Roman Hayda, MD speaks with Sam about orthopedic equipment needed in Ukraine for wounds and fracture care and what orthopedic surgeons are seeing.
Please go to AUMF.org for more:
"American Ukrainian Medical Foundation AUMF, in cooperation with UMANA - Ukrainian Medical Association of North America, and Canada-Ukraine Foundation (CUF), is working on obtaining surgical equipment for the management of complex extremity injuries from the war in Ukraine: external fixators and negative pressure wound care (wound VAC).
1. Surgical sets for external fixation of extremity fractures (new or used*),
2. Steinman pins (4, 5, and 6 mm),
3. Devices for negative pressure wound care (wound VAC),
4. Disposable materials for wound VAC (sponges, tubing, and occlusive adhesive dressing).
There are four areas where you can help:
1. Equipment (companies manufacturers, hospitals, and individual orthopedic surgeons)
2. Logistics from the US to Ukraine
3. Funding: bit.ly/AUMF2
4. Contacts to obtain the above
How will the funds be used:
1. Purchase of the equipment
2. Shipment to Ukraine
* Currently, AUMF can only ship new equipment. We do not have a capability to handle used equipment. However, we can get you in contact with orthopedic surgeons in Ukraine to discuss their needs."
