More Than 4 with Four-Time Cancer Survivor Sean Fredella Aug 15, 2017
    Show notes

Before turning 13, Sean Fredella would have battled cancer 4 different times. Sean's war with cancer started on Valentine's Day of 2003, when he was no older than 2 years-old. Having gone through leukemia, a bone marrow transplant, chemotherapy, and radiation all within a seven-and-a-half-year course, Sean represents the definition of resiliency.

In 2011, the Mountain Brook native was diagnosed with a rare adult tumor, "esthesioneuroblastoma." After multiple treatments and a resilient heart, Sean would be declared cancer-free at 13 years old. Now, years later, he will fight for children who can't fight themselves.

"Ever since I beat cancer, I felt like my fight wasn't over."

Now, Sean spends his time creating a tribe of supporters behind the motto, "Our kids deserve more than 4%." This saying was built upon the fact that only 4% of the money donated to cancer research is allotted to pediatric cancer research. Sean has vigorously recruited companies, organizations, sports teams, and individuals to support his efforts in making September a "golden" month in support of his campaign #MoreThan4Athletics. "Sports can motivate people and change people's lives."

"Maybe this is the generation…this is the time where people are going to stand up, come together, and help."

We hope you enjoy this podcast as much as we enjoyed recording it. The MindSide stands by #MoreThan4Athletics

The Growth Game with CFP and former LSU Baseball Player Pete Bush Aug 08, 2017
    Show notes

"The way people see their money is so interwoven into who they are."

Pete Bush, certified financial planner and advisor joins The MindSide Podcast this week to discuss the intangibles needed for managing a person's (including elite athlete's) wealth.

Bush dives in to the importance of the relationship between a financial advisor and their clientele by highlighting the "bond" that is formed between the two when one's money is being trusted in another person's hands.

"Once you've helped a person understand who they are and what their financial personality is, then that trust just develops."

What does personality have to do with money? Everything. Bush digs into the nature of elite athletes by exposing 3 of the most encouraged and important characteristics which they have been coached to live by: aggressiveness, overconfidence, and a sense of invincibility. Pete then draws the parallel between these characteristics in the game, and the way financially awarded athletes deal with their money.

"Reality gets distorted as far as how hard it is to come out of the game and transition into more normal expectations around monthly income."

We hope you enjoy this podcast as much as we do.

    Show notes

It's more than just a play call. It's a lifestyle. This week, The MindSide Podcast brings on "Kick-Six" (Auburn Football) announcer, Rod Bramblett, to share his wisdom and life lessons he has learned from being a sport's announcer. An announcer creates the vision for the listener at home, and it's not as easy as it seems. You must know the people, the stats, the opponents, the personalities, it's about "treating it like studying up for a quiz."

In this podcast, Rod talks about the preparation and the work that goes into his profession along with the attitude needed to excel such as the acceptance of constructive feedback.

"The day when you think 'I got this all down pat,' is the day you're probably going to get fired."

Starting as a DJ for a local news station, Bramblett worked hard to become one of the best sports announcers in the field. Once he landed a sports announcer position the work didn't stop there. "You have to be mentally strong and mentally committed to making both your home and your professional life work."

A Journey of Power, Faith, and Fulfillment with former NFL DT Jeremy Towns Jul 26, 2017
    Show notes

"People who tend to help other people tend to live the most fulfilled life."

Former NFL Defensive Tackle, and current medical student, Jeremy Towns, joins Dr. Bhrett McCabe to discuss his journey through life, school, and the NFL.

From a young age, Towns had to face challenges that most 13 year olds would run away from, but instead of bowing out, he stood up to his circumstances. Jeremy talks about the mindset he needed throughout his high school and college years on and off the field.

"Anytime you put talent with working hard then you have a chance for unbelievable results."

This proved true as he made his way to the NFL after his years at Samford University training under coach Pat Sullivan. He then found himself faced with an unfamiliar challenge, one of confidence. On this podcast, Towns explains his journey through the power of faith and how God has fueled him to make a dent in society starting in his college years,

"Once I believed that I'm supposed to be here, it was another level of success."

With 2 season-ending injuries, and 3 NFL teams later, Towns is now a medical student driven by a purpose to help others.

"My goal is inspiration and hope," Towns explains, and through the power of his faith and mental endurance, Jeremy Towns will continue to create a movement that is continuing to spread in Alabama.

Brett Bartholomew: The Intangibles of Great Coaches Jul 05, 2017
    Show notes

In his new book, "Conscious Coaching," author, Brett Bartholomew, exposes a relevant gap in the strength and conditioning world. The connection between a coach and their athlete. "You can have all the books marked in the world, but you don't know how to connect with people. What's it worth in this world?" In the sport's world, we are all often focused on the result. From the number on the bar we squat to the number of in-season wins, we are focused on the product rather than being focused on all the moving parts that help a team achieve that product.

Bartholomew digs into the intangibles that are needed for a coach to become a great mentor to his athletes. He simply states, "The number of blogs read isn't the equivalent to the number of groups led." The MindSide Podcast is honored to have Bartholomew in front of the mic this week to engage in conversation highlighting the social, emotional, and intellectual effects of coaching. Enjoy!
