    The Unschool by Andi Alleman

Brand + Culture for Founders and Creatives.

The Unschool is a podcast for founders and creatives who are done following inherited business rules—and ready to build brands people actually care about.

Hosted by Andi Alleman, founder of Oui, We Studio and Casa Noon Beauty, the show explores brand, culture, content, and decision-making through a mix of lived experience and practical thinking. Expect conversations that weave Human Design, creative strategy, and the real inner work of being visible, leading, and scaling, without contorting your life to fit the business.

Most episodes are solo—part analysis, part perspective shift and part masterclass, part pep talk —with occasional guest conversations featuring founders from Andi’s Cult Brand world, sharing what it looks like to grow a resonant, profitable brand on their own terms.

If you’re building something, evolving your identity as a founder, or questioning the way business is “supposed” to be done, you’ll feel at home here.

    New episodes bi-weekly.

Slow Down and Grow Down: Soulbriety & Life Lessons from Hollywood Agent Turned Recovery Doctor, Elisa Hallerman Mar 09, 2023
    Show notes

On her fifth anniversary of sobriety, Elisa Hallerman awoke with a hurting heart.

Despite her sobriety, her lifestyle as a top Hollywood talent agent representing the Hollywood elite, made her unwell. In this episode, Elisa shares her path to Soulbriety: a soul journey from being addicted to drugs and alcohol, suffering from PTSD and chronic trauma, to changing her career entirely. This conversation includes a discussion of substance abuse, eating disorders, and grief.

Elisa's book - SOULBRIETY: Heal Your Trauma, Overcome Addiction, and Reconnect with Your Soul is one of my favorites of the year. It's not just about getting sober; it's about soul-centered wellness, life lessons, and the practice of slowing down and growing down in a way many of us have been yearning for.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • What trauma means, how to spot it, and what to do to begin to treat it
    • How Dr. Hallerman found something missing on the fifth anniversary of her sobriety, retiring from the entertainment industry, and going back to school for a doctorate
    • Feeling shame: for existing, for being a woman who dares to sit in rooms with men, and for having a brain and ambition
    • The "work mask" and protective shield Dr. Hallerman wore as she navigated her Hollywood experience and how we can each begin to break through our maks and become our authentic selves
    • The Vince Vaugh breakup and how that experience became one of the best things that ever happened to Dr. Hallerman
    • Why disease is part of the family unit - and how disordered behavior and addiction is often bringing awareness to something that's been bubbling under the surface of the family system
    • Why having breakdowns within the family unit, setting boundaries, and eventually re-establishing relationships can be the best emotional path forward
    • Depth Psychology, soul as a meaning-making machine + the 12 steps we go through
    • "Growing down" into who we truly are
    • The Soulbriety method, pausing in the darkness, applying a different way of knowing, and allowing our pain to be alchemized into purpose
    • Soul vs. Spirituality: the difference and why it's important to work with both

    Show notes

After spending a week at a retreat and conference for creatives in Sweden, I feel especially called to talk about overcoming imposter syndrome.

We are often more equipped and capable than we give ourselves credit for, and sometimes the practice of 'faking it until you make it' helps our confidence. In this episode, we're discussing eight things to stop apologizing for to kick-start your confidence and self-worth and overcome imposter syndrome.

In the episode, hear about how learning to stop apologizing can actually help give you a confidence boost.

Eight things to stop apologizing for to overcome imposter syndrome
    • Investing in yourself and your financial goals
    • Changing and outgrowing people and places
    • Resting and giving yourself unproductive time
    • Being messy

    • Being soft
    • Asking for help when you need it

Filters Are Changing How We See Ourselves and Killing Our Confidence. So What Can We Do About It? Feb 16, 2023
    Show notes

Staring at own faces, day in and day out: what exactly is it doing to our self-image?

High exposure to perfectly symmetrical faces, with lush lashes, full, pouty lips, and Bella Hadid level cheekbones - has been proven time and time again to have a large impact on our self-esteem. Photoshop, editing apps, and filters are literally tricking our subconscious mind into believing this level of flawless beauty exists.

Unrealistic, unattainable images surround us. Our society encourages us to embrace digitally altered, flawless facades. What can we do about it?

In this episode, I'm sharing my thoughts on the photoshop and filtering dilemma, zoom face - how it affects our minds, how we inevitably talk to ourselves, and how that can be especially damaging for our mental well-being and ability to design an optimal future.

6 Things To Do More Of To Activate Your Manifestations + 4 Ways To Upgrade Your Lifestyle In '23 Dec 08, 2022

    About this episode:

In 2019 I was achieving goals I'd set a few years before. I was traveling and getting paid to do it, had just published a book with a major publishing house, had moved in with my bf (now husband), and had the best friends anyone could ask for.

    Things felt bright.

And then '20 forced me (like so many of us!) to make some significant life pivots — and on the other side, I realized, helllooooo! I'd actually been setting my goals too low. I was focusing only on what I could see right in front of me, on what I believed was possible in my current realm.

This is not a bad thing, btw! Life is a constant process of evolution and celebration. When we notice a goal we've previously set feels too small, that's an indicator it's time to level up our lifestyle.

We can do this by redirecting our focus, reconsidering our dreams, and restructuring how we spend our time. Today, I regularly set wildly ambitious goals, and I'm moving closer to them every day with less hustle and more flow.

In this episode, I'm sharing 6 things to do more of to activate your manifestations for the year ahead plus 4 ways to upgrade your lifestyle In '23! Read more on the podcast blog.
