37: Episode 97 - 2019 Bills Season Wrap Up
Jan 10, 2020
Show notes
With the 2019 season being over for nearly a week, podcast hosts Matt and Jeremy have had some time to properly reflect on this 2019 season. While the way that it ended was not ideal, and pretty upsetting, it was a good year from an overall perspective. Despite all of the criticism about strength of schedule, a young roster with growing pains, and a lot of "coulda, woulda, shoulda" moments, Bills fans should look back fondly on the 2019. With a solid coaching staff, whose instilled motto of "Trust the Process" has made considerable gains, and a General Manager who has flipped this roster, nearly 100% from before his reign, all signs point to up. Josh Allen progressed relatively well in 2019, giving more fuel to the Allen apologists. He showed incredible growth, while still making some rookie mistakes, but importantly, has played well enough to leave no questions if he should continue to be a starter going into the 2020-21 season. The fortunate aspect for this off season is that Beane and McDermott know have a smaller amount of spokes to replace on the wheel that is the Buffalo Bills, and are able to hone in on the most important needs before free agency and trades open up in a few months.

36: Episode 96 - Bills implode against Texans

In a game that had all of the excitement, drama, moments and controversy, the Buffalo Bills 2019 campaign has ended. It was an incredibly disappointing ending as well, as the Bills had a 16-point lead in the middle of the third quarter. Complacency cost the Bills their first post-season win in this millennium. Buffalo looked explosive, and dynamic on offense for the first time this year, on the opening drive, wasting little time to make it into the end-zone with a mix of trickery and balanced play calling. It seemed to truly peak there however. While the Bills did manage to get some points on the board after that, it became the proto-typical Bills offense, and that is something that must change if the team is to make leaps and progress. Devin Singletary shined though in this game, and was utilized incredibly well in the first four quarters. His pass-catching ability is lucrative to the future of this team, as we see top-tier offenses strongly utilize those dual-threat running backs. His future is exciting and one that has a high upside. I'll be the first to admit that I am not a "die-hard" Bills fan, though I'm fortunate enough to be able to podcast to one of the most passionate fan bases in the NFL, let alone the world. Today, it may not feel like it, and maybe not even tomorrow, or next week, or next month, but this team has a bright future. This is not me saying the classic "next year" line that this fan base has heard for two decades, but this team has a bright future. With young, affordable center pieces to the team, a culture first head coach and a General Manager with a good sense of direction, I expect the Bills to continue to be effective heading into the 2020 season.

35: Episode 95 - Bills fail to defeat the Patriots, all eyes on Wild Card Weekend
Dec 23, 2019
Show notes
The Bills couldn't get the job done against New England. Poor execution on the offensive side, with an inability to extend drives, led to exhaustion and sloppy play on the defensive side of the ball. The Patriots experienced one of their better games of this back half of the season against Buffalo on both sides of the ball. For the Bills, it's not the end of the world, fortunately. While the idea that they were in the race for a home playoff game in Week 16 was enticing, they're still in the post season, and they still have a shot. The only ways that Buffalo would see the Patriots again is one of two ways. First, both the Bills and whoever is the sixth seed win. Lowest remaining seed goes on to face Baltimore, and Buffalo would end up facing New England in the divisional round. Secondly, if both Buffalo or New England win out, and they meet in the AFC Championship. That all sounds good and well, but one game at a time has to be the mentality, and right now, despite a meaningless Week 17 game against the Jets, Buffalo is slated to face either Houston or Kansas City come Wild Card Weekend.

34: Episode 94 - Bills earn playoff berth, can they still win AFC East?
Dec 16, 2019
Show notes
In a defensive outing between both teams, the Buffalo Bills offense did just enough to put them over the edge of victory to send them back to the post season for the second time in three years. It was a testament to coaching, discipline, and a winning culture that Sean McDermott has established in Buffalo. The Bills sit at 10-4, are officially in, and could very easily loosen up a bit, but there is still another opportunity at stake, and that is to win the AFC East title for the first time in over 20 years. The chances are slim, but it is still a very reasonable feat, as they head to Foxborough to play the New England Patriots next Saturday. The Bills need to win out, and the Patriots need to lose not only to the Bills, but the Miami Dolphins in Week 17 as well. Buffalo and Pittsburgh brought their hard nosed defenses to the table last night for Sunday Night Football, and both teams excelled in stopping drives, forcing punts and turnovers, and keeping the game close for their offenses. It was the Bills, fortunately, that made it all happen, behind Josh Allen, John Brown, and even tight end Tyler Kroft. It was a great win for a team, in the national spotlight, that proved many doubters wrong in the process.
