306 - 5-Minute Mentoring: Using QR Codes In Your Art Business Dec 03, 2021

Show notes

Remember Blockbuster, Beanie Babies, Backstreet Boys? All popular with audiences in the late 90s to early 2000s, probably not coming back. In contrast, QR code marketing, once in decline, has become more popular than ever.

It seems like everywhere you look, QR codes (those little black-and-white square barcodes) are appearing on everything - tickets, restaurant menus, product packaging, and more. Since 2020, with the need for touch-free solutions, they're becoming a go-to staple for sales and marketing.

How can a simple scan of a square graphic help create a connection with your audience?

✔️ Send people to your website or social profiles
✔️ Share a video of your process
✔️ Provide details about your work
✔️ Track inventory of individual pieces
✔️ Sell from your online shopping cart

The possibilities are endless!

Using a QR code is a super-easy way to make technology work for you… even if you have no tech know-how. They can become a creative way to connect you with your audience.

If you're not already using QR codes, you're leaving lots of untapped potential for your art business. Because I'm not a fan of wasted opportunity, I'm sharing how QR codes are an asset you're going to want to adopt ASAP!

Speaking of untapped potential, are you struggling with how to price your art for sale? It’s one of the biggest questions students have coming into the Created to Thrive Artist Mentoring Program, so I created a handy guide that will make it a lot easier! 305 - Your Voice Matters Because You Matter: A Conversation with Gina Morgano Nov 30, 2021

Everyone likes to talk about “work-life balance,” but when your passion for creating, your business, your livelihood, and your faith overlap, striking that balance becomes even more challenging!
As I help artists connect artistic, business, and spiritual life together in a holistic way, the question comes up over and over: How do you blend that balance to express your unique voice as an artist? One of the best keys is to develop the discipline of repeated practices.
On today’s episode of the Thriving Christian Artist podcast, I’m talking with Gina Morgano. She expresses her unique voice, quite literally, as a vocalist and voice teacher, as well as host of The Practice Parlour podcast, and creator of The Practice Planner.
She's an inspiration for ways to include practices that shape the life, work, and faith of a Christian artist. She also shares how God can use your creative career to open doors for relationships where introductions with religious labels never could.
Keep up with Gina Morgano on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/ginamorgano/ or on her website at https://www.ginamorgano.com/

304 - 5-Minute Mentoring: The Promise of Sin Nov 19, 2021

When I was a kid, I remember my parents warning me that if I hung around with the “bad kids,” I’d be painted with the same brush, and people would think I was a bad kid, too.

It wasn’t that they expected me to be a perfect angel - but they understood that as humans, we are susceptible to the influences around us, so controlling our environment was key to following God’s commandments and avoiding the temptation to sin.

Your environment will always overcome your willpower. If your desire is to stay warm, then you can layer on warm clothing or light a warm fire. BUT in the long run, your best bet to stay warm is moving out of the meat freezer.

The truth is, humans sin. It’s in our nature. Jesus was the only perfect being to ever walk the earth, and God doesn’t expect that of us - but He does expect us to do our best. We can’t control what others do, but we can control our exposure to those people.

Sin always sells the promise of comfort - but it's never able to deliver. Overcoming the false promise of sin may just be a matter of changing your environment.

In this episode, I'm revealing my take on the only spiritual environment that beats your willpower to defeat sin...every. single. time.

Just as God wants us to take an active role in removing temptation and sin from our lives, He wants to be an active part of your artistic endeavors! 303 - Releasing Heaven's Creativity: A Conversation with Latimer Bowen Nov 16, 2021

Show notes

Send us Fan Mail

I'm fascinated by God's “glory stories"—amazing testimonies of the grace and goodness of God. Artists who step out in faith and invite the Holy Spirit into their creativity are full of those stories.
God's original glory story begins with creativity. In the beginning God created. Mankind was made in the image of our Creator; every single one of us is called to create.
It's our collective calling… even when we're unaware of our creativity… even if we attempt to bury our creativity out of reach.
Our guest Latimer Bowen thought she'd put away her creativity for good. For forty years, she protected herself from producing any art. Finally, in 2009, she said yes to creating an image with God…and the results are nothing short of miraculous.
Since then, God has empowered her creativity in equipping others to go into all the world to preach the gospel. Today Latimer leads a prophetic art enterprise called Project 7 Billion with a mandate to reach the nations with anointed art evangelism.
In this episode, we'll witness a few of the “glory stories” that are only possible when we are obedient to the call to create with the Holy Spirit.
Make sure to connect with Latimer Bowen through her website at https://project7billion.org or her Facebook page at https://facebook.com/project 7billion!

Does your destination seem like it’s a thousand miles away?
Are you ready to ditch the overwhelm and step into the grace God has for you in this journey?
Then you need to listen to this episode of the Thriving Christian Artist podcast - so you can learn the secret.
My dear friend and mentor Billie Ruth Sudduth recently passed away after 30 years as a distinguished basketry artist. She had an incredible career, leaving such a lasting impact on the art world.
A few years back, I asked Billie Ruth how she had done it. What was her secret?
Billie Ruth shared with me the secret to walking that proverbial thousand-mile journey… and I'm sharing it with you today.
After you've listened, if you’d like to learn more about how you can thrive as an artist in the Kingdom, I invite you to check out a new resource I’ve created, “The 3 Biggest Misconceptions to Thriving as a Christian Artist.” Click below and I’ll send it straight to your inbox!

