Winter Kills Writer / Director William Richert May 22, 2023

Hollywood Maverick: Wild Bill Richert - Film Society of Lincoln Center
A bold, brash uncompromising figure in the tradition of Orson Welles and John Cassavetes, William Richert burst on to the Hollywood scene near the end of the storied 1970s, first as a screenwriter and then as director of the dazzling conspiracy opus Winter Kills. A critical triumph abandoned by its studio, the movie set the tone for Richert's career to come-a quartet of highly original, idiosyncratic American features that have maintained an almost clandestine existence, subject to poor distribution and myriad unauthorized versions.

White House Call Girl: The Real Watergate Story May 20, 2023
    Show notes

Ex-stripper Heidi Rikan was working for the mob in Washington, DC. White House Call Girl tells how a call girl operation she was running at the time led to the Watergate break-in, which brought down Tricky Dick Nixon himself.
Needless to say, this is not part of the usual Watergate story that has come down to us over the decades. It is also only fair to point out that this version of the story might be dismissed out of hand as being dangerous "revisionist" history. If you're not careful, you might end up being called a conspiracy theorist.
You can also be called crazy—which is what happened to a young lawyer named Phillip Bailley, one of the principal witnesses to this ignored bit of American history. When he was foolish enough to blow the whistle on Rikan and her call girl ring, he was locked up at St. Elizabeth's, the District of Columbia's mental hospital, in the ward for the criminally insane.
For forty years we've only heard the Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein perspective on Watergate. Now we've got the photographs for the revisionist model. What's more, we've got Heidi's little black book.
White House Call Girl was published last season in an eBook edition only. The paperback edition includes new information on the murder of call girl—and playmate of Vice President Spiro Agnew—Pat Adams. With the help of newly-released FBI documents, we fill in more of the blanks in this long-suppressed story.

Gordon Woods - Celtic Boys Club - Udpate May 20, 2023
    Show notes

Last year a group of former players launched their legal bid to gain compensation and recognition for the abuse they had experienced whilst playing and training to be in the Celtic Boys Club. Although successfully covered up for many years through threats, sloth and intimidation, many of the victims now feel secure enough to reveal the extent of the abuse they suffered, admissions they are not afraid to make both in public and in court.
Gordon Woods updates Ed Oppeman about the progress of the case, recalling his story and naming the people responsible. In a harrowing account, Woods tells of the complicity of representatives of Celtic FC, and more particularly the Boys Club which scouted for talent.
22 former players have so far come forward bringing "group proceedings" against Celtic FC PLC.

Tasha Adams - Oathkeepers Wife May 20, 2023
    Show notes

With the recent verdict on Stewart Rhodes, the leader of the Oathkeepers, The Opperman Report caught up with someone who was formally associated with Rhodes and the Oathkeepers setup, albeit on the periphery.
Tasha Adams returns to talk about Rhodes and her struggles to finally be free of the militia and it's threats.
She also makes some surprising (although really, not that surprising but more of a informed confirmation) of where Rhodes and his cohorts are having their defence funded from.
Tasha Adams is the former wife of Stewart Rhodes. Rhodes is the creator and leader of the Oath Keepers, a gathering of outfitted fanatics. Rhodes is an Army veteran and former lawyer. He founded the Oath Keepers, a right-wing, anti-government extremist group. Rhodes worked as a lawyer in Montana, and is the main spokesman for the Oath Keepers. Rhodes believes there is a global oligarchy that will destroy the US, and that the country will be taken over by "Marxist leftists."

Worst Interests of the Child: The Trafficking of Children and Parents Through U.S. Family Courts May 18, 2023
    Show notes

“Keith Harmon Snow’s meticulously documented investigation into sex-trafficking of children by American judges is not to be missed. This scandal is one of the most important censored stories in our country today. I might not believe what Mr. Snow has written if I had not independently investigated two dozen cases not discussed in his article, and found ample evidence of the precise dynamics he lays out for us here. Anyone who says they care about child welfare needs to learn what is happening in family courts and take action until it is stopped. Once you start reading this exposé, you won’t be able to put it down.” —Lundy Bancroft Author of Why Does He Do That? History’s largest-selling book on domestic violence

Trials of Walter Ogrod: The Shocking Murder, So-Called Confessions, and Notorious Snitch That Sent a Man to Death Row May 18, 2023
    Show notes

The horrific 1988 murder of four-year-old Barbara Jean Horn shocked the citizens of Philadelphia. Plucked from her own front yard, Barbara Jean was found dead less than two and a half hours later in a cardboard TV box dragged to a nearby street curb. After months of investigation with no strong leads, the case went cold. Four years later it was reopened, and Walter Ogrod, a young man with autism spectrum disorder who had lived across the street from the family at the time of the murder, was brought in as a suspect.
Ogrod bears no resemblance to the composite police sketch based on eyewitness accounts of the man carrying the box, and there is no physical evidence linking him to the crime. His conviction was based solely on a confession he signed after thirty-six hours without sleep. "They said I could go home if I signed it," Ogrod told his brother from the jailhouse. The case was so weak that the jury voted unanimously to acquit him, but at the last second—in a dramatic courtroom declaration—one juror changed his mind. As he waited for a retrial, Ogrod's fate was sealed when a notorious jailhouse snitch was planted in his cell block and supplied the prosecution with a second supposed confession. As a result, Walter Ogrod sits on death row for the murder today.
Informed by police records, court transcripts, interviews, letters, journals, and more, award-winning journalist Thomas Lowenstein leads readers through the facts of the infamous Horn murder case in compelling, compassionate, and riveting fashion. He reveals explosive new evidence that points to a condemned man's innocence and exposes a larger underlying pattern of prosecutorial misconduct in Philadelphia.
