    Show notes

The new Premier League season is upon us and you can’t say fairer than Jimbo, James Horncastle, Charlie Eccleshare and Daniel Storey to preview it for you.

Are Liverpool motivated to right some wrongs and win the title? Are City worse than last season? Can Spurs insert themselves into the title race after a full pre-season under Conte?

4th place looks up for grabs. Is a meltdown imminent at Chelsea after a summer in which they might have gone backwards? Can Arsenal or even Man United capitalise?

At the other end, is it curtains for Everton or Brentford? Or will all 3 promoted clubs go straight back down?

Plus the best performance of the last 30 years, the best objects of the last 30 years and Jimbo’s Richard Keys revelation. And a quiz!

    Game-changing England and game-changing Nuñez Aug 01, 2022
    Show notes

Reacting to a historic day for English football, Jimbo is joined by Raphael Honigstein, Charlotte Harpur, Daniel Storey and Nick Miller.

England are European champions, defeating Germany at Wembley after extra-time. The Lionesses were grafting years before Sunday’s final. Can this be a landmark moment, not just in England but in Germany and around the world?

Less significantly, Liverpool claim the Community Shield beating title rivals Man City 3-1. Is Darwin Nuñez more vital to the Reds than Erling Haaland is to City? And might Pep regret letting Raheem Sterling go?

Elsewhere, Cristiano Ronaldo is never far away from the headlines as we debate where his next destination might be.

Plus the majesty of Musiala and the brilliance of Burnley.

    RUNNING ORDER:

    • PART 1: England win the Euros (01.30)

    • PART 2a: Liverpool win the Community Shield (26.00)

    • PART 2b: Bayern win the Super Cup & other Bundesliga goings on (36.00)

    • PART 3: Ronaldo on his way and the return of the EFL (45.00)

It’s England v Germany and the return of the EFL Jul 28, 2022
    Show notes

Jimbo welcomes Duncan Alexander, Tim Spiers and Matt Davies-Adams into the pod ahead of a bumper weekend of football action.

England look to make history as they face Germany at Wembley in the Euro 22 final. Can the Lionesses stop Popp? And should super-sub Russo start?

The Community Shield isn’t really exciting our panel, so we discuss some alternative curtain-raisers instead.

The return of the EFL is a lot more exciting as Kompany and Bellamy take charge at Turf Moor, Wilder looks to bring Boro up and Derby prepare for life in the third tier.

Plus Dybala, McNeil and our favourite back-heel goals.

    • PART 1a: Wolves’ adventures in Benidorm (02.00)

    • PART 1b: England v Germany preview (04.00)

    • PART 2c: McNeil on the move, so too Kounde (26.00)

    • PART 3: The big kick-off in the EFL (33.00)

    Show notes

The Lionesses are ready for the Euro semi with the Swedes, as are Jimbo, Flo Lloyd-Hughes, Daniel Storey and Tom Williams.

Frida Fagerlund joins us to give us the inside scoop on Swedish preparations, who might just fancy playing against a team that will attack them a bit. Can England end their semi-final hoodoo?

Daniel has his say on the great Jesse Lingard debate while we also ask whether it reflects badly on Leicester that they’re the only Premier League team yet to make a summer signing.

Should we draw too many conclusions from pre-season results? Like Arsenal finishing in the top 4 at the expense of Chelsea?

Plus Mourinho proposals, Lego and the Ben Mee character arc.

    RUNNING ORDER:

    • PART 1a: Locked in with heat and lego (01.00)

    • PART 1b: England v Sweden preview with Frida Fagerlund (05.00)

The Athletic’s Charlotte Harpur gives us the lowdown from Brighton as England come from behind against Spain and gut it out to reach the last 4 of Euro 2022. Can they break their semi-final hoodoo?

Unhappy Hammer Benji gets hot under the collar about Jesse Lingard and his potential move to Forest ahead of West Ham, as we also discuss who’s had the strongest transfer window so far.

Despite the vuvuzelas, the Jabulani and the dirtiest final of all time, we attempt to show some love to the 2010 World Cup.

And Carl and Marcus Rashford have another book out today. But does it have as good a title as Asamoah Gyan’s?

Born with that scream inside me Jul 18, 2022
    Show notes

Jimbo’s back and welcomes James Horncastle, Matt Davies-Adams and Sasha Goryunov into a baking hot pod.

Euro 2022 enters the quarter-final stage with England taking on Spain at the Amex on Wednesday. Are the Spanish too twee to pose the Lionesses any big problems?

In the transfer market, Chelsea bring in gentle giant and model pro Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. But do they risk losing more academy prospects in the process?

Laurie Whitwell joins us from Australia where Erik ten Hag’s Man United keep winning and they’ve just added leftie Lisandro Martinez. Is it time to start to taking United seriously again?

Barca secure the signing of Lewandowski. But is it a depressing state of affairs for European football as Barca mortgage their future?

We look back at Sasha’s favourite World Cup – Spain 82. The tournament of Northern Ireland, Brazil’s loss of innocence and Soviet Union’s 3 managers.

Oh No Zinedine Jul 14, 2022
    Show notes

Matt Davies-Adams welcomes Lynsey Hooper, Michael Cox and Tom Williams to the latest Totally Football Show.

Lynsey gives us an on the ground perspective of England’s form and thought processes after the demolition of Norway 8-0 on Monday night. Is this the high point or is the best yet to come for the Lionesses?

There’s also a look ahead to the rest of the week's Euro fixtures as the group stages draw to a close.

In Transfer Talk, we wonder why Wolves haven’t signed anyone beyond the most expensive Irish footballer ever (no not Robbie Keane) in Nathan Collins.

We also consider if thirty million pounds is too much for Morgan Gibbs-White, and whether Everton are making the same mistakes yet again in the transfer market.

On the 14th July in 2006 the punishments in the Calciopoli scandal were doled out, at exactly the same time as Italy were on the way to winning the World Cup!

We reflect on that tournament in Germany including compelling commentary, excellent ads and… yes we talk about the headbutt.

Plus we point you in the direction of The Athletic’s coverage of the Woman’s Africa Cup of Nations, because it’s excellent.

Brilliantly White Horses Jul 11, 2022
    Show notes

Jimbo welcomes Adam Hurrey, Adrian Clarke and Daniel Storey to a scorching summer Totally Football Show.

Daniel talks us through a tentative start to Euro 2022 for the Lionesses, plus there’s a look ahead to a finely poised group game against Norway.

The Athletic’s Paul Tenorio tells us about Wayne Rooney’s impending move to manage DC United plus what the expectations are for Gareth Bale at LAFC.

We talk about Jack Wilshere’s retirement from playing at just 30 and what a life in coaching holds for him.

And we look back at Adrian’s favourite World Cup – Mexico 86. The Azteca footballs, ornate pitch designs if not ornate surfaces and some terrible sartorial and singing decisions from Scotland and England.
