    My guest is Drew DeVore - podcast host, producer and audio engineer for Jupiter Broadcasting. Here are the podcasts he hosts: Linux Headlines, Linux Unplugged, Self Hosted, and Jupiter Extras.

    We discussed a ton including:

    • Interfaces/Mixers: Behringer X32, Focusrite Scarlett (couple different models and generations), Zoom H5, U22, Mackie Onyx Artist interface
    • Records dry, adds effects later
    • Mics: RE20, RE320 (didn't prefer it), MXL990, Sennheiser MD46
    • All recording into Linux-based computers. Less audio proficient hosts use Audacity, more proficient (myself, studio, couple of other hosts) use Reaper.
    • Headphones: Typically records with AT M40x closed back, mixes with ATH-AD700.
    • Restores audio using a mix of software depending on what's wrong, and usually contains a mix of iZotope RX7 Advanced and Acon Digital products
    • iZotope RX7 Advanced
    • Reaper
    • Mixing and effects done "in the box" while editing
    • Host Track Mixing - Compression, EQ, De-ess
    • Master Bus Mixing - Glue compression, Limiting
    • Mastering - FabFilter Pro-Q3, Pro-MB, Saturn 2, and Pro-L2
    • iZotope Ozone 9
    • Dynamic EQ in Fabfilter Pro-Q 3
    • ALL Fabfilter plugins including Pro-MB, Saturn and the rest!
    • Master's episodes in a new session
    • Automation system for publishing: Render to FLAC, Upload FLAC to castablasta which generates various copies of it, MP3 goes to Fireside, Version goes to Youtube.

    My guest is Dave Hamilton, Co-host of Mac Geek Gab, Gig Gab, and The Small Business Show. He is also the Co-founder of The Mac Observer and BackBeat Media.

    We discussed tons of valuable info, including:

    • Heil PR40 - since 2016
    • Presonus Quantum 2626 - the thunderbolt line
    • Audio Hijack - to record the fully mixed audio LIVE
    • Logic Pro
    • Sending everything to a buss sent to BlackHole (what Soundflower was, creates 2 audio devices)
    • Squadcast input set to BlackHole
    • ICON Platform M+ --- external control surface, 9 faders, ~$450, least expensive WITHOUT motorized faders,
    • He tested the Presonus Faderport 8 which is ~$1,200
    • Without motorized faders: Korg nanoKONTROL Studio Mobile MIDI Control Surface
    • Processing in Logic Pro: EQ, noise gate, compressor, de-esser
    • Mastering chain: Compression - quite heavy, de-esser, limiter
    • Adding a touch of reverb to "put everyone in the same room." Used to use an ART outboard reverb unit. In Logic he uses Chromaverb.
    • Auphonic for leveling, processing, adding metadata, chapters (add manually or import a text file!), convert to MP3, send directly to FTP server.
    • CashFly for media hosting
    • Feed generated from PowerPress

    • FabFilter Pro-Q3 for EQ , sometimes as a "de-esser," and sometimes using a dynamic band around 100-300 Hz to bring that area down if and when someone gets close to the mic. Also Tlit mode and Match EQ to match guest with host.

    • FabFilter Pro-C2 in clean mode, uses it lightly w/ 4:1 ratio, fastest attack time possible, knee halfway,
    • FabFilter Pro-L2 with slower attack in Transparent mode
    • Vocal Rider - only to turn down the signal
    • The close relationship between compressor and limiter
    • Slate Digital plugins - some color the sound quite a bit!
    • Revival - a sonic enhancer from Slate Digital
    • Using a Tape Emulator to kinda de-harsh things
    • Master buss:Waves WLM
