I'll try this college program...might as well." I kind of had a similar experience. I love how she has come into a family that seems so different than her own--and yet it's becoming the perfect fit for her. Definitely the Lord is guiding her life. And I love that she recognizes Him.
