Are we imposing Christianity onto MIddle-earth? That's what one listener thinks...
“This show is Christian propaganda disguised as a discussion of Tolkien mythology. It’s fine to be Christian, obviously Tolkien was a Christian, but Christianity doesn’t exist in Arda. The mythology was not meant to be a metaphor for Christianity/the Bible - Tolkien had said that he dislikes such devices in story telling."
In this video, I respond to that misguided accusation, and reveal what Tolkien actually thought and wrote about this topic.

"It is precisely the colouring, the atmosphere, the unclassifiable individual details of a story, and above all the general purport that informs with life the undissected bones of the plot, that really count." - On Fairy-stories
Some have said that Amazon's planned compressions of the Second Age timeline is not a big deal. Well, I don't think Tolkien would have agreed. I explain why.
Furthermore, I explore one fan's proposal for how they could do the show.

"Yet this is held true by the wise of Eressëa, that all those of the Quendi who came into the hands of Melkor, ere Utumno was broken, were put there in prison, and by slow arts of cruelty were corrupted and enslaved; and thus did Melkor breed the hideous race of the Orcs in envy and mockery of the Elves, of whom they were afterwards the bitterest foes. . . This it may be was the vilest deed of Melkor, and the most hateful to Ilúvatar." - Silmarillion Chapter 3

"I am a Christian, and indeed a Roman Catholic, so that I do not expect ‘history’ to be anything but a ‘long defeat’ – though it contains (and in a legend may contain more clearly and movingly) some samples or glimpses of final victory." - JRR Tolkien, Letter 195 (https://amzn.to/3sVZJCE)

In a previous video, which I've linked to in the notes below, I discussed what I hoped would be a path forward for the legendarium, guided by a Tolkien Estate which was unfailingly loyal JRR Tolkien's established work and vision.
Well, that was a few months ago, and I've been feeling far less optimistic as of late. In fact, I've realized that the Tolkienian idea of the long defeat may apply in all of this.
