    Latest Episodes:
A Brief History of Imperial Stouts Jul 25, 2017
    Show notes
Since we're all trapped by this Gee Dee Icepocalypse in Indiana, we thought we'd release another episode to help ease the pain of being stuck inside with family members all day until football comes on later tonight. No need to thank us, we're just doing what we can to make the world
    a better place.
The beer style this bi-week is "Russian" Imperial Stouts. There is a startling amount of discussion regarding the history of the style. I know that's odd for us and you, but we thought we'd try something a little different.
First up, we have from Shoreline Brewing out of Michigan City Indiana - Worker bee barrel-aged honey imperial stout. Followed then by Stillwater Artisanal Beers out of Maryland - Surround Imperial Oak Smoked Wheat Stout.

Books and Brews Breckenridge and the Abrupt End Jul 25, 2017
    Show notes
This episode may contain more shenanigans than most, however if you're in to Game of Thrones, this may be the episode for you. If not, if you're interested in heaping amounts of dumb, this still may be the episode for you... In summary, due to technical difficulty, Pete and Adam had to share a mic. It's pretty much gross for all involve.
Books & Brews Sours of Ice and Fire series: Geoffrey Bourbon Barrel Aged Sour Belgian Style Strong Ale.

Next from Breckenridge Brewing Company, we have their 72 Imperial. As the beer is named after a car, of course Adam imparts all of his most masculine car knowledge upon us.
Not going to lie, if you're looking for genuine beer knowledge, tune in next bi-week. This bi-week is pretty much just for those who enjoy lunacy. Oh, and news brought to you by Deviate Brewing as they haven't pulled funding yet, because God knows why.

Triton Fieldhouse And The Sour Wheat Experience Jul 25, 2017
    Show notes
This show's featured style is wheat! And we review an old favorite from Triton, the Fieldhouse Wheat. We compare it to Stillwater Artisanal's The Devil is Other People sour smoked wheat ale. I'm not sure any two wheats could be any further apart on the wheaty spectrum that is wheat beer.

Adam provides one of his most disgusting beer sounds ever, and Pete may have located the sounds of a Rhino in heat. So, if you're on safari, make sure you turn the volume down.

Daredevil and Mo' Dank Double IPA's Jul 25, 2017
    Show notes
Today's style is the much sought after Double IPA, from Daredevil Brewing we feature their Ripcord Double IPA, dropping in at a hefty 9%. Toppling Goliath Brewing Company, King Sue Double IPA. Thanks to listener, Jon-Michael for the sweet beer.

Adam also offends every Star Wars fan ever, and officially should have his fandom revoked. Rob and Pete were disgusted, and there was much conversation regarding whether or not to post his shenanigans, but that's the only way he'll learn. Make sure you voice your displeasure in the comments.
We'd like to say things improve from there, but we all know that'd be a lie. We invite you to sit back, relax, and nurse that St. Patrick's Day hangover and while enjoying our latest episode.

    ESB's and SQFA's Jul 25, 2017
    Show notes
Looking for entertainment after Death and Taxes at Taxman Brewing? Why not settle in and have a listen to thespeakpodcast? This episode we bring you ESB's from 18th Street and Red Hook.
We start things off with Steel Hands and expertly transition to Red Hook's ESB. From there we give a shout-out to Bonge's Tavern in fabulous Perkinsville, Indiana.
Then, back by overwhelmingly popular demand, we bring back our most famous segment, Sports Questions for Adam. You shan't be disappointed.

    Soba Sode Jul 25, 2017
    Show notes
While it is Kentucky Derby weekend, if you're looking for something to do not involving mint juleps and funny hats, tune in to learn about Soba Ales. Or, at least, listen to three morons talk about Soba Ale. It probably goes without saying, but apologies to the following: Japan, Soba, Books and Brews, and Rogue. Truly and deeply sorry.
We kick things of with an offering from Books and Brews; their Shogun Soba Ale - Amber Ale with Buckwheat. Special thanks to listener Tim for the beer donation.
We follow up that Indiana beer with one from Portland; Rogue Brewing's Morimoto Soba Ale.
Be sure to listen until the end when Adam teaches us all how to get out of drinking related motor vehicle infractions. He has more than a little experience.
    Enjoy!

Books and Brews and the Mysterious Milk Stout Jul 24, 2017
    Show notes
Happy freakin' Saturday! Let us help you start your weekend off right by tuning in to learn about milk stouts! We present to you beer from Books and Brews and Left Hand Brewing.
Charlie and the Chocolate Milk Stout... ours was broken. It was more like Charlie and the Sour Milk Stout. If you see Books and Brews bombers on the shelves know that they have perhaps been kept on the shelf by the vendor for too long. We'd recommend going to the brewery directly to acquire their fine fermented beverages to ensure awesomeness. Plus, it's usually a fun time with cool people and excellent grilled cheese sangwiches. And, with the recent franchising, there is sure to be one near you.

We then talk Left Hand Brewing followed by shower beer and then things reach the usual level of random that you come to expect from our show.
    Enjoy!

