Those Conspiracy Guys — Comedy
Those Conspiracy Guys

Those Conspiracy Guys is a history, comedy and true crime podcast from Ireland produced and presented by Gordon Rochford and the topics discussed are varied and wide-ranging; from the speculations on the out-there conspiracy theories like aliens, time travel, and ancient civilisations to researched discussions on the more grounded, historical and provable conspiracies like political and financial corruption, scientific chicanery and secret government agency shenanigans.
In long-form group discussions; interviews with authors and experts; live stage shows and streams with an eager audience; and collaborations with other conspiracy creators; Gordo examines all the wildest notions and most unbelievable theories in the ever broadening genre of ‘conspiracy’. From the high-concept topics like inter-dimensional lizard men, complicated assassination plots and potential future technologies like alternative simulated universes; to the much more tangible topics like discussing serial killers and mysterious true crime cases; exploring the history of religions and cult leaders; and historically profiling the lives and times of some of the most influential people to have lived, and died.
Those Conspiracy Guys brings you on a light hearted and hilarious exploration of these fantastic stories through thoroughly researched and painstakingly contmeplated production; making it easy and fun for these sometimes heavy and complicated topics to be digested, with lashings of good old irreverend Irish craic from host Gordon Rochford and a cavalcade of hilarious comedians, committed creators and fabulously interesting guests.

TRUE CRIME -
On this episode we talk about one of the most important contemporary internet figures and how his ingenuity, innovation and imagination changed the face of the internet culture we know today and has set forth a standard by which the governments of the world should maintain the great global resource of the World Wide Web, this one is all about the life and death of Aaron Swartz.
Aaron was a child prodigy and from his early life to his tragic and untimely death he sought to make his dreams for the world come true. A suspiciously timed suicide and a slew of government level infractions fraught Aarons life with stress and legal turmoil, but through it all he managed to leave an indelible mark on the culture and on the world.

Joseph Kondro Jan 07, 2021

Show notes

TRUE CRIME -
This episode is a cracker and tells the tale of one sick pup; Joseph Kondro. Comedian Betsy Speer joins me to chat about Uncle Joey and his misadventures with the children of his neighbours in Washington State and beyond. A lesser known killer, as murderer charts go; his story is one of manipulation, coercion, and deceit using the crutch of decorum and public decency as his shield against his despicable crimes.

The Port Arthur Massacre Dec 25, 2020

Show notes

TRUE CRIME -

On this episode we talk about the catalyst for disarming the Australian population and an event that was so destructive to society at the time; it is used as the yard stick to measure the severity of all mass shootings until just very recently; this time we are talking about Martin Bryant and The Port Arthur Massacre.

Port Arthur was a mass shooting perpetrated by one Martin Bryant in April 1996 where 25 people were wounded and 35 people killed at the hands of Bryant and a variety of firearms and other methods. Bryant was a local oddball and a very wealthy man but was of 'diminished capacity' according to locals.

A chequered upbringing and early life, mixed with some convenient accidents and suspicious deaths of wealthy close friends of Bryant's; paints a picture of a ruthless man who would kill to get what he wanted. But the truth is far from this simple and clean cut.

Accusations abound of US and Israeli military personnel carrying out the shooting and the whole operation being a false flag in order to trigger the national disdain for guns and their supported abolition in Australia from the mid 90s onward. Some other very interesting twists and turns in this case make these accusations and conspiracy rumours actually seem plausible.

Malcolm X Dec 16, 2020

Show notes

DEEP DIVE -
On this episode we discuss one of the most quoted and revered civil rights leaders of all time; a man whose ideological journey is sometimes truncated to serve political purposes; a man who the term 'died before his time' was created for; Malcolm X.
Born Malcolm Little to a family of meagre means he grew to become one of the heads of the black nationalist organisation known as The Nation of Islam. With this vast and popular platform and a lifetime of prejudice encouraged by the teachings of black leaders like Marcus Garvey; Malcolm enthralled thousands of Black Americans with his rhetoric.
But circumstances and allegiances changed quite quickly for Malcolm and with the interference of the CIA and FBI as well as sedition within his own organisation; Malcolm was marked for death as a figure that was just too popular and powerful to live. He died by the hands of assassins, former friends and colleagues and his passing left a sinister mark on the record of American Civil Rights.
His life and teachings however are still discussed, taught and applauded in many different ideological circles. We talk about the man and his growth, his beginning and his end. A life well lived and ended too soon.

Greg Carlwood - The Higherside Chats Dec 10, 2020

Show notes

INTERVIEW -
On this episode I chat with podcast legend Greg Carlwood from the mighty Higherside Chats and we get into it about current events including the rona and the coming vax issues facing our society; the election (which was upcoming at the time of recording); and where the US is heading in this current binary bipartisan and diametrically opposed culture we seem to find ourselves in.
Greg has researched and then spoken to some of the finest minds of our time and his show is unreal. Im a fan for more than 7 years and his interviews are by far some of the best in podcasting! The guests and depth of knowledge Greg gleans from them means that he would have to learn a thing or two on the way and in this interview I try to find out where his info is coming from and we both check our sources.
Hope you enjoy this one and sorry for the delay in release; I got a bit poorly there! :( Its all explained in the intro!
_______________________
You can find all the Higherside Chats info, merch, tickets, shows and other content here at the website https://www.thehighersidechats.com which includes the THC+ program; which is a subscription to THC where you get a whole extra hour of every interview! Its one of my favourite podcasts and Im still listening after 7 years; top level guests and Greg is an absolute legend! Get listening on any and all podcast apps.

Luka Magnotta Nov 14, 2020

Show notes

TRUE CRIME -
On this episode we talk about a famed sick video maker, self anointed master criminal and star of the Netflix documentary series "Don't F**k with Cats" Luka Magnotta. Comedian Danny O'Brien joins me to chat about Luka and his sick scheme to capture the imaginations of internet sleuths to help him realise a twisted fantasy to commit a very public murder.
Across continents and through the power of the internet Luka killed Jun Lin on camera and put it on the internet; while a team of internet nerds were manipulated in a cat and mouse game to track him down, he fled from North America to Europe in a wild 'Catch Me If You Can' style chase which resulted in his arrest.
From Luka's admittedly rough and weird childhood to his gruesome execution of Chinese student Jun Lin he led a very strange and high risk life including dreams of becoming an actor and the nightmare of being forced to engage in depraved sexual acts for money!
Great craic had with Danny O'Brien on this one and you can find Danny on IG http://www.instagram.com/dobcomedy or on his website http://www.gardengigsireland.com if you want to be kept up to date about his future dates or even book him for your own show in Ireland :D

Austen Fletcher - Fleccas Talks Nov 04, 2020

Show notes

INTERVIEW -
On this episode I have great craic with Austin Fletcher from the hilarious and brilliant YouTube channel Fleccas Talks. Austin takes to the streets and interviews real people with real opinions; and gets into some scrapes in some of the scenes of violence and endless protests and marches that America has been subjected to (both sides) for the last 4 years.
On this episode we talk about Trump, the election, how he sees America, and what he thinks the future holds for the real America; the one he sees on the regular. What the future is for digital media and how censorship and a looming crackdown on free speech may influence mainstream media decay and the rise and rise of self created digital media.
Great chat with a greta guy and you can find him on Twitter @Fleccas and Fleccas Talks on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIpwPuJsrboNnf200oV8cWQ
