Go Snowboarding! with Jeff Pensiero, Mike Arzt and Mike Basich Oct 09, 2020
    Show notes

What does Go Snowboarding! mean? In our first episode we follow along as Mark and Dustin ask themselves what it really means "to go snowboarding" and along the way way they end up convincing Jeff Pensiero and Mike Arzt to join them as co hosts for an exciting new winter exploring the do it yourself spirit that exists across all of snowboarding. Jake Aaronson (@east.bumfucc) has a phone call with Mark about rope tows which ends up helping to inspire this new podcast. Mike Chantry recounts snowboarding in 1965 and working with Tom Sims to bring freestyle to snowboarding in the 1980s - and how Craig Kelly was always too tech, On the search for more answers on what it means to "Go Snowboarding" they turn to Jeff Pensiero and Mike Arzt. Jeff founded the Baldface Lodge, a backcountry mecca for snowboarders in B.C. Mike used to work for Burton and Airwalk before founding his own creative agency and fabrication studio in Denver with his partner Frank. Soon after hearing their histories and asking what going snowboarding means to them Mark and Dustin realize they are the perfect mentors for a new generation of DIY snowboarders. Starring: Mike Arzt Jeff Pensiero Mike Chantry Jake Aaronson Mark Sullivan Dustin H James Mike Basich Did you like hearing the stories from Pensiero, Arzt, and Chantry? As of this moment the Ski Industry is suffocating the market place by making prices unaffordable and unattainable to the public. In order to revive the industry and get more people out boarding we need places for kids to learn and people for these kids to learn from. Mason Aguirre was one of the most celebrated halfpipe riders in the world, he had X-Games and Dew Tour Medals, got 4th at the Olympics and even beat Shaun White. Consistent results along with being an original member of the Frends crew along with Kevin Pearce, Scotty Lago, Kier Dillon, the Mitrani brothers and Danny Davis opened the door to big time deals with sponsors. Then the double cork changed everything. Soon Mason found himself on the outside looking in. When the contracts dried up, the substance abuse began. This week we go deep with Mason - about his rise - his fall - and the phoenix rising from the ashes.

For our first Pro-File episode of the season, we tapped Jerry Dugan, founder of Fall Line Films - not only did he make the first 16mm snowboard movie, he was the first guy to film in Alaska and Japan.

Jerry Dugan was an important figure in early snowboarding - he created Fall Line Films - and with it the first 16mm snowboard films ever made. Known for plot - traveling the world with unruly snowboarding pros of the era - guys like Farmer, Ranquet, Damian Sanders and others. His films were the first 'hero makers' from the 1990s. In fact, many of those heroes are considered legends today.

Since FLF Jerry has pursued a number of ventures as a commercial film maker, and with his hobbies - that include flying fixed wing planes. Did I mention he was the first guy ever to film snowboarding in Alaska - and the woods of Japan? His legacy is still felt by riders around the world today.

    PATHS • Megan Pischke-Porcheron • Episode 184

Paths is a new series from The Snowboard Project covering people who dedicate their recreational time to snowboarding - but have a 'real world' job.

Megan grew up as a professional snowboarder in the nineties Colorado jib scene. Soon she was traveling the globe, featured in magazines and movies. A successful pro career by any measure.

She went on to a job at North Face - and had a couple of kids with husband and pro shredder DCP. Then one day life changed - Megan was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Megan is not just a survivor - she is a thriver. Having held retreats for cancer survivors for over a decade with B4BC - she thought she knew what she was a in for - little did she know.

I caught up with her in Costa Rica where she4 is living with David and raising their kids.

Truly an inspirational story of living a life by design.

Paths is a new series from The Snowboard Project covering people who dedicate their recreational time to snowboarding - but have a 'real world' job.

Sam Bawden grew up as a snowboarder in Utah, before achieving significant success as an architect.

Buildings designed by Sam can be found on multiple continents, but you don't have to go much further than the Cardiff Fork in Utah to find where Sam finds both escape and connection - to his family, friends, work and personal passions.

There is a level of integrity in Sam that I think everyone can learn from. The fact that he has led a successful career - which allowed him to start a snowboarding brand is the cherry on top.
