Cheers Luvs… the cavalries here! This week much to Matt’s intense delight, we review the ever-growing set of animated shorts based around the video game Overwatch! Along with help from IGN Editor and D.Va main Lucy O’Brein, we raise our reviewing APM by not only talking the short films themselves but also the way they may be changing the art of multi-format story telling forever. Can Shahir get on the payload of this possible future? Or will Lucy and Matt get steamrolled like noobs refusing to jump in team chat? Let’s break it down! To join our overwatch team, hit us up at onlymoviepodcast@gmail.com or follow us on twitter @onlymoviepod. Drop by the Facebook page for some ongoing conversations about the Marvel MCU and arthouse movies! Well its a little past that time of year again where we were contractually obligated to take a look back at our favorite films of 2016! But the real question is... how many of Shahir and Matt's top 10 movies will line up? Call your bookies now, because odds are this one will be an audio blood bath! ;) What were your picks? Does this Michael Fassbender vehicle dig into the pleasure centers of your gaming brain? Or will its tensionless giant robot-claw driven Animus narrative leave you feeling like an Abstergo patient? Join special guest VFX Guru Red Charyszyn (because Shahir dodged the history draft) as we find out if nothing is true AND everything is permitted. As we farewell Barack Obama from the White House, we take a look back at the making of the man who would one day be president in Vikram Ghandi's Netflix Original "Barry". If there's only one Obama biopic you see this year... this is that one! Along with the help from kick-ass producer Steven Roberts, we'll let you know if this Net-flick stands on its own two feet, or if "Barry "(like most of us in 2016) is living in a post-truth world. As always, send us your feedback, requests and other general shenanigans to onlymoviepodcast@gmail.com, or on Twitter @onlymoviepod. Also check out our website at onlymoviepodcast.com. Keep those iTunes reviews coming, they really help us spread the word about the show! This week, with the help of the Truth-Fairy herself Tessa Claire Hersh, we take the podcast beyond dialog and review the Oscar-Darling* La La Land! But does this modern day musical use its deep hollywood roots to entangle our hearts, or does it squander its opportunity and leave us dead on the vocal vine? Once you hear the first few minutes of this episode... you might just sing the answer yourself! *"Oscar-Darling" was used because Shahir doesn't believe in Matt's insisted term of "Oscar-Bait". As always, drop us a line at onlymoviepodcast@gmail.com or on twitter @onlymoviepod. We love those iTunes reviews so please don't forget to rate us! 'Twas the night before Christmas and all on the screen, Bruce Willis wasn't sleeping 'cause terrorists are mean. The Karl was hung but the ceiling with chains, In hopes that Hans "boubie" would meet John McClane. When outside the plaza there came such a clatter, Carl Winslow pulled up to see what was the matter. And as we watch the roof blow and Bruce jumped out of sight, Merry Die Hard to all as our review is air tight! ;) See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
X-mas came early for all you Younglings out there! Of course this weeks film is the first side-story of the Star Wars saga: Rogue One! But Shahir and Matt refused to nerd out alone. Joining them is the greatest Sith lord NYC has ever known: Andrew Schulz of MTV and Brilliant Idiots fame. Together our band of misfit (licensed Disney) toys not only will let you know if the newest space opera chapter is worth your time, but also hit some real-talk about how Sci Fi reflects real life, why the Rebels might be the bad guys, and whether or not fellatio is legal in Singapore! What happens in a galaxy far far away, stays in a galaxy far far away. It's listener request time and this one's been a long time coming... 12 years in fact! We go down the rabbit hole of Richard Linklaters 2014 critically acclaimed "Boyhood" Joined by production manager Dan Kuvalakis who fills us in on the logistical nightmares of making a 12 year film, Matt and Shahir find themselves surprisingly in agreement, even if they're swimming against critical consensus (98% on Rotten Tomatoes!) We're thrilled to present this special panel discussion on the unique post-production for Ang Lee's newest film "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk". The film was the first to be shot and projected at 120 frames per second, creating an experience some reviewers have called "hyperreal". This live panel was recorded at the HBO Theater in New York and features several members of the post-production team who offer unique insight into the challenges and future potential for this exciting new format. Our panelists are: Andrew Leven - 1st Assistant Editor Derek Schweickart - Dailies Technician (and so much more!) Marcy Robinson - Colorist Ben Gervais - Technical Supervisor Alex Lemke - VFX (East Side Effects) Michael Huber - VFX (East Side Effects) Leslie Hough - VFX Producer. This is a very technical discussion, but there's plenty of interesting info for the casual listener as well! The panel was presented in collaboration with the Blue Collar Post Collective (www.bluecollarpostcollective.com). If you enjoy it, let us know by emailing at onlymoviepodcast@gmail.com or hit us up on twitter @onlymoviepod.
