Trans Man finds his ‘faith’ in Activism (TEO) Aug 12, 2023

How a Christian transgender man increased his faith by taking the fight over LGBTQ+ rights to religious schools, USA Today, By John FritzeMegan Smith, July 24, 2023,
    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2023/07/24/christian-lgbtq-discrimination-religious-schools/70383458007/
This segment is about discrimination towards a trans man who finds a deeper connection to his faith through activism. Zayn had applied to a Christian educational institution, and was denied for being trans, he has been battling them in court, but was ultimately denied.
U.S District Court Ann Aiken dismissed Silva's case in January, Ann Aiken was appointed by Bill Clinton. He wrote that the exception appeared to be related to the government's objective of accommodating religious exercise and that Congress did not appear to have discriminatory intent when it approved the language.
But LGBTQ protections are not guaranteed at all. This is a distinction that the religious hide behind when they discriminate against LGBTQ people, and it is entirely legal. We're seeing the government actually saying they can discriminate because their religion says that they can, their god, their belief is saying that you are an abomination therefore they are allowed to discriminate against you because it would be an infringement on their religious beliefs.Title IX does bar certain discrimination but not for this. I know the Biden administration is making an attempt to rectify that but they're facing an uphill battle on the court.
Even without the whole bigotry casting its ugly fingers on every aspect of this story it isrepulsive. It highlights a real problem, over four billion dollars a year of taxpayers money goes to religious institutions.
One of the simplest ways to resolve this is by getting Federal funding out of all religious schools. Let's not put a single dime into religious schools. If they want to have something religious, pay for it without the taxpayers.
One major issue with more liberal interpretations of Christianity is it oftentimes gives a layer of legitimacy to really horrible thing. Most of us come from religious background, we're hardwired into that guilt, guilt is part the package.
Unfortunately, in a pattern that we see time and again with victims of abuse, Zayn has clung to his abuser god even more. Religion ingrains you with guilt, fear, and self-loathing. So why not accept the abuse and just keep coming back for more?
Zayn specifically said that because he and his community are being discriminated against has caused him to fall back on his faith even more. This is the same rhetoric that was said about the civil rights movement in the 1950s and 60s, people were marching, singing we shall overcome, keep your eyes on the prize, and god's gonna work it out.
Being so wrapped up in your indoctrination allows this whole talking point to a be an abusive point.
What Zayn went through is absolutely horrendous, the story about getting that call where he wasn't accepted with the excuse of “we appreciate your honesty but no, stay away from us” was painful.
To Zayn and other LGBTQIA activists who are pushing for inclusivity in Christian Schools so they can be ordained and receive accolades. Good luck and a bit of advice, you think that you are running on faith but you don't need faith. You need a whole team of Thurgood Marshals.

Science 'supersedes' creationism, Einstein Said! (Tim) Aug 11, 2023
Show notes The Non-Prophets 22.31.3 2023-08-02 featuring Cynthia Cynthia McDonald, Infidel 64, Timothy Bethel and Teo El ATeo
Science 'supersedes' creationism, Einstein tells religious students in newly revealed letter, Life Science via Yahoo News, By Harry Baker, July 21, 2023
    https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/science-supersedes-creationism-einstein-tells-165250255.html
This was a letter that Einstein sent to a teacher has recently been put up for sale for a hundred and twenty five thousand dollars. A religious studies teacher had written Einstein and asked if he could tell them basically his thoughts on God and how they coexists with science. Einstein responded saying that science does not refute the religious attitude but in a certain sense replaces and supersedes it.
He also said that as long as the stories in the Bible have been taken literally it was obvious what kind of Faith was expected from the readers, but if you interpret the Bible metaphorically it is nothing but stories.
When asked about God in another popular letter, he answered that he believed in Spinoza's God. If you know anything about Spinoza's God that is just a neutral way of saying I don't believe in a God. Einstein was well known for rejecting the idea of a personal God.
I don't think anyone stopped attending church because they learned about Einstein in school for many of us, that was the Bible.
Einstein confirms and reiterates an important point that the goal of science isn't to refute religion as many religious people think. Many religious people see science as antithetical to their faith and as an enemy or something they have to oppose. We see this all the time, apologists accusing atheists or non-believers of scientism, or having faith in things like the theory of evolution.
It just goes to show that religious people often see progress as the enemy. There is a large contingent of people who see such things as a theory of evolution as the devil's attempt to get people to lose faith in God instead of a true verified confirmed factual theory based on scientific evidence.
But people still act as if atheists who stick with the scientific method as if they are using science as a religion. No, science is not a religion and atheism is not a religion.
Nathan Raab is the head curator selling the letter said ”Not only was this letter written Albert Einstein one of the greatest figures and scientists of all times, it speaks to the ongoing powerful debate between science and religion”. There really is no debate at all, this is not a dichotomy. Religion may be literature or even sociological in nature but it's not even remotely comparable to rigorous science. Religion tells stories, science observes and tests to find quantifiable data.
The truth is that whether Einstein believed in 20 gods or no gods, it really doesn't have any bearing on atheists.
It does a disservice to science when they are treated as equals, myths do not deserve a seat at the adult table.

