The Indians trade Yan Gomes Dec 01, 2018

Show notes

There's been a lot of speculation since the Indians' season ended that the team was going to have to cut salary, and Yan Gomes was a name that has been frequently mentioned as a potential trade candidate. Gomes had a $7 million dollar guarantee in 2019, with two club options in 2020 and 2021 worth $20 million total. While it doesn't clear a ton of money in 2019, it does likely begin a process in which the Indians try and maintain their status as a World Series contender, while shedding salary and bringing in younger players.

WFNY's Jim Pete, Mike Hattery, and Gage Will take a look at the Yan Gomes trade, and what it means going forward.

The topics include:

Yan Gomes value to the team over the years
Roberto Perez stepping in as a starter thanks to his defense
Eric Haase getting an opportunity to be a full time major leaguer
25-year old right hander Jefry Rodriguez, and how the Indians have an opportunity to develop him into a reliever
23-year old outfielder Daniel Johnson, and how he fits into the Indians future
What are the Indians really doing here? Are they moving salary to bring in players, keep what they have, or are the just moving salary?
Does moving Yan Gomes mean a Corey Kluber deal is imminent?
Is Trevor Bauer trying to get traded?
Conspiracy theories

The Cleveland Indians Hot Stove, 2018-2019 Nov 15, 2018

Show notes

The Cleveland Indians head into the Hot Stove season with many questions. With the extremely talented duo of Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez, the Indians window should remain open for the next three years. But with a maxed out salary structure, and a pitching staff that remains top-notch, but aging, can the Indians maintain their chance to win a World Series, or are we just treading water to the inevitable departure of their MVP and Cy Young candidate stars? WFNY's Jim Pete, Mike Hattery, and Gage Will dive into it with their first offseason pod since the Indians first round drubbing to the Astros.
