What is going on down there in Alabama? Is Alabama just trying to be the poor cousin of Florida or Texas?
A Wisconsin-based non-profit, the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), has urged Snead State Community College in Alabama to stop holding prayers at staff events and including religious messages in official communications.
“A concerned Snead State Community College employee has reported that you have been imposing your personal religious beliefs onto Snead State employees and treating Snead State as a Christian college rather than the secular public college it is,” the letter from Staff Attorney Christopher Line reads. “They feel that they are being forced to bow their head and participate because not doing so would require them to expose their personal beliefs and potentially be subject to retribution.”
When the president of the college is leading prayers before meals and meetings, he’s crossed over the line because he represents the school itself. Each year, Joe Whitmore also presents a “guiding bible verse” for the staff. Joe sounds like a lot of fun at parties. Everybody loves a good moralizer.
The FFRF contends that such practices violate the First Amendment's establishment clause, calling for government neutrality in matters of religion. The organization has a history of advocacy for separation of church and state, including cases in Alabama.
Most people in the USA that don’t think we should keep a separation between religion and government think it's to keep religion out of government. But it was put there for the opposite reason, to keep the government out of religion. Our founders watched as Europe was ablaze with religious wars.
Can you imagine the chaos it would cause if the “official national church” changed every 4 to 8 years? You know what, you don’t have to imagine! Just go read some 16th & 17th European history!
Snead started out as a religious school in 1898. However, it became part of the Alabama Community college system in 1967. It’s not 1898, not even 1967, it is 2023. Even in Alabama.

Abuse survivor support groups in Western Australia have sounded an alarm regarding the frequent use of "permanent stays" by churches and institutions to halt claims for justice by survivors of sexual abuse.
Advocacy groups argue that permanent stays are disproportionately applied, especially in cases involving deceased perpetrators or institutions that failed to investigate abuse allegations properly. They urge legislative limits on stay applications, emphasizing the need to prevent institutions from exploiting these delays to the detriment of survivors' quest for justice.
Religious institutions claim the moral high ground but their actions and their histories are anything but. In fact, these institutions are characteristic of the most heinous of offenses known to humankind, those which target children and in a sexual manner at that. Catholicism is not alone in this. The Hindu and Muslim also have histories of child sexual abuse which continue to permeate their societies. For some reason, no matter the culture, no matter the part of the world we hail from, societies tend to grant clemency to religion, for no good reason. Why?
Defenders of religious child molesters, need to explain why it is that they prioritize fantasy and magic over human decency.
An environment in which the clergy are at the top of the food chain existing under a system in which they face no punishments for their transgressions breeds more misdeeds through treacherous and hypocritical behavior.
This is not just an Australian issue; this is a global issue. In the US, 33 states have a clergy loophole, which exempt them from the same laws that require, teachers, physicians and psychiatrists from reporting child abuse. Religious authorities are protected from legal disclosure. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
A recent investigation into Illinois Catholic clergy found that 450 of them molested over 2K children between 1950 and 2021; similar statistics exist in Colorado where the Archdiocese of Colorado Springs still employees a repeat abuser - father William Martinez. In the last 80 years , 150 clergy abused 600 children in Maryland, and a recent investigation into French catholicism found that 333,000 children were abused over the last 80 years.
When will enough be enough? When will you face the facts and acknowledge that your made-up gods are not coming; they’re not going to fix this! The religion is fake and is nothing more than a way for the people it gives power to, to stay in power without being accountable to anyone. This oath of celibacy they take, this unchecked power, fabricated moral high-ground that conveniently only fits their needs all work together to create a situation where the weak and vulnerable will become exploited.
Stop supporting them, stop giving money to them, stop subjecting your children to them and open your fucking eyes.

