"Fighting With My Family" - Interview with Stephen Merchant

    Movies for Adults Interview Series

Welcome to The Not Old Better Show, I'm Paul Vogelzang and this is show #325

As part of our Art of Living, Movies for Adults series, today's show reviews the new film, Fighting With My Family, and we'll be speaking with writer and director Stephen Merchant. Stephen Merchant you'll recall brought us, along with Ricky Gervais, UK's excellent series "The Office." So, truly comedy genius at work here.

I will tell your right up front, I've never been a huge fan of wrestling. Even as a kid, I found the sport — or, at least, the version presented by the WWE bizarre, noisy and unbearably silly, fake and even ostentatious, and too theatrical for sport. That hasn't changed. I still think it's weird.

But, the film Fighting with My Family, based on a true story, and originally from the 2012 documentary in which the Bevis family from Norwich, England, where we are invited into their home to show us just how much wrestling meant to them. They all wrestled; mom, dad, the kids — everyone.

This is an excellent film, well done by Stephen Merchant, and perfect for your Friday night, tonight, or weekend viewing. Stephen Merchant's family romance not only inspires laughs but leaves us churned up. Once trapped in Ricky Gervais's shadow, the gentle giant tiptoes into the ring, lays siege and makes us see stars.

I hope you enjoy the film as much as I did, and now let's welcome to the program, Stephen Merchant.

My thanks to Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures, Inc., Stephen Merchant, and EPK for all the great assistance in putting this interview, review and show together for you, my Not Old Better audience.

The Not Old Better Show…Talk about better.

Enjoy the movie, Fighting With My Family, out now at theaters everywhere.

And strong leg and hip muscles help to reduce the risk of falls, a cause of considerable disability among older adults. So, how to keep motivated and aim to participate in resistance training at least two days per week, making sure to exercise all major muscle groups through a full range of motion. To help maintain your mobility and range of motion and decrease your risk of injury.

Sabrena Jo, from the American Council on Exercise will explain how best to do this, why we need to prioritize this type of exercise into our schedule, and to look at your time ahead as a chance to be an active senior with an opportunity to do things you have never done before. Most of all, enjoy yourself!

McCarrick Defrocked - Interview with Dr. Chad Pecknold

Art of Living News Maker Interview Series

Welcome to The Not Old Better Show, I'm Paul Vogelzang, and this is episode #320.

Certainly a difficult day for all people of faith. The subject of Theodore McCarrick, a former cardinal and archbishop of Washington, has been stripped of all rights and obligations as a member of the Catholic clergy. This has been quite a topic in our home.

In his capacity as archbishop of Washington, both popes and presidents took advice from Theodore McCarrick. No more. Officially, Theodore McCarrick has been defrocked, or laicized, a rare and severe penalty after allegations of sexual misconduct against the former cardinal were proved credible last summer.

We're speaking today with Dr Chad Pecknold. Dr. Pecknold is Prof. Of Theology at Catholic University of America, and Chairman, Academy of Catholic Theology. We'll be speaking with Dr. Pecknold to address some of these issues of faith, morality and the various intersections thereof. This is a difficult subject, and right or wrong, clergy, as representatives of God are, of course, held to a higher standard. one that no one can be satisfied by condemnation of another, least of all me. There are questions of responsibility, future of the church, and dignity.

But, the song is sung by comedian Sarah Silverman, and it titled, "A Place Called Slaughter Race." It's a funny song…I think you'll enjoy it.

But, now that it's February we are only weeks away from the biggest award show of the year with the 2019 Oscars coming up.

Since it's the biggest award show in the entertainment world—especially in the film world—winning one of these Oscar statues is an honor like no other. Winning the title of Best Picture however is the ultimate award when it comes to movies and so far there have been a lot of noteworthy recipients.

We will learn about 2019 Best Picture nominees, and all other Oscar related behind the scenes stories from our guest today, Noah Gittell, who'll be at the Smithsonian Associates program, Feb. 21, 2019. So, we're going to get festive, and cast our votes for the winners in the many categories, and Noah Gittell will share much more, including prizes for the most accurate predictions!
