Ep 818 Science Fiction University: Dark Matter and the Multiverse Jul 09, 2024

Show notes

Diving into Apple TV's new series "Dark Matter," based on Blake Crouch's bestselling novel. We'll explore how the show tackles concepts of both parallel realities, and the nature of identity across multiple timelines.

But the multiverse madness doesn't stop there! We'll expand our discussion to other sci-fi shows that have expertly played with alternate realities:

"Counterpart": How J.K. Simmons' dual roles illuminate questions of nature vs. nurture across parallel Earths
"Loki": Marvel's time-hopping adventure and its implications for free will and predestination
"The Man in the High Castle": Exploring how history and culture diverge in an alternate post-WWII reality

Science fiction is much more than quantum physics on paper, it's also a good "what if" story! We hope this episode will expand your list of "must watch shows" using multiverse theory in science fiction.

Ep 816: From Grassroots to Gears Jun 27, 2024

Show notes

[Recorded before the Presidential Debate.]
Time for a deep dive into the troubling parallels between the decline of "liberal" mainstream media and the recent corporate buyouts of popular automotive YouTube channels like Donut Media.

Remember when MSNBC was a bastion of creative, progressive messaging? We take a nostalgic journey through the network's evolution, examining how the suits upstairs never got how they couldn't "add conservative voices to reach a wider audience." Megyn Kelly, Hugh Hewitt, Ronna McDaniel? MSNBC tried them all. This leads us to ask, WHAT liberal voice?
This same pattern plays out in the world of automotive and fiber arts content creation. Once independent and creatively driven channels like Donut Media face similar pressures and changes under corporate ownership.
Three main points for this episode?

The transformation of MSNBC from a progressive powerhouse to a corporate mouthpiece
The impact of corporate buyouts on the authenticity and messaging of automotive and other YouTubers
The broader implications of YouTube's hegemony for independent media and content creation

This episode is a must-listen for anyone concerned about the future of independent voices in media.

Ep 814: Stop Normalizing 'Normalizing' Jun 20, 2024

Show notes

There is no "normalizing" you know who, it's just pretending it's okay with you that 39% of the country loves fascism. In other news the Biden campaign wins a "Don't Sugarcoat It Award." More at proleftpod.com.

Ep 812: What's An Independent? Jun 13, 2024

Show notes

A letter from a listener leads us to ask whether anyone left of center can use the word "independent" about themselves. Plus the Hunter Biden verdict isn't the worst thing ever, and we've got some words for Pope Alito and his wife.

Ep 811: 'I Never Thought Evangelicals Would Eat MY Face!' Jun 11, 2024

Show notes

No Fair Remembering Stuff covers this week's news of conservative columnist David French, who never thought his fellow evangelicals would cancel HIM. He was taken to task quite appropriately by another "canceled" evangelical, who happened to be a progressive woman. Huh.

Ep 810: Seeing The Republican Fascist Matrix Jun 06, 2024

Show notes

There are a small number of people who are Agents of American fascism. These are the Steve Bannons, Tim Pools and Stephen MIllerses. Stone-cold nazis with a clear agenda.
Then there is a much larger group – the reprogrammable meatbags of the Republican base. They think they've taken the "red pill" when they clearly just like the steak Fox and Newsmax are feeding them.

Then there is a group who have learned to actually see the Republican fascist and their both-sides media enablers Matrix as it is operating in the real world in real-time.
Guess who.