Nebraska preacher Hank Kunneman's latest fundraising twist involves an urgent plea to buy land for his ministry, claiming divine guidance. Initially seeking $3 million dollars within a week, Kunneman later backpedaled, citing divine advice that the purchase wasn't necessary.
This abrupt change left many wondering about his true intentions. Some may find this tale amusing, but it's a concerning example of religious grifting, with Kunneman's congregation potentially being taken advantage of for his financial gain.
Hank’s message seemed to be keep on believing what I say, don’t let your eye’s and brains deceive you. If it appears I am wrong, god is testing you. Just keep giving! Makes you wonder what he spikes the communion wine with. Why do people accept this kind of thing from religious leaders? Would they accept it from their friends, or siblings, or their employer?
How is it that his congregation doesn't figure this out as the scam that it is? Do his followers really think he is anointed by God even after he’s been wrong so many times?
Does God really care who buys what real estate? Does God care about political and economic borders?
God even gives his prophecies with right-wing propaganda baked directly in. Beware those Chinese and their conniving ways, being used by the devil to buy our land. Does God also hate the Chinese like a good part of his right wing followers do?
Did god change his mind, or was he just wrong? One thing is for sure, some very desperate and mentally abused people who have obviously suffered some harsh indoctrination or feel like they have no other options, have given a lot of money to a con artist.
What kind of real estate deal was SO BAD that even God couldn’t fix it? Was there an open gate to Hell on the property or something like that preventing the deal from going through? Just can’t imagine what kind of problem there was with the property that even God couldn’t fix it. Did it have a bunch of old rusty iron chariots littered all over it?
Why couldn’t god just help them through their plight instead of using a repeat grifter to collect money, then change his mind on a ground-breaking and imperative real-estate deal? We all know what was wrong with the property, it was more money than Kunneman was unable to raise in time.
Hank’s connection to god seems a bit faulty. He has spouted all sorts of untrue predictions. Bad election prophesy seems to be his personal forte. Hank’s rendition of the Christian god being played by Loki the trickster god is mind-boggling.
God routinely changes his mind in Hank world. His god does things just create doubt, then he piles more doubt on top. He wants you to fail. Hank’s god is about as decisive as a 3 year-old in a candy store.
This is honestly just sad, terribly unfortunate and reflects the worst of us as people - those who become predators target the weak and vulnerable; which is how religion thrives.

Former President Donald Trump's family members are reacting differently to his ongoing legal troubles. While Tiffany Trump and Donald Trump Jr show subtle support, Ivanka Trump enjoys life in Florida, Barron remains out of the spotlight, and Eric Trump has taken an unexpected turn.
Eric recently engaged with self-proclaimed prophets, including Julie Green and Clay Clark, in a video shared on YouTube. The group is called ReAwaken America, and they spread QAnon conspiracy theories, COVID-19 misinformation, and election lies. They are a full on misinformation campaign machine.
Eric's unconventional approach highlights the diverse responses within the Trump family to their father's legal woes. But we can't really expect much from anybody in the Trump family, they've shown their willingness to put the Republic below their personal desires, needs, and greed.
Julie is known for her strong support of Trump, but her predictions that claim God told her the four indictments against Trump would "explode" and "all fall apart.", have raised eyebrows.
She has said “God's on his side, and he's called him his David" in regards to Donald Trump.David is called God’s favorite in the bible. God has a type, a womanizer, a cheat, and a liar. David and Trump sound like the same person.
Julie also claimed that Trump will soon face another indictment. On that “prophecy” she will likely be right for a change. Even a false prophet gets it right sometimes.
One thing that allows these type of people to continue to get away with this type of behavior is the fact that they're so insular they surround themselves with people who feel the same things, who say the same things, who believe the same things. When one person says something there is no fact check, it's immediately accepted as truth.
They're in these echo chambers getting this recurring confirmation because the legal system, the Supreme Court, is not really working in the way that it's supposed to be. There are no standards that are consistent.
They are people who are making hard financial choices who are giving their money to charlatans, to people who want a better jet. Their good faith is being taken advantage of by this grifter which just makes it that much more despicable. She is leading people to harm themselves and to actually harm others.
