After warding off Jeremy Stockton and his sycophants, the gang come clean about the strange experiences they've had recently, and Hailee and Samson have it out over their differences in philosophy. With the uneasy alliance struck, the four young heroes must brave the Braddock House in hopes of discovering the source of the paranormal disturbance that seems to be rippling through the town of Chester. Both Mitch's father and Samson's grandfather pass down stories of Arthur Hook's old baseball bat, their sudden recollections too timely for coincidence. In the Summer of 2007, Mitch Hook is graduating from Chester High School in Chester, Illinois. Mitch, his best friend Walter Marchand, and acquaintances Sampson Campbell and Hailee Pennington are among the few who admit that Chester is simply not a normal town. No town this size should have this many disappearances, urban legends, and reported hauntings... Not to mention a vast, maximum security mental hospital and prison for the criminally insane. The night before the last day of school, Walter, Hailee, and Samson all have terrifying experiences that seem somehow connected, and Mitch knows that something must be done. But that's assuming the high school bully doesn't waste one or more of them before they can do their Scooby thing.

Upon being extracted from the ruins of the Congregation of the Gentle Hand's secret sanctum, our operatives undergo the debrief process, with Pierce's motivations falling under suspicion.

Darren Feldman asks for Kiera and Pierce by name, requesting a visit in exchange for valuable information. He reveals that the extent of his unexplained knowledge goes far greater than ORPHEUS expected, and is ready to make a deal.

Elijah and his faithful have retreated to their ramshackle fortress deep in the Everglades. There, the final ritual is begun as Elijah seeks to actualize his vision. Mitch and Kiera travel to Florida to attend the Congregation of the Gentle Hand's monthly tent revival and attempt to reconnect with Pierce. Finding Pierce is simple enough, but ascertaining the nature of the group and its aims is nearly impossible with ears everywhere and Pierce's own allegiances in question. Elijah, the Congregation's charismatic leader, puts on a touching service on the theme of kindness, and seems every inch the guileless saint, but ORPHEUS has seen his kind before. Can Kiera and Mitch uncover the truth without compromising their anonymity? Mitch and Kiera descend into the depths of Sanctuary, ORPHEUS's maximum security holding facility, to meet with Darren Feldman. Feldman, a sadistic serial killer once involved in ritual worship of Ishtar, has insights concerning Pierce, Kiera, and Mitch alike, all of which seem impossible for him to have learned from the cell in which he's been entombed. To make matters worse, Darren raises doubts about whether or not Kiera and Mitch even have the sanctity of their own memories to rely on, and mockingly hints that he and Kiera have some kind of past together.

Shaken by their disturbing encounter, both operatives try to make sense of the missing threads of memory that torment them as the Congregation of the Gentle Hand makes ready for its tent revival. In a secretive, late-night meeting, Kiera and Mitch meet with their handler, Tiresias. He reveals to them that their upcoming mission is the subject of heated debate at the highest levels in ORPHEUS, and that the information they're to be officially given will set them up for nothing but failure. Risking a fate worse than death, Tiresias tries to give his operatives the best chance he can.

Meanwhile, Pierce and Jack find themselves outnumbered and outgunned in a hopeless firefight, and must use all their skills, both natural and unnatural, for even a chance of survival. In the Summer of 2016, Pierce Keswick, an ORPHEUS operative on a deep-cover cult infiltration, fell out of contact with the organization. Months later, his location is found.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Hook, a fallen operative reconstructed with cybernetic technology, struggles to recover his lost memories.

Elsewhere, a young psychic suffers painful visions of her guardian, ORPHEUS operative Kiera Jackson, engaged in a clandestine meeting with Mitchell and an unknown figure.

What unseen threads connect these three operatives, and what does their future hold? If Pierce's former partner is to be believed, the answers won't be pleasant.
