Victor is a legend in the making - like his brother before him (Xavier). Originally Victor pursued freestyle before being taken under the wing of his older brother and introduced to the joy of big mountains and free riding. We cover a lot of ground in this episode - including an avalanche that took him out in the movie Defiance.

Maria Thomsen - Mom First, Snowboarder Second - Episode 122

Can you balance life and follow your dreams at the same time? After sitting down and talking with Maria Thomsen the answer is a resounding YES! Snowboards have only been a part of her life since 2008 but it did not take Maria long to make her mark and become a professional athlete. Moving to Whistler from Denmark Maria would soon start filming with the Too Hard crew and from there she would go on to film another part in Jess Kimura's the Uninvited which would lead to her being INVITED to compete in X-Games Real Snow - the only female in a crowd of men. She won "Female Video Part of the Year" at the Transworld Rider's Poll Awards and "Breakthrough Athlete" at this year's iF3 awards. Maria is on her way to big things in the world of snowboarding this year but as a mother of a five year-old boy she knows where her priorities lie. Maria shows snowboarders young and old how to make time for the important things in life.

On today's show we discuss the growing boycott of Backcountry.com over their trademarking of the word "backcountry." We also take a tour around the world to look at riding this week and check in with Mons Roisland in Italy and Ted Borland at the Bonezone. The episode finishes off with Clip of the Week and we're giving away tickets to Tailgate Alaska.

    Moral of this story:

Two of the most legit pow movies of the season came out last week (also see Umami)

    Movies

    Who Cares - Charles Reid

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G70X75gTEb4&t=76s

BC Canadians are the real deal. You can tell that just from hearing charles reid in that interview. If you live and ride in BC, and you're at the highest level your shit is no joke. You can rip a sled. You can throw double corks off backcountry booter, You know how to ride in avalanche conditions. You're a boss in the backcountry. I know this, you know this, this is a known fact.

The crazy thing to me is seeing Joy, and more specifically Overjoy which really laid out the backstory to what the movie Joy is and how these guys who are at the top of the game in competitive snowboarding were able to take it to the backcountry. Obviously they had mentors in certain spots. Iguchi and Carter in Jackson, Danny Davis in Tahoe. What we are witnessing here is a passing of the torch if you ask me. It would be amazing to see the crew from Who Cares link up with the Riders from Joy and see what kind of crazy shit would come out of that.

Sunokero Korua pow movie Japan - snorkel

    https://vimeo.com/367935705

Every shot is framed so well that you could pause it at any moment and there you would have a photo you could mount on the wall of your chalet. If there's one thing we cant count on year after year is footage coning out of Japan. The Korua crew was able to showcase the vibe and feel of the ride in Japan. Utilizing camera angles that highlight the depth of the snow and the placement of the trees as much as characters as the snowboarders themselves.

    Overjoyed

The making of the movie Joy. Aired on the World of X-Games on ABC.

Mons Roisland - Norweigan Olympian - Episode 118

Mons is a name you may have not have heard of - but probably should have. He is a Norweigan snowboarder, an Olympian and X-Games Medalist, but has often been in the shadow of higher profile Norweigans like Stale Sandbech and Marcus Kleveland. He is also likely to make the finals of any event he enters - and is becoming more likely with each passing season top end up on the podium.

At 22 years old, Mons has a bright future in the sport and plenty of years to compete, film and ride at the highest level in the sport.