301 - The Simplicity of Saying Yes: A Conversation with Charles Ciepiel Nov 09, 2021

Show notes

Send us Fan Mail

Over the years, I’ve noticed an interesting trend in the artists in the Thriving Christian Artist community. They discover how to trust the Lord and invite Him into their art… but they see creating a successful business as super-heroic - something out of their reach.
But really...isn't a “superhero” just an ordinary person who's been drawn into an extraordinary situation?
From the outside, God-inspired entrepreneurs and business owners can look as if they're living out amazing superhero stories. But in reality, they're people just like you and me— people who, when called by God, simply said, “Yes.”
Today's episode is like listening in on a real-life superhero origin story.
My guest, Charles Ciepiel, is a long-time friend and newly inspired entrepreneur who simply said yes…and the rest is an amazing story.
His story is an incredible example of the joy and breakthrough, as well as the timing and favor, that comes with wild abandon to saying YES to the Lord.
Be sure to listen in on this episode, then follow Charles Ciepiel's entrepreneur journey at http://charliejoechai.com.
And if you’re struggling to grow your art business, I hope you’ll check out my newest free resource, which discusses the biggest mistakes I see artists making when pricing their art - because I made them, too!

300 - 5-Minute Mentoring: What to Do When Nothing Is Working Nov 05, 2021

Show notes

Have you ever felt like your career - or your life - is taking one step forward...and two steps back?
Like you’re pushing a giant boulder up a mountain and making little progress? Like you’re doing all you know to do, but nothing you do seems to move you any further ahead?
It’s frustrating, confusing...and can make you want to throw up your hands and quit!
My friend, I have been there more than once...so you are not alone! We all go through seasons when things just don’t seem to be going our way, no matter how hard we try.
But the key word there is “season.” Experiencing a season like this doesn't mean it's time to give up your calling as an artist. It means it’s time for a shift.
In this episode of 5-Minute Mentoring, I'm giving you some real advice for what you can do when things just aren't working. Some suggestions are spiritual. Some are practical. All of them will serve as life preservers to help you navigate those times in your life when the seas are rough.
Remember...God sees the bigger picture. He wants you to thrive. He created you to thrive!

299 - Defying Discord: A Conversation with Marlita Hill Nov 02, 2021

Show notes

If you’ve ever tried to pitch a tent, you know that tension and stretch is the difference between a tent that offers you protection from the elements...and just a pile of nylon and poles. The Bible talks about enlarging the place of your tent, which requires that same tension in order to be successful.
As an artist of faith, are you holding in tension both the dream and the hard work it takes to grow in what God has given you?
This episode is one of the most thought-provoking conversations I've had on how faithful artists are meant to walk out their faith in the arts.
Our guest, Marlita Hill, is a choreographer, artist, and author who influences and inspires Christian creatives through her Kingdom Artist Initiative.
She's been serving the Lord, living in the faith and art world for many years, and she shares her experience to help fellow artists build a healthy working relationship between their faith and art career.
Discover more about Marlita and her new book, Defying Discord, and all the wonderful things she’s doing with the Kingdom Artist Initiative at http://marlitahill.com/.

298 - 5-Minute Mentoring: Raising Your Awareness of God's Presence. Oct 29, 2021

Show notes

Send us Fan Mail

There’s a holiday trend I’ve noticed recently where parents are encouraging potential gift-givers to consider giving their kids experiences like trips to the zoo, an afternoon movie outing, summer camp tuition, etc., rather than toys.
As a parent who remembers all too well being surrounded by piles of “stuff” around the Christmas tree, I really appreciate this trend towards giving the gift of time and memories.
The toys will break. The clothes will be outgrown. The games will lay forgotten.
But the stories and memories will live on forever.
It’s true about art, too.
The prophetic art we're now creating with God will eventually fade away...but the experience won’t.
If we become very aware of creating with our Father, we can treasure that family experience forever.
In this episode, we're talking about how to raise our awareness of the Holy Spirit's presence in the creative process. Awareness invites His transformation to flow to and through you, whatever you're creating with Him.

It’s probably obvious that I’m passionate about both creating art and the process behind it. I'm also just as passionate about helping fellow artists experience breakthrough and transformation in their creativity.

As Christian artists, we know the Word says that transformation comes through the renewing of our mind.

Well, I've come to learn how God uses the beautiful operating system that He put inside us to bring transformation—the renewing of our mind through a powerful process called neuroplasticity.

That's why I'm thrilled to introduce you to today’s guest, Dorothy J. Cook. She's sharing creative brain hacks that will help you use your imagination in effective ways to align your heart and mind with the Word of God.

This episode is power-packed with fantastic tools, tips, and tricks you'll want to practice and even share with others!

Learn more about Dorothy and even grab her free Brain Hacks 101 guide on her website at http://dorothyjcook.com
