The Social Contract with Joe Walsh

America, we gotta get back to doing what’s expected of us as free citizens in this democracy. That means being tolerant, being respectful, staying informed, and being engaged. I’m former Congressman Joe Walsh. Follow me here and join the millions of Americans who are renewing their social contract with each other. The social contract. It’s on us.

What Happened To America These Past 50yrs? A Conversation May 15, 2026
    Show notes

52yrs ago, Richard Nixon was forced out of office for what today seems like petty crimes. Donald Trump tried to overthrow an American election and was put back in power. What happened to us? I sat down with former venture capitalist, current education, innovation & civil society advocate Ted Dintersmith to answer that question.

No Politician Has Ever Been Held To The Pathetically Low Standard Trump Is Held To. Not Even Close May 14, 2026
    Show notes

Two days ago, Trump said, word for word, he doesn’t think about Americans’ financial situation. And in the two days since, every Republican and so many in the media have bent into pretzels saying that he didn’t say what he said. Just pathetic.

A Libertarian And A Socialist Discuss Freedom May 13, 2026
    Show notes

My weekly sit down with my younger, pragmatic Socialist friend Xander Schultz, and me, the small L libertarian I am, we found ourselves discussing our two very different notions of “freedom.” We also found surprising common ground on an issue for all high school graduates in America.

Donald Trump Is A Sociopath. He Doesn’t Care About ANYONE But Himself May 12, 2026
    Show notes

Yes, Trump was up all night again last night rage tweeting for hours. Yes, he’s mad. Yes, he’s cognitively impaired. But here’s what doesn’t get talked about enough. He was rage tweeting about stuff that has nothing to do with the American people, nothing to do with what voters care about. Voters need to remember this.

Democrats, You Don’t Need To Be Just Like Republicans To Beat Republicans May 11, 2026
    Show notes

I wrote a piece last week making clear there was no tent big enough for me and Graham Platner, Democratic candidate for the Senate from Maine. And I oppose Platner, not just because of his Nazi tattoo, but also because he’s inauthentic. He’s dishonest. And I’ve been screaming for a year now that Dems need candidates who are authentic.

The Supreme Court Just Gutted Voting Rights — And Democrats Still Don't Get It May 08, 2026
    Show notes

The Supreme Court just handed down a Voting Rights Act ruling that belongs in Congress, not a courtroom — and Joe breaks down exactly why activist conservative judges are just as dangerous as activist liberal ones. Then he goes deeper: why MAGA supporters genuinely believe Trump was sent to slay evildoers, why Democratic leadership keeps fumbling this historic moment, and why the media lets Trump confuse Ukraine with Iran without a single follow-up question.

This is The Social Contract subscriber live stream — raw, unfiltered, and worth every penny of your subscription. If you're not a paid subscriber yet, this is what you're missing every week.

We Disagree On So Much. But We’re Speaking Weekly Searching For Agreement May 07, 2026
    Show notes

I sat down with Xander Schultz of defiance.org. He comes from the socialist left, I come from the libertarian right. We don’t agree on much policy. But we talk regularly bcuz we both believe our political system is broken and corruption is a big fucking problem.

A Reminder: The GOP is Trump’s Party. And That Ain’t Changing Any Time Soon May 06, 2026
    Show notes

Indiana had its primary day yesterday, and damn near every Republican state legislator who opposed Trump’s redistricting plan lost. Not a surprise. I know there are still folks out there wishing the GOP will finally rid itself of Trump. That ain’t happening. He remains their dear leader.

Here’s The Only Way Democrats Lose May 05, 2026
    Show notes

Yes, my former political party is an authoritarian-embracing cult that no longer believes in democracy & the rule of law. And that’s really bad. But Republicans will continue to win if Democrats continue to go down the leftist, socialist, Israel-hating road.

The One Thing The American People Did That I Will Never Get Over May 04, 2026
    Show notes

Last week, four judges, all nominated for lifetime appointments, when asked who won the 2020 election, refused to say the truth that Biden won. Last night, a Republican candidate for governor in California did the same. It would be as if they were asked what 2 + 2 equals, and they couldn’t say 4. This is Trump’s legacy. And so many Americans let Trump get away with it.
