If you want to make things that matter, I want to help you. And if you've built your entire career around your creativity, you too may be asking: Is there a future for us? Or is it game over? I don't know what the future holds, but I do promise few are more dedicated to helping us find the answers than I am.

You're in the right place if:

    • You live to create. Your work isn't just a job but an expression of who you are.
    • You create to live. Your livelihood depends on your creativity.
    • You love making cool shit.

Whether you identify as introverted or neurodivergent (or both, like me)…

No matter if you're a misfit, a rebel, an outlier, or a troublemaker…

If you've been called weird, nerdy, dorky, quirky, or awkward…

Or if you’re an over-thinker, procrastinator, or perfectionist…

    You are welcome here. 😊

Come join me as I have honest, authentic, and candid conversations with NYT bestselling authors, Oscar and Emmy winners, experts across many different industries, and ordinary humans achieving extraordinary things.

My guest today is licensed psychologist Seth Gilihan, who is the host of the Think Act Be podcast as well as the author of Mindful Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. In our conversation, Seth and I dive deep into exploring what talk therapy is all about (specifically Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and how the addition of mindfulness techniques can be beneficial in treating anxiety and depression.

Whether you’re interested in therapy and currently receiving it, classify yourself as “yeah been there done that”, or are against therapy altogether, I highly recommend listening to this podcast. Seth not only shares how to specifically know if therapy would be beneficial to you (you might be surprised at the factors that determine this), he shares his key strategies that actually help you get to the root cause of your anxiety and depression so you can alleviate it. He also shares what he views as “false” when it comes to the traditional ways people are being treated.

In addition to our discussion of therapy, Seth takes us on a deep dive into the topic of mindfulness sharing the specific techniques mentioned in his book. You’ll learn all about what mindfulness really is (and how simple it can actually be) and all the ways in which it can help you. So whether or not you’re interested in therapy, Seth’s insights on the topic of CBT and mindfulness are nothing short of profound and in my opinion, too valuable to miss.

    • Why therapy might be beneficial to you (even if you don't think you need it)
    • What exactly is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
    • Why the traditional views of treating anxiety, depression and chronic pain might be false
    • The specific key indicators to look out for that suggest you need therapy (or outside help in general)
    • The single book passage that changed everything about the way Seth treats suffering
    • How mindfulness has become just another McMindfulness and Tootsie Roll (and what that means exactly…)
    • What Seth says “real mindfulness” actually is, and why his description is so liberating
    • A breakdown of the mindfulness techniques Seth uses personally and with his patients

Christiane Wolf, MD, PhD is a former physician who is now an internationally known mindfulness and insight meditation teacher. While practicing medicine, Christiane began noticing the mediation practices she was sharing were making a profound difference in the lives of her patients, and she is here to explain those changes with us today.

In our conversation together, Christiane dives deep into explaining the science behind how pain and our brain work (we have quite the geek out session). You’ll learn the 3 components of pain, how the words you use regularly can affect that pain, and which mindfulness techniques are helpful in both managing and lessening your experience with pain.

If you are experiencing chronic pain (or are even a physician who treats chronic pain) this episode is for you. Christiane wonderfully blends Eastern techniques with Western medicine and provides mindfulness practices that are simple, effective, and a true gift to anyone who is struggling with pain.

Anna Holtzman is a former television editor who, after healing from chronic migraines, shifted gears to become a licensed therapist and coach specializing in chronic pain recovery. Anna both helps people better manage their chronic pain, as well as understand the emotional cause behind it in an effort to release the pain from its source.

In our conversation, Anna shares that chronic pain is linked with our stress response and is nothing more than a protective reflex trying to alert us that something deeper is going on. We discuss the power of communicating with the body in order to better receive that message, as well as understand how we can go about addressing it. Anna shares many unlikely, yet powerful tools - including journaling - that you can start using to feel better today.

As you’ll learn from this conversation, there are many ways to work with chronic pain that don’t involve more prescriptions, more doctor visits, and more ‘coping’. Whether chronic pain is new for you, or you’ve been dealing with it for a long time, this conversation is a must listen.

