    Pittsburgh Pirates Field Coordinator and 3B Coach - Mike Rabelo Jan 10, 2022

    In today’s episode, I speak to Mike Rabelo, the Major League Field Coordinator for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

    Mike was the hitting coach for the Gulf Coast League Tigers and the Short-season A Connecticut Tigers. He was hired as manager of the Connecticut Tigers for the 2014 season. He was also in the managerial position for the West Michigan Whitecaps, Lakeland Flying Tigers, and Erie SeaWolves'.

    He shares his experiences and what he learned as a field coordinator, what goes on behind the scenes, and what makes the game happen to try to get all the players to coordinate and practice differently, better, and manage time efficiently!


    He talks about educating players in the best way he can because he believes that the players want to learn and want to be challenged. In this damn good conversation, he talks about compassion for players, how to win players, and developing relationships with players for a long time.


    Learn about the importance of how players should run smart, knowing the situation, where's the ball, what's the sign, and where’s the defense.


    He shares advice to coaches out there on helping players deal with failure and how it goes back to timing!

    Stealing Bases, Scoring Runs, and Summer Baseball with Mike Roberts Dec 20, 2021

    With over 40 years of coaching experience, it is an honor to have on a legend in this weeks episode, Mike Roberts. Mike and I met this past season in spring training when I was working for the Baltimore Orioles organization. I instantly felt a connection with Mike and enjoyed picking his brain on all of the intricacies in the game. He spent 23 years as the head coach at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. During the summer he is the head coach for the Cotuit Kettlers in the Cape Cod League. In this episode, we talk a lot about stealing bases, summer baseball, and scoring runs. Mike is well known throughout the country as being innovative when it comes to stealing bases. Mike's son, Brian, played 13 years in the MLB and used his Dad's methods to steal bases throughout his entire career.

    Bat Fitting and On Deck Routines with the Baseball Performance Lab Dec 13, 2021

    Why do you swing the bat you do? What was the reason you went with the specific length, weight, handle? Is there a way to identify what specific bat you should be swinging?


    On this week's episode, we have Liam Mucklow who is the founder of the Baseball Performance Lab and Micah Gibbs who is the Director of Player Development at BPL on the podcast to discuss Bat Fitting.


    I have yet to see anyone in the Baseball world do what these guys are doing from an equipment standpoint. They are using objective information to find the perfect bat for each hitter to maximize their production at the plate.

    Building a High School Program with Art Senato Dec 06, 2021

    Atlanta Braves MLB Assistant Hitting Coach - Bobby Magallanes Nov 15, 2021

    2021 World Series Champion, Bobby Magallanes joins the show this week! Prior to this past season Bobby had spent 31 years in the minor leagues as a player and as a coach. While he was coaching in the minor leagues, Bobby got his masters degree in performance psychology. Let me tell you from first hand experience, that is useful when coaching hitters during a 100 plus game season. We also talk about the importance of having a growth mindset as a coach. mindfulness, what coaching actually means, and two strike approach.

    NAIA to the Big Leagues with Ben Heller Nov 08, 2021

    On this episode we have a current player joining us on the podcast! Ben Heller, who has had an amazing journey from starting back as a high school pitcher not getting recruited. He then signed on to play at Olivet Nazarene a small NAIA college, got drafted by the Indians in the 22nd round, and ended up making it to the MLB. Ben has had some tough luck with injuries the last few seasons. In this episode, he talks about having to deal with those injuries from a mental and physical standpoint. We also talk about how Ben uses meditation to stay in the moment, why being too coachable isn't a good thing and advice to young players.