Smokes & Chasers: A Quick Guide to Sizes & Shapes Feb 03, 2017
    Show notes
Here's the first thing to know about cigar shapes and sizes: there is no real standard.
A robusto from one company is likely as not to be longer and fatter than one from another. Add to that the fact that there are so many sizes to choose from; coronas, churchills, diademas, presidentes, gordos, perfectos, toros, panatellas, lanceros... Some companies forgo traditional naming conventions all together, making up their own names to further muddy the waters.
To sift through all this, first we need to learn how cigar size is measured.
Length is easy: it is simply measured in inches.
Width, called ring gauge, is a little trickier, as it is measured in 64ths of an inch.
For example, the "standard" size of a robusto cigar is expressed as 5 x 50. That means that it's 5 inches long, with a ring gauge of 50/64th of an inch.
Understanding that, we can get into specifics of size and shape a bit more.
From the 10,000 foot view, cigars are separated into two categories: Parejos and Figurados.
Parejos are the classic cigar everyone thinks of: rounded off on one end (the head), flat on the other (foot).
Anything that isn't a Parejo is considered a Figurado, of which there are many sub-categories.Within these shapes, cigars are further classified based on their size. Again, this isn't exact, as there is no real rule governing cigar size naming conventions. However, the following list contains the most popular types, and their "classic" measurements.- Corona - 5.5 x 44- Robusto - 5 x 50- Toro - 6 x 50- Churchill - 7 x 48- Gordo - 6 x 60And now that we've dispensed with the bare-bones basics, next time we can get on to the fun stuff: drinkin' an' smokin'.

    Inside Adam's Brain Jan 13, 2017
    Show notes

Have you ever wanted to know how Adam's brain works? Well, we asked him to take a short beer survey from Buzzfeed and record his thoughts. This is what happened. (Please note, this is note our quiz it come from Buzzfeed and was created by Kimberly Wang. Should you want to learn what kind of beer you are click here)

Like most humans, I commonly find myself pondering important questions, such as how to become a Jedi or why the hell is Nickelback still around? Like, is it easy to make a deal with the devil or something? Anyways, today's important question:

(I appreciate the legal drinking age warning, totes going to stop the younglings). I can finally know the answer to my burning question, a burning question that doesn't require a doctor's inspection! If you are still reading, here goes:
As ‘beer only’ isn't an option, looks like I'll have to go with tacos. I'm all cultured and sh**/the bell always goes good with drunkery.

Gotta go with Sweet Dee, as Charlie is my spirit animal. Moe was a close second, but if I get to interact with a cartoon it's going to have to be Jessica Rabbit.

I'm not ashamed! I need my daily intake of fruit, the pyramid says so.

Well I don't know any of these places, despite being supes cultured, so I chose the red one. Reminds me of England, where excess consumption started. Ah, regrets

As I am lazy, I need to be able to sit back and relax. And it even has arm rests, where I can regain my strength from carrying the podcast.

As I am a mature adult, going to go with beer pong. It requires so many skillz- bouncing, throwing…drinking…etc.

Where the hell is Jessica Rabbit? She best not be getting a Rogering. I guess that leaves me with Belle. Since she reads a lot, we can discuss Animorphs and Goosebumps!

I mostly love it, mostly. Hate is usually reserved for the next day, or when Pete and Rob hide the beers

Not quite the answer I was hoping for. You have just lost all legitimacy Buzzfeed! I'll show you sweet and bubbly, you sum bi***…

    Smokes & Chasers Jan 11, 2017
    Show notes
Our purpose here at Thespeakpodcast is primarily beer. Specifically, the drinking thereof and the (far less important) subsequent discussion and review.
"Indy beer. Indie beer." See? It's right there in our motto.Twice.Now, that's not to say that we don't have other hobbies...which incidentally can also be indulged while drinking beer.As you might have guessed from the title, I'm here today to talk about smoking whilst drinking, as a few of the podcast members are wont to do. We'll get into specific beer and cigar pairings in later posts. For now, let's start with some basics.
Beer has a number of points in its favor to accompany a cigar when compared to other types of libation, including:
    - Its price-point, which is substantially lower than the traditional choices (bourbon, scotch, brandy, etc.)
    - Its versatility, with flavor profiles able to properly compliment or contrast any cigar on the market
    - Its relative mildness, which, when compared to hard alcohols, won't overpower the flavors in a cigar
Cigars are much like beer, in that you have macro- and micro- producers, a wide variety of flavor profiles, and a wide variety of ingredients that create those profiles. For now, we'll just concern ourselves with the outer leaf of tobacco, known as the wrapper.
The wrapper contributes up to 90% of a cigar's flavor. Knowing which wrappers are which will give you a general flavor the cigar will exhibit. What follows is a list of the most common wrappers, and their general flavors:
    - Connecticut: Mild bodied, with smooth & creamy notes
    - Natural: Mild-to-medium bodied, with sweeter, sometimes slightly spicy notes
    - Corojo: Medium-to-full bodied, with earthy, peppery notes
    - Maduro: Medium-to-full bodied, with coffee and cocoa
    - Habano: Full bodied, spicy, can have hints of coffee and cocoa
A good rule of thumb is that the lighter a cigar wrapper, the more mild it will be. This is not always the case, but holds a good deal of the time.
So, with even that little bit of knowledge, we can start trying to pair our fine smoke-ables with beer. Starting out, it's probably preferable to try combinations that compliment each other.
For example, a Connecticut wrapped cigar would stand up better to a pilsner than a stout. On the other end, the cocoa usually found in maduro cigars would pair well with a chocolate porter or stout.
Next time, we'll get into more on the various sizes and shapes cigars can be found in, but for now, I've got to go.
My beer's getting warm, and my smoke is still cold.