My guest today is Julie Fahrbach, a familiar name in the Optimizer community and a long time fellow team member in the Optimizer Coaching & Mentorship program. Julie is a Somatic Movement Instructor and Bodywork Specialist on a mission to educate anyone with chronic aches, pains, and injuries that they hold the ability to not just lessen their pain, but cure it.

As we discuss today, Julie previously (and openly unhappily) worked in the entertainment industry for 10 years before experiencing a life changing moment just after leaving that lead to her doing the work she does today. Beyond discussing lessons of boundaries while working in the industry (or any career), Julie and I dive deep into the intricacies of chronic pain, unraveling the real cause to ultimately develop more effective strategies to work with it.

Julie's profound knowledge on this subject is nothing short of astounding. In fact, I got to be one of her clients to experience firsthand how effective her methods really are, which I also share in our conversation. This episode holds as many lessons in placing boundaries as it does valuable insights on chronic pain - including how to prevent it, manage it and cure it.

Is Artificial Intelligence Coming for Your Job? Maybe…and Here’s How to Prepare | with Michael Kammes Jun 27, 2023

(Note: In keeping with our theme of artificial intelligence, this episode is published with the help of AI in several areas. Even though it's super helpful, it still has a long way to go before it's capable of replacing a human for our workflow.)

In our previous episode, I spoke with Srinivs Rao about all things AI, specifically why we shouldn’t be afraid of AI taking over our careers (and the world). But let's face it, as time goes on technical jobs are bound to be replaced at some point by our ever-advancing technologies. And that’s the threat that my guest, Michael Kammes, and I are here to talk about today. Michael is the Senior Director of Innovation at Shift Media with over 20 years of post-production experience and extensive knowledge on trends, products, production workflows and post technology.

In our conversation, Michael and I talk about the speed at which our current AI has been changing the world - and why that really means. We talk about the actual existential threats AI brings to us and what kinds of jobs AI could potentially replace in the foreseeable future. But don’t worry, it’s not all doom and gloom! As we dig deeper into the topic, we also shed light on what it takes to not only be irreplaceable in this age of AI, but how to thrive in it.

As Michael put it, AI is not going away and we cannot fight this fact (or it). Whether you’re feeling as if your career is threatened by AI, or you are excited about the potential career advancement it can assist you with, you’re going to love this conversation as much as I did. Michael’s advice is not only helpful to people in the entertainment world, but to anyone across any industry.

While I fully understand the reasoning behind feeling threatened by the rapid rise of AI in our society, I also believe that we can use this tool to our advantage and advance our careers by embracing it. And that’s exactly what my guest, Srinivas Rao, and I geek out on today. Srinivas is the host and founder of The Unmistakable Creative podcast where he has interviewed more than 1,300 people, from bank robbers to billionaires, including myself (I definitely fall somewhere in the middle of that spectrum).

In our conversation, Srinivas and I go deep into the rabbit hole of all things AI, discussing and demonstrating all of the work it is capable of. We examine the specific reasons AI couldn’t actually replace humans and more importantly, how we can use AI as leverage to further advance our careers. Srinivas believes that AI is the greatest equalizer since the industrial revolution and shares many of his own personal experiences utilizing it.

Whether you’re fully onboard with AI and excited to use this tool to further develop your career, or you’re fully against AI and afraid of the careers it could replace, I highly recommend listening to our conversation. My guest today is William Zabka who is best known for his portrayal of Johnny Lawrence both in Cobra Kai and the Karate Kid movies. While Johnny is the quintessential 80's bully, William is the complete polar opposite of that character. The bully you love to hate is actually a passionate filmmaker and dedicated family man who has overcome the challenges and obstacles of the wildly fickle entertainment industry.

We discuss his commitment to sticking to his values and what he did during the seemingly big gap in his career from Karate Kid to more than 30 years later resurfacing in Cobra Kai. He talks openly about the tough decisions to turn down jobs that weren’t a good fit while struggling with feelings of doubt.

Throughout our conversation, William shares his first hand experiences on some of the principles I teach in the Optimizer Coaching and Mentorship program like shifting your mindset to work in your favor, staying authentic to your values, facing your fears head on. And having said that, I hope this conversation will leave you inspired to pursue your biggest dreams.
