    The Sociable Homeschooler

Have you ever wondered how people just like you manage to homeschool their children and apparently love every moment of it? Are you ready to give up the formative years of your children’s lives to a stranger? Do you think homeschoolers are weird? Does the word, homeschool, bring to mind Birkenstocks, jumpers, and hairy legs? Honestly half my family fit the hairy leg stereotype…so who cares? I’m here to help you let go of any pre-conceived notions you may have about home educators. Forget all the excuses ever made under the sun for not homeschooling and listen to my show which is a generous mix of my life as the oxymoron, Sociable Homeschooler, international guests from all walks of life and light hearted views and comments about education and basements. I will also bend your ear with excerpts from my soon to be published book, also entitled, The Sociable Homeschooler, which chronicles many good causes for why my blue eyed cowboy and I chose to go off the deep end hand in hand with God and have everyone talking about us behind our backs and in the end winning them over. Come and be won over on Toginet Radio Live on Fridays, if only to get a weekly taste of Britain.

hannah Godfrey is a scientist and through her innovative reading programme she has proven that children don’t have to be rocket scientists in order to master reading. As my guest this week we will be talking about articulation, osmosis, and phonics. Hey Unique Gifted Lovable You is a non profit organization helping teens and tweens to discover their “inner cool” so that they can be who they are instead of who they think they need to be. I am blessed to be sharing a cuppa, once again, with Betty Hoeffner co-founder of this fabulous non-profit organization. Betty knows how tough it can be for teens to hold on to their self-esteem especially when faced with peer pressure, bullying and self-bullying. Betty was a bullied bully when she was a teen and knows what it’s like to hide behind a false persona. We’ll be talking about Cyber Bullying, a hot topic for all parents today, self bullying and bullying after school in the work place. Bullying is not an acceptable form of behaviour and the bullier needs help too. Listen to my show this Friday as Betty and I talk about how to recognize bullying, the reasons behind it and how to love ourselves so that we can love our neighbours. Get your tea and come along!

    Show notes

“Returning home after a year abroad has a way of putting life into a different perspective. Things that were once important no longer seem important – be it material possessions or ways in which we live our lives. Other aspects of our life, which were given less focus in the past, suddenly take on a higher priority.” These are the words of Lisa Shusterman, my guest this week, who with the help of her husband, put together a world odyssey for their family and changed their lives forever. They homeschooled on the road to get the most out of their travels and in the end discovered that relationships, with each other, their family at home and friends they had left behind or made along the way, are what matter the most. You’ll want to learn more about this adventurous family who put traditional life on hold to travel the world for a year. Be there, this Friday at 8am CT, bring your beverage!
