    The Sociable Homeschooler

Have you ever wondered how people just like you manage to homeschool their children and apparently love every moment of it? Are you ready to give up the formative years of your children’s lives to a stranger? Do you think homeschoolers are weird? Does the word, homeschool, bring to mind Birkenstocks, jumpers, and hairy legs? Honestly half my family fit the hairy leg stereotype…so who cares? I’m here to help you let go of any pre-conceived notions you may have about home educators. Forget all the excuses ever made under the sun for not homeschooling and listen to my show which is a generous mix of my life as the oxymoron, Sociable Homeschooler, international guests from all walks of life and light hearted views and comments about education and basements. I will also bend your ear with excerpts from my soon to be published book, also entitled, The Sociable Homeschooler, which chronicles many good causes for why my blue eyed cowboy and I chose to go off the deep end hand in hand with God and have everyone talking about us behind our backs and in the end winning them over. Come and be won over on Toginet Radio Live on Fridays, if only to get a weekly taste of Britain.

Rethink Teen: Diane Flynn Keith May 6th, 2011 I am thrilled to welcome back Diane Flynn Keith this week as my guest. Diane is an alternative education specialist, coach, author, and speaker. Her sons bypassed traditional high school and engaged in volunteer work, flight lessons, working in retail and the trades, and performing in music venues with their bands. They are now both graduates of the Musician's Institute and are pursing productive careers in the music industry. Diane presents workshops where she talks about how teens and their homeschooling parents can live an independent life of self directed learning. She claims that when you listen to her speak you won’t learn what’s being presented in high school or from the local school district. Diane has written an audio-seminar and resource guide on how to un-school your teens and describes herself as radical. Call it what you may, come and listen to her rave on Friday over several cups of tea!

    Mother's Milk: Theresa Bello Apr 29, 2011
    Show notes

This week it’s time to take a look at a career path that has drawn many devotees throughout the centuries, including Florence Nightingale, whose famous wards are still operational in London hospitals and Mother Theresa, who brought a glimmer of compassion into the lives of the forgotten poor in Calcutta. Yes, my friend, Theresa Bello and I could be talking about nurses or religious this week because the healthcare industry is still considered a vocation. We are actually going to be talking about nursing since Theresa is a Lactation Consultant at Baylor Hospital in downtown Dallas, which means she has the pleasure of working with newborns and their mothers. Our chat this Friday will cover topics such as why she chose to be a nurse and how she pursued her desire. She will offer some advice for aspiring caregivers, and we will also cover the difference between career and vocation. So fire up your computer and listen in on Friday afternoon for some helpful insights into a worthwhile future.

    Show notes

Have you caught yourself telling your children how they should be feeling: “that didn’t hurt!” or how long they can shed tears: “that’s enough, you can stop crying now.” Do you expect your children to say “please” and “thank you,” to be polite? Do you insist they are respectful of adults, not whine or yell, not get angry? Like me and many other parents, you probably answered yes to all the above. Enter my guest this week, Teresa Brett, author of the book, Parenting for Social Change. Teresa is returning to talk to us about strategies and tools for letting go of harmful control of our children. She homeschools her two young boys in the Sonoran Desert and is an advocate for being who we really are, from birth on up! Join us on Friday afternoon and be inspired to look deep within yourself and create new parenting paradigms.
