Episode 176: The Mafia & San Gennaro Feast Sep 18, 2024

Show notes

The Feast of San Gennaro is among the most popular Italian heritage festivals in America taking place in New York City for ten days in Mid September annually. We know that the Mafia has always loved making money and to the surprise of no one they have been very involved in getting their hands in multiple money pots when it comes to the Feast committing extortion and many other crimes. It's said that the Genovese Crime Family has controlled it since the 1960's.

Episode 173: Frank Coppa Aug 28, 2024

Show notes

For the entire history of the Bonanno Crime Family up until 2002, the Mafia group NEVER had a cooperator in their ranks. That was until July of that year when family capo Frank Coppa decided to flip and testify against the upper echelon of the Bonannos. Coppa would directly testify against boss Joseph "Big Joey" Massino as well as various others. He was extremely destructive to the future of the Family. Coppa lived a wildly interesting life and had been around the Mob since his early 20's.

Show notes

Today we delve into the wild story of "Crazy" Roger Vella, a young South Philly kid who idolized Joey Merlino. In the end he became Joey's driver, got involved with his own dirt and tried to frame Joey and his friends. That would lead to betrayal like most mob stories. In the first 30 or so minutes of the show I talked about the recent brawl involving a Philly mobster last week and the fallout from it. I then answered some of your questions on the Mafia.
The biography starts at around 35 minutes, but I urge you to listen to the whole show!

Show notes

In this episode for the first 15 minutes or so we delve into the recent arrest of Sinaloa Cartel founder and kingpin El Mayo Zambada. After that I talked about Michael Blutrich who was the owner and founder of Scores Gentlemen's Club in Manhattan. In the early 90's he would open the business in the territory of the Gambino Crime Family. He was quickly shaken down by associates of the crew and down the road faced the consequences of dealing with them. The FBI wanted John Gotti Jr so they used Blutrich to get him.

Episode 169: The Mafia & The Fulton Fish Market Jul 24, 2024

Show notes

The original Fulton Fish Market opened on the lower half of Manhattan in the early 1820's. For nearly 200 years it operated as one of the biggest East Coast fish markets in the world. Sadly though when money is made and profits are in the millions and billions, the Mafia shows up and today I detail the control the Mob had on the Fulton Fish Market and the players that made millions ultimately in the early 2000's closing the original market and moving it to the Bronx to another market that was also controlled by the Lucchese Crime Family.

Episode 168: Hoboken Joe Stassi Jul 17, 2024

Show notes

Today we delve into mobster Joseph Stassi who was a complete Mafia enigma. He goes way back to the early 1920's when he gained the respect of people like Meyer Lansky. He operated with a cold demeanor and was looked at as a very callous killer who made a ton of money through numbers and eventually casinos in Cuba. He was extremely respected by many Mob Families and was willing to do whatever he was told. DISCLAIMER: My videos and podcasts are meant for entertainment and educational use.
