Ep. #131 - What If An Alien Sphere Landed In Your Yard? - The Betz Sphere May 15, 2019
    Show notes

We're going back to Florida nerds, and it's gonna get dicey again. Don't say we didn't warn you. It's 1974, and while exploring their 88-acre property, the Betz family found an 8 inch wide, 22-pound shiny steel sphere, with no marking except for an isosceles triangle stamped in the side. But things get stranger from there. The sphere began to move, of its own accord. It hummed. It played organ music. It jumped like a Mexican jumping bean. The Navy gets involved. The government gets involved. The whole world's newspapers got involved. So we're gonna dive in deep and talk about what in the bork is going on here. Strap in folks. It's The What If? Podcast.

Ep. #130 - What If You Built A Coral Castle? - American Stonehenge, Ed Leedskalnin May 08, 2019
    Show notes

In the early 1900's a Latvian immigrant built what's since been referred to as the eighth wonder of the world. A limestone castle in south Florida made of 1,100 tons of stone pillars, some as large as 30 tons apiece, that he quarried, carried, and set himself. Over the past roughly 100 years, many questions have been asked. How in the heck did he take on and execute such a massive feat by himself? One that has yet to be explained or recreated ever since? We dive in and explore the possibilities on this week's episode of The What If? Podcast.

Ep. #129 - What If An Alien Hybrid War Happened Underground? - Dulce Base May 01, 2019
    Show notes

Today, we tackle a true legend of the alien conspiracy theory world. In the New Mexico desert, not far from Roswell, a town called Dulce has stories that transcend all avenues of the paranormal world. From lights, to UFOs, to military presence, to cattle mutilations and more, the rumors abound. Rumors, of a base in the mountains where alien hybrid humans work together testing and reverse engineering alien technology.
And the stories that begin the rumors are even stranger. Tales of underground wars, Dulce Base employees passing photographs of caged test subjects, sketched schematics of the base design, and more. What's happened in the town of Dulce? Why do their residents claim to see UFOs in the sky over their town? What's actually happening to make these stories grow and grow over time? We dive in this week, on The What If? Podcast.

Ep. #128 - What If A Cryptid Poltergeist Haunted You? (Gef the Talking Mongoose) Apr 24, 2019
    Show notes

Today features one of the wildest stories we may have ever told here on The What If? Podcast, along with one of our favorite friends of the show, and oft request guest, Lydia Liza. The Irving family, of the Isle of Man, received international press after tales of a strange invader of their home made waves throughout the British Isles. They told of a ghostly animal inhabitant, by the name of Gef. Gef the Talking Mongoose. Yep. You read that right.
With intricate and elaborate stories, the Irving family told of the language, behaviors, stories, songs, and words that this talking animal exhibited, and of his efforts to befriend, protect, threaten, and ultimately confuse the family. What happened in 1931 to the Irving family? Were they truly visited by a talking mongoose? Is this a group delusion, created by an isolated and struggling family? Is this talking mongoose none other than a ghost or poltergeist haunting an old stone home in the wilderness? Find out this week, on The What If? Podcast.

Ep. #127 - What If You Didn't Sleep? (Deprivation, Insomnia, Randy Gardener) Apr 17, 2019
    Show notes

We're all a little tired. Studies say most folks (at least in the US) are chronically underslept. The interesting piece arrives in the space between tired and truly sleep deprived. The world of sleep loss is a big one, and hallucinations, wild thoughts, and intrigue creep in when the eyelids stay open.
This week, we talk about insomnia, sleep deprivation in doses big and small, and the case of Randy Gardener who set one of the world records for most time spent awake consecutively - and what happened to him in the process of simply staying awake for far too long.

Ep. #126 - What If The Flatwoods Monster Spooked You? (Braxton County Monster, Summer of Saucers) Apr 12, 2019
    Show notes

In 1952, at the end of the Summer of Saucers, a group of young boys in the West Virginia foothills saw a glowing light blink through the sky and land in the hills. Upon gathering more friends and their mother to join them, they hunted for what seemed to have crashed near them, only to be scared half to death by what we now know as The Flatwoods Monster. A 10-foot tall being with glowing eyes, mechanical arms, and a spade-shaped hood.
What did the group see in the dark woods that evening? What, if anything, crash-landed in the Appalachian foothills that night? What was happening in 1952 that made for a true Summer of Saucers? What if you got spooked by an owl with your friends on a West Virginia summer night? Find out this week on The What If? Podcast.

Ep. #125 - What If You Saw UFO Lights In Lubbock? (Lubbock Lights, Project Blue Book) Apr 03, 2019
    Show notes

In Lubbock, Texas, in 1951, one of the most famous UFO cases in the history of The United States occurred. Hundreds of residents of the city reported seeing lights flying over the city, low and silent, in strange formations, at speeds as slow as 600 MPH, but possibly as fast as 1,800 MPH. From PhD level professors at Texas Tech to Q-level security clearance workers in New Mexico, people across the state report seeing one of the strangest and most recurring UFO sightings on record.

This week, on The What If? Podcast, we dive into our second episode of Project Blue Book related material, and talk about one of the most documented and fascinating stories in the UFO canon. What flew over Lubbock, Texas those summer nights? What did Carl Hart catch on his 35MM camera? Are they true UFO photos? Are these visitors from another planet? Secretive Air Force missions? We'll never know. But we'll try to find out. On this week's episode of The What If? Podcast.

Hot Topics (are back!): Ghost Beer, Ecto Cooler, Hidden Pee Breaks, Strawberry Juice, Backyard Nerds, How Fast Do Planes Fly?, and a whole lot more.

Ep. #124 - What If You Chased A UFO? (Project Blue Book, Gorman Dogfight) Mar 27, 2019
    Show notes

In 1948, one of the most famous UFO incidents in the history of the United States occurred, seeming to have spawned a slew of added sightings, and garnering national attention. Over the night skies of North Dakota, a WWII veteran and National Guard member engaged in a nearly 30 minute dogfight with an unidentifiable, seemingly intelligent, light in the sky. One that defied every known law of physics both then and even today, getting as close to the Air Force craft as 500 feet.

What did George Gorman actually see, and dogfight with, that night in October? Who were the five, credible, civilian and military witnesses to the event? What would the US Air Force have to say about it? How much can everything strange in the sky be a weather balloon? And how badly would a cable network botch the dramatization of the event over 50 years later? Listen in to find out, this week on The What If? Podcast.

Ep. #123 - What If You Survived? (Ricky Megee) Mar 20, 2019
    Show notes

In 2006, an Australian man named Ricky Megee travelled into the Outback, and through a series of unfortunate, and somewhat disputed, events—disappeared. What happened next is detailed in his book, Left For Dead, wherein Megee tells the story of how he survived in the Australian Outback, for an unbelievable 71 days, with nothing but the clothes on his back.
This week on The What If? Podcast, we dive into a tale of disappearance, recovery and the resilience of the human spirit. We (Ryan) also put on bad Australian accents, make jokes about canned liquor, and Crocodile Dundee, and make a request of you, our lovely and faithful listeners. Enjoy the ride!

What happens there? Why do so many boats and planes go down? Why do they sometimes disappear completely, never to be found or seen again?
On this week's episode, we dive into the ocean, AND THE MYSTERY.
