    The Unapologetic Executive

Welcome to The Unapologetic Executive (formerly known as Freeda’s World), the podcast for ambitious Black women who are redefining what success, wellness, and leadership look like, on their own terms.

Hosted by Ritha Pierre, Esq., attorney, strategist, and founder of The Unapologetic Executive, this space invites you to pause, reflect, and lead with intention.

Each episode explores the realities of professional life for Black women, the unspoken pressures, the cultural context, and the courage it takes to prioritize peace in spaces that reward over-performance.

Through honest conversations and expert insights, we talk about everything from identity and self-trust to rest, boundaries, and purpose. These are not pep talks from the sidelines. They’re grounded discussions, equal parts compassion and clarity, designed to help you move from endurance to alignment.

    In this space, we believe:

Growth becomes sustainable when it’s rooted in truth.

Clarity becomes attainable when you slow down long enough to listen.

Success feels more meaningful when you stop performing strength and start practicing it.

So settle in with your favorite beverage, release the day, and join us as we explore what it means to lead without apology and live without depletion.

Because ambition should feel aligned, not exhausting.

Ep. 40: How To Be Present At Work While Dealing With Loss May 15, 2019
    Show notes

This week we are talking about loss. Many of of us have experienced loss at some point in our life. It is not easy and depending on who you lost, the impact on your life can be debilitating.

I lost my grandmother in 2013. she raised me as her own. She was my everything. I literally never conceived a life without her. So when I lost her, my world literally fell apart. I was broken and if I am being honest, I still am broken.

Over the years the grief of losing my grandmother, has really took a toll on all aspects of my life. Work included. So I began to think, how does one cope with death and still be present at work?

A few years ago I was scrolling through social media and I saw that a friend of mines from college had lost her mother. Come to find out, she had lost her father only a few years prior. Not too long after finding out about her mother, I found out that she lost her boyfriend. In my mind, I thought how is this woman able to function let alone go to work?

On this episode, I am joined by my friend Joi Britt, LCSW and host of The Joi of Social Work Podcast. Joi is going to share with us her story of life after loss. She will discuss some of the challenges she faced at work and how she was able to be present at work while dealing with her loss.

Ep. 39: Stop Thinking Like An Imposter May 08, 2019
    Show notes

This week I am joined by my good friend Jellisa Joseph. Jellisa was recently nominated for a prestigious award. She was so excited for the nomination. However, instead of basking in excitement, the first thought that came to her mind was "do I deserve this".

This form of self doubt is very common amongst professional women of color. We do it all the time! But why? Why do we have such an issue with accepting accolades and awards? Why can't our first inclination be, "wow I did it! I knew I could do it!"

Tune in as Jellisa and I have a very candid conversation about our experiences, the social oppression of women of color by not only "the man" but also by ourselves.

We don't have all the answers, but we explore different ways to not only slay self doubt, but to find ways where we as women of color can do a better job of recognizing and celebrating each other outside of our silos.

Ep. 37: The art of no Apr 24, 2019
    Show notes

FREEda Fam! This week I am talking about the art of no. Often times we do this thing where we say yes to everything. We say yes to more work, we say yes to our bosses, to our co-workers, our friends family, we never say no.

Some times you just have to say NO! Why? because you are not a machine. Saying yes all of the time has consequences. It can hinder your ability to complete your given tasks. It can cause you to burn out. It can make you sick.

With all of that being said, I know it is not the easiest thing to tell your supervisor or your client no. In fact it's scary. What I have discovered over the years is that, the issue is not in saying no. It's all about how you say no. Tune in as I talk about the different scenarios where saying no may be necessary and how you can deliver the message without losing your job.

Ep. 35: Working through disability ft. Dianne S. Esq. Apr 10, 2019
    Show notes

This week I am joined by my dear friend Dianne. Dianne and I met at Fordham University School of Law (Big shout our to Fordham!) in the Fall of 2008. We were placed in the same first year section and from that point on we became sisters. Imagine going through 3 years of law school, (a portion of which was spent enduring dialysis)and studying for the bar examination, only to be advised that you cannot work. Tune in as Dianne and I look back and discuss her journey with Lupus and her experiences working through disability. Many of us are legitimately ill, but we are neglecting to take care of ourselves out of fear that we will be singled out. If there is one thing you learn from hearing this episode today, it is to take care of yourself. When you die, your job will be posted the next day. There are ways to work while disabled. Take the time to educate yourself. ***FREEda's World is available everywhere you get your podcast! Please remember to subscribe, like, share and review!

Ep. 32: Stop networking and start connecting! Mar 20, 2019
    Show notes

Spring is literally in the air! And you know what that means. It's time for a metamorphosis. Many of us are wanting to burst out of our cocoons and become butterflies. We are ready for that change, but we feel so stuck. How can I begin to make a move? Where are the opportunities? Trust me, I am right there with you. But one thing I have learned is that we have to get out there and open ourselves up to opportunities. Networking is important, but connecting is key. Tune in as I discuss networking and how to make it work for you. ~~FREEda'a World podcast is powered by FREEda Women NYC, an accessories and apparels brand that uses fashion to help professional women of color reach their full potential and achieve desired results. Ep. 31: Single mothering while working Mar 13, 2019
    Show notes

This week we are talking to the single mothers! Being a single mom is hard ya'll. Sometimes I want to cry. Being a working single mother is even harder. It is an emotional roller coaster. How do you deal when the single mom struggle is too real, but you still have to report to work and be productive? I am still figuring this out, but I found a few things that are helping. Even if you are not a single mother, I think you will find the show to be somewhat entertaining and informative. For all my single mothers out there, keep your head up, keep fighting, keep mothering, but more importantly, take care of yourself! (again still trying to figure this part out) It's performance review season! *Cues weird danger music* Performance reviews can be the source of great anxiety. Even if you are a stellar employee, having to sit in a room with your manager, listening to them dissect your work performance can be a little uncomfortable. ~~FREEda'a World podcast is powered by FREEda Women NYC, an accessories and apparels brand that uses fashion to help professional women of color reach their full potential and achieve desired results.