Alabama Flips SCOTUS the Bird! (Glenn) Aug 09, 2023

Alabama Republicans refuse to draw a second Black congressional district in defiance of Supreme Court, NBC News, By Jane C. Timm, July 21, 2023
    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/alabama-gop-refuses-draw-second-black-district-supreme-court-order-rcna94715
What will be the implications of Alabama’s State Legislature completely disregarding this Supreme Court rulings, and instead passing a map that does not meet the two black majority districts? Will this set precedence for other states to do the same? One of the major impacts is on US House of Representatives, this is one way the GOP has held onto power in spite of being the minority.
Gerrymandering is when a state legislature draws up district lines to deliberately dilute groups of a populace that they are not aligned with. They are basically trying to maneuver a vote the way the party in power stays in power. They draw lines in areas in order to have result in Republican candidate winning.
Over 25% of Alabama citizens are African-American, and it has seven congressional districts. But it seems that the tireless efforts of their legislative body could only devise a way to create one majority-Black district. And a second with a 40% black population.
Using 15 previous elections as a sample, there was only one election where the numbers support a second black majority result. It’s an election where the Republican candidate was a twice-removed for misconduct state Justice who was accused of picking up and sexually assaulting underage girls.
States like Texas, Florida, Mississippi, and Georgia come immediately to mind, the usual suspects. Louisiana had the same issue, but they actually got their lawsuit decided in their favor.
There was a time when reactionaries would try to see how much they could get away with when under a Supreme Court Order, they would try to just go to the edge of the line. A bit like kids in the backseat of a car on a long ride.
Maybe free vacations, use of a yacht, and free tuition for family members just doesn’t buy you what it used to. Unfortunately there are bad actors on the Supreme Court have demonstrated time and again that they don't really care about the rule of law. They care about promoting an agenda.
The large majority of people in Alabama aren't talking about this. They're so ingrained into thinking that this is normal and how things should be. To them addressing this issue with alarm is frightening to them. In their view that's just called leftism, or wokism, which is something that their churches have taught them is their enemy.
The Voting Rights act of 1965 was one of the most critical piece of legislation to guarantee the voting rights of minorities in the US. It empowered what the 14th and 15th were created to do, but lacked the teeth. This is what actually forced many of the critical changes in the South. However, the voters Rights Act was gutted in 2013.
This is not 1953, nor 1853, we are in 2023. Unfortunately, three-fifths mentality is alive and well in Alabama.

Black People Benefited from Slavery? WT(F)lorida? (Cynthia) Aug 07, 2023

New Florida standards teach students that some Black people benefited from slavery because it taught useful skills, NBC News, By Antonio Planas, June 20, 2023
    https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/new-florida-standards-teach-black-people-benefited-slavery-taught-usef-rcna95418
A new Florida standard teaches students that some black people benefited from slavery because it taught useful skills. The stop woke act requires Florida teachers to promote the view that black people benefited from slavery because they could learn skills that they could use in life in order for them to actually earn a living.
We could speculate all day about why they do this, but the most obvious reason seems to be they don't like the idea of dealing with the oppression of minorities, women, LGBTQ people anytime they're faced with one of these groups being oppressed.
They have to try to soften it and make statements about how it's really not that bad and certainly not as bad as these groups are making out to be. They claim these groups just want attention and they want more rights than other groups.
Religious people love to act like they're the most suppressed people on Earth all the time. Bemoaning the idea that they can't even go into a Target because they sell kids t-shirts with LGBTQ on it.
The goal of the new Florida standards is to completely undermine and devalue the experiences of slaves and the lasting impact slavery has had on the African-American community. They hide behind words like truth, but the reality is they want to create a narrative that the American slavery of black people wasn't that bad, and that it actually helped a lot of black people.
Unfortunately, we have this group of people who they don't really want to think about the issues. They're so preconditioned against this woke agenda, that the anti-woke act sounds great to them.
If you believe this view that slaves were singing happily in the field and try to pretend this is some type of trade program where they were going to end up with a lot of money and a great life at the end, you are being patently dishonest. You can't get a personal benefit if you're a slave for life.
The violent indiscriminate massacre of African-Americans in Tulsa, Atlanta, and DC is treated as if there was some sort of parity, as if black people were also actively perpetuating violence in these events. Hundreds of people died in these massacres, but we could not bother to even count them. It is irresponsible to ignore that the people who died were guilty only of being black, and this fact is being whitewashed.
It is telling that out of sixteen names listed as “beneficiaries”, only four of them were confirmed to ever having been a slave. You would think that their “comprehensive and rigorous instruction on African American History” could at least come up with a better list. Anthony Johnson was used as an example of a slave that benefited, but in actuality he was never a slave he was an indentured servant. Another was born 20 years after slavery was abolished.
William Allen, the lead revisionist on this rewrite of history used the good old “a few isolated expressions without context.” excuse to defend their work. Haven’t we all heard that one before?
If that is the best they can do, then perhaps they should go back to school themselves. But not in Florida.
