    The Untold 98 Percent

We are talking to former athletes who are now going pro in something other than sports. We dive into what exactly that looks like. The transition from sports to the “real world” is a tough time on any athlete and successfully navigating it is even harder.

The goal is that this podcast provides some relatable stories for current athletes or just transitioning athletes to get ready for life after sports. We talk about coming to terms with our identity and pros/cons of being an athlete in the “real world” and the journey of finding the next passion in life.

Most athletes aren’t able to immediately move past being that “player” but once you’re able to use sports as a tool rather than an identity you have the chance to do something special.

He talks about the jobs that he was trying to get, and how he finally realized that it doesn't matter what everyone else wants him to do since he has to wake up every day and do it! Lastly, but most importantly, athletes know what it means to work hard and the reward from working hard.

Darcy Higa - Focus on What You Want to Do, Not What You Want to Make Nov 27, 2018
    Show notes

Darcy Higa sits down and talks about her sports career at CLU and then her transition to the real world after sports. Major takeaways were when Darcy started comparing to the hours that were spent practicing needed to be applied to your transition. That you need to put in the hours to figure out what you are interested in. My favorite piece of advice was that you need to focus on what you want to do, no what you want to make. Seems like a recipe to wake up excited every day!

Greg Ricker - Your Competitive Nature Nov 26, 2018
    Show notes

I sit down with former Whitman basketball player, Greg Ricker, and a hot topic turns into the competitors mindset. That even before basketball really began and if even after college basketball was over, this competitive hunger still existed. This competitive nature along with the experience of college athletics allows for you to be able to outwork your competition because you know what it takes to go further.

Mark Bouma - Pick People Up Nov 14, 2018

Mark is a former Whitman basketball player and now has a PT practice in Washington. Mark has been able to navigate the PT world to get to the level he is through hard work and passion for the space. He talks about constantly surrounding yourself with people that are more talented than you in different ways. My favorite carry over from sports to the real world is that we should constantly be picking people up to make people better.

James Hamilton - Play Like a Pro Nov 13, 2018
    Show notes

James was the first one that reminded me of the mindset that athletes have when they are playing college athletics. That you need to have that hunger and drive for something more, if that's pro or whatever it might be, you need it to be successful. James has a story that I feel many will be able to relate to as it showcases the power of family, athletics, and the journey of finding what's next.

Jenna Van Middlem - What Sets Your Soul On Fire Nov 12, 2018

I'm sitting down with former lacrosse player Jenna who is currently in year 2 of law school.
