Primus posted on their social media today (Tuesday) that longtime drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander has “abruptly” quit the band on the heels of what they called “a fabulous spring and summer of touring” and with “some fabulous plans ahead.” They say his departure was “a complete shock” and that their only contact with him was an email saying he’d “lost his passion for playing.” They say they will do their annual New Year’s show in a one-off augmented version with members of Holy Mackerel and Frog Brigade; that Tool drummer Danny Carey will join them at a number of scheduled shows with Tool in the Dominican Republic; and that they “plan on searching for the greatest drummer on earth” to replace Alexander.
