Midnight Poppy Land 66: Pew Pew (with Patty) Jul 10, 2021

Show notes

Quincey and Tora discuss shady Gil in the car, and *we* discuss Quincey and Tora's complicated dynamic and how Quincey is a walking contradiction between his personality and upbringing.

Back at the office, Poppy is having difficulty focusing, not at all because of Fishy Gil popping up and totally ignoring her work while praising and connecting with the other employees.

Poppy has the beginnings of a panic attack, finally absorbing all the events that have happened to her in the last day and even month. To top it all off, she receives a worrying text from Julri/not Julri. Bad news either way.

We end with another vignette of how Gil's life is spiraling apart.

Recorded in Lisbon, Portugal, and Madrid, Spain.

Purple Hyacinth 32: Lonely Lullaby (with Firedancer, Fwoot, and Hadzy) Jul 08, 2021

Show notes

Kym rushes off, and Hermann makes Lauren give her deposition. We discuss Hermann’s reaction and character and hint: he’s not so bad. We also have a Hermann theory by our theory master, Fwoot.

Meanwhile, Will chases after Kym, who is in a world of her own and cannot hear him. Kym gazes at a music box in a shop window and Will and Kym converse about superheroes dying. We discuss Kym's reckoning with her mortality and use of the phrase "their clock stops sometime."

Later, Lauren and Kieran are walking on a bridge and discussing Harvey's death. Lauren is furious, and Kieran takes her fury to heart, pointing out sadly that he could have been the one to kill Harvey. We discuss Lauren's black and white thinking as well as her hypocrisy.

The episode ends with a plan to investigate Flemmings and a fantastic outfit.

Show notes

After a verrrrrrrry long hiatus, we return right back to Charles' bedroom, and flashback to Sam’s proposition. Sam is waking, and remembering the events of last night, where Charles refused and then comforted her in her distress.

Turns out… it wasn’t a dream! This realization pushes her over the edge, literally, but Charles is there to protect her head, and they end up on the floor, where a very gentle Charles offers to pick up where they left off.

Purple Hyacinth 100: Tight Timing (with Fwoot and Solis) Jul 06, 2021

Show notes

Kym is about to to unmask Lauren with trembling hands, when the Phantom Scythe disrupts their plans. Will and Kieran are tussling, and Kieran escapes. However, when Will is about to get shot by the PS, Kieran kicks him out of the way, saving his life.

They duck behind some cartons, whereupon Will makes a valiant effort at reason. Kieran attacks them from above with incredibly impressive non-lethal dagger throws and ninja kicks, and narrowly misses being shot in the face.

Will is in danger of being shot again, and this time it is Lauren's kick which saves him. She notices that Kieran looks worse, and we wonder how long he is going to last.

The APD finally arrives and surrounds the building, but at that moment, Soleil is also surrounded by a group headed by an incredibly handsome and totally relevant unnamed man (DILF/Ratface).

A hapless APD officer outside is sadly detonated by a bottle of nitroglycerine, while Lauren and Kieran are kicked to the floor.

We end the episode with two nerve-wrenching bangs and Lauren covered with blood. WHOSE? WHAT? WHERE? ARGGGGGHHH!

Purple Hyacinth 31: Sordid Surprise (with Fwoot and Krystine) Jul 05, 2021

Show notes

Will arrives early at the office, only to be surprised (and attacked) by an even earlier Kym, who has arrived to do her much dreaded paperwork.

Their third partner, Lauren, joins them, and this surprise catapults a coffee cup to Grumpy Cat's desk. They head to the janitor's closet for supplies to clean it up, whereupon Kym makes a gruesome discovery. She falls into Will's arms, and Lauren opens the door to see what it is they have seen: Harvey's mangled and bloodied body.

The APD guesses that this is Golden Viper poison. Kym seems to be blacking out, and leaves the office. Devoted Will runs after her.

Midnight Poppy Land 65: Fishy Gil (with Jen, Myrna, and Tina) Jul 03, 2021

Show notes

Quincy is getting it on when sadly, his discourse is interrupted by a very annoyed tiger. We flash back to the night before, when an equally annoyed tiger decides to vent his frustrations on a traffic cone, which unfortunately lands right near a group of thugs with rosy tattoos and the letters LR. Does it start a fight? Maybe.

The next day at the office, Erdene and Jacob are being the nosy gossips that they are and teasing Poppy about her drunken flirtation with Tora.

We then cut to Gil's office, where a very fishy (cough cough) conversation is going on between Gil and Quincy, who meet at last. They're all cheery cheery until they glance at each other while Gil hesitates to sign, and then we see a very ominous Quincy indeed. Well, call me a blanket cuz I wanna sit in your lap! 🥵

A very nervous Gil reveals his inner monologue to us. He's anxious about Quincy and turns out he is MAD at Poppy for getting him a famous author! What's going on, Gil???

Poppy senses Gil's eyes on her and tries to get the figures to tabulate correctly. Hm, I wonder why they aren't?

Paranoid Gil gazes outside and closes his shades, overlooking Tora and Quincy sitting in the car, wondering what to do next. How much do they know?

Purple Hyacinth 99: Imploring Intuition (with Fwoot and Inspirashamul) Jun 29, 2021

Show notes

We begin the episode by discussing pacing issues and the repetitious nature of the last few chapter endings.

Lune, once again, manages to escape from Soleil, who give chase. Lauren and Keiran unwisely split up, and Kym pursues Lauren.

Kym uses Lauren's own parkour skills against her, and is frustrated when Lauren refuses to fight back.

Their rather heartbreaking tussle ends with Kym straddling Lauren and her hand reaching to pull Lauren's mask off.

We complete the episode with predictions for the next episode.

Midnight Poppy Land 64: Drunk Asshoe (with Inga and Patty) Jun 26, 2021

Show notes

Tora mindlessly shares some mob life info with Poppy, only to curse his carelessness shortly when he sees its impact on Poppy, who is suspiciously fiddling with her phone. As usual, Tora solves his problems by making jokes, including one that mortifies Poppy so much that she literally skedaddles out of there.

Tora runs out to find her, concerned, but can't. He calls Poppy who is in the cab, reminiscing about last night's conversation.

We get to see what Poppy and Tora talked about going home from the club, and it is HILARIOUS. Just as Poppy says, she is indeed an asshoe when he is drunk!!

We end the night with Tora sleeping over at Quincy's house, huddled on the floor and ruminating over their conversation, when we suddenly hear a mysterious THUMP!

Purple Hyacinth 30: Sanguinary Snake (with Fwoot and Krystine) Jun 25, 2021

Show notes

Our freckle-faced Harvey goes back to the APD to do some extra work. Unfortunately for Harvey, he is being followed by an ominous black shadow with red glaring eyes.

At the cave, Kieran and Lauren discuss visiting The Lonely Traveller's Inn. Lauren apologizes for pushing about the flowers, and Lauren and Kieran exchange one of their rare genuine smiles.

Back at the APD office, Harvey makes his way to the archive room, growing suspicious of someone following him, whereupon his suspicions are confirmed and he is dispatched most gruesomely by a viper-headed snake.
