DVR and Keith discuss the three-team battle for the NL East, Austin Riley's growth as a hitter, signs of growth from Touki Toussaint, the possibility that the Mets are the NL East's best team on paper -- even without Jacob deGrom -- whether the Red Sox deserve the criticism they have received for their Trade Deadline approach, the Jays' quiet rise in the AL East, and the Brewers as a legitimate World Series threat.

Baseball Barista | August Power Rankings, Field of Dreams Game & Favorite Baseball Movies Aug 12, 2021
    Show notes

The Baseball Barista with Hunter Pence & Grant Brisbee have a fresh cup on baseball takes. The guys give their August Power Rankings, the Field of Dreams game and their favorite baseball movies. They both agree that the Giants & Dodgers are the 2 top teams in the MLB rankings right now. Both teams have very similar approaches at the plate and on the mound. There is some debate after that for the rest of the top 5 rankings. The guys talk about the Field of Dream's game with the Chicago White Sox taking on the Yankees. They talk about how the movie makes them think of being a kid and watching baseball. They talk about some of their other favorite baseball movies and what would be a baseball movie they would make now if they could.

Starkville | Minor League living conditions and an interview with Alan Schwarz on a Stark-less episode of Starkville Aug 10, 2021
    Show notes

Doug Glanville and Alan Schwarz met and became friends as students at the University of Pennsylvania. From there Doug went on to a Major League Baseball career and Alan went on to become a Pulitzer Price-nominated author, but their careers have overlapped time and time again and they both owe much of their success to each other. They discuss those paths as well as the problems with the game today including the conditions that minor leaguers face while chasing their dreams.

Doug then relates a story from his life to the recent incident at Coors Field where it was initially thought that a fan used a racial slur. All that plus listener trivia.

    Show notes

The Baseball Barista with Hunter Pence & Grant Brisbee have a fresh cup of baseball takes waiting for you to enjoy. The guys break down the winners & losers of the Trade Deadline and how Hunter believe great bullpens are key to long playoff runs. The Dodgers made the biggest splash at the Deadline and are putting together a super team with all the talent they have. Hunter talks about why a strong deep bullpen is so key to make a long playoff run and win a World Series. The Yankees add some beef to their lineup and they guys talk about where they think they will finish in the standings. They break down the top teams in the AL & NL and who would they take to make the Playoffs after the Trade Deadline. And Hunter give a special shoutout to Joey Votto.

Ken's Mailbag | Why was this trade deadline one of the wildest ever? Aug 02, 2021
    Show notes

The trade deadline has passed but plenty of questions remain. Ken and Tim try to explain why this deadline was so wild and then it's onto the mailbag...

-How long will Rockies fans have to wait for a contender after choosing not to be big sellers?

-Does the deadline favor big market teams?

-Why would anyone make a deal with Farhan Zaidi after he's won so many trades?

-Did the Giants get it right acquiring Kris Bryant?

-Now what for all the teams who aren't contending over the next two months?

-Was the acquisitions of Lester and Happ a waste for Cardinals?

-If the A's move to Las Vegas, will they start spending money?
