Ed Opperman’s guest today is Lynn Crook. False memory syndrome is a go-to diagnosis for memories which, when recovered, seem to have no corroborating evidence. There’s a whole world of research into False Memory Syndrome, the causes and effects of ‘remembering’ things which never happened. But the syndrome has also become a useful tool in discrediting those whose recollections are clear enough, yet lack substantive evidence.

When states allowed adults who were molested as children to sue for damages, accused parents went on the offense. The parents claimed the accusations were false memories implanted by therapists. The parents established a non-profit and invested millions in a PR campaign to promote themselves as falsely accused, and to dismiss crimes committed against children as false memories. As evidence, they offered the story of an older brother who convinced his younger brother he was lost at a mall. The false memory story went viral. The popular press and psychology textbooks failed to challenge false memory claims. Individuals who challenged false memories were silenced. The author explains how her successful lawsuit against her parents helped her uncover the rest of the false memory story.
Lynn Crook, M.Ed., has a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Washington (1970). Lynn was herself a therapist when she recovered memories of childhood sexual abuse. Lynn Crook, MEd, successfully sued her parents for damages in 1994, based on a corroborated claim of childhood sexual abuse.

December the 8th, 1980. New York. West 72nd. The building which is one of the oldest in New York City, so old there were not even roads around it at first, was the location for one of the most notorious killings of the 20th Century.
Waiting outside the Dakota is Mark Chapman, a fan from Hawaii who will, at about 11:23pm, claim his place in history by firing his hollow point bullets from his .38 into John Lennon.
Instantly the media branded him a lone nut. The world mourned while Chapman was arrested and charged in an investigation which was anything but thorough.
Since then questions have started to arise about the exact sequence of events, the handling of evidence and the lack of either a proper forensic investigation or indeed, almost any other kind. It was a slam dunk for NYPD. Or so it seemed.
David Whelan is a documentary filmmaker and writer who has been researching the Lennon assassination, and has evidence and statements from those there on the night which gives a strong possibility Chapman didn't kill Lennon. At least, not alone.

Anthony Daly
In 1975 Anthony Daly left his home in Northern Ireland hoping to escape The Troubles.
He was naive but excited about being in London but after six days in the city he was swindled out of his rent money and began to get scared.
So when two wealthy and well spoken men offered to help him he was relieved he'd finally found some kind faces to help him.
While his new friends, known to him as 'Charles' and 'Keith', had been drinking all night he'd stuck to cola. Sadly not everything was as it seemed and his life was about to change forever. As he puts it 'I was like an unsuspecting lamb to the slaughter'.
He tells his uncomfortable story to Ed Opperman.

Clive Howard Kelly - Music legend
If there is someone who knows them all, from the Beatles to the Police to the Pistols to almost everyone in music and entertainment, it’s Clive Howard Kelly.

Dave Sherman - The Legend of Ted Gunderson
In an interview from way back in the Archives, Dave Sherman joined Ed Opperman to talk about the Franklin Financial Scandal and his involvement with the now legendary Government agent, Ted Gunderson
Ted Gunderson was a senior FBI official who, during his career, investigated a number of famous cases. In the process, one of two things happened: Gunderson stumbled on a secret satanic child murdering cult and included two American presidents, Reagan and Bush (41) or No such things exist and he is utterly irrational.
It should be noted that the introduction to this interview is missing, and a decision was made that rather than edit together a piecemeal version, which would have sounded clunky and perhaps lessened the content overall, a brief introduction was placed in the file before Mr Sherman starts talking about his background. As this in no way seems to alter the context, content or accuracy of the interview, it was deemed best left 'as is'.
