On this episode of the Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Jon Peters and his daughter Gracie about getting future generations involved in outdoor activities. Gracie is a nine year old spitfire of an “outdoorsgirl”. She loves naming both her weapons and the animals that she pursues. Gracie decided a year ago that she wanted to hunt. Although her parents never thought it would last, it has quickly become her number one passion. Gracie has been covering her wall with mounts, her shelves with hog skulls and sharing stories from the field with her friends ever since. She is now a year older, has built two rifles, harvested two deer and a hog. She has been on several well known hunting media platforms and has big plans for the future. Grace hopes to connect with a buck this year, and is looking forward to starting archery. If you are interested in what hunting can mean to future generations, this episode is for you!

On this episode of the Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Andrew Berndt. Andrew is a fellow Wisconsin native that has been hunting for 13 years. Andrew started a page called Oak Tree Dreams to share about his passion for the outdoors, to connect with fellow hunters and to encourage people to quit deer shaming. Whether he’s chasing deer during the fall, turkeys in the spring, or watching ducks drop into a spread in the winter Andrew loves being in the field. He started fishing as a kid and spends a lot of summer sitting on the shore or in a boat trying to land a fish. The outdoors means everything to Andrew and he’s always looking to improve his skills as an outdoorsman and the habitat in which he hunts.

Hunting Elk In Eastern State Feb 17, 2022

On this episode of the Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Jacob Coons all about eastern elk hunting including price, harvest statistics, draw odds and everything to expect when hunting a reintroduced species.

Jacob shares stories of last year's late season cow elk hunt in Kentucky and this year's bull elk hunt in Pennsylvania. “Hunting elk east of the Mississippi is unique, interesting and quite the adventure! A lot of hunters don’t put in for these draws.” Jacob shares his insights and helps knock down some of the perceived barriers for those that have never put in for eastern elk tags. Jacob enjoys using his history in education and love for analytics to create online 101 level courses for those interested in learning more about hunting the east. Jacob has created a KY elk hunt planner and a PA elk hunt planner that will be available in May.

On this episode of the Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Holt Watson, an avid outdoorsman from Minnesota. Holt grew up in the St. Croix river Valley near Stillwater MN where he fished for walleyes on the St Croix River as well as various lakes in both MN and WI. Deer hunting and turkey hunting in both MN and WI quickly became passions of Holt’s. Holt is now a waterfowl fanatic and has been guiding snow goose hunts in Arkansas for the past 10 seasons. Dan and Holt talk about all the outdoor opportunities the Great Lakes region has to offer as well as some tips and tricks for chasing after snow geese. Clancy grew up following his dad and brother into the outdoors as they chased after pheasants and caught fish. They travelled a lot during Clancy’s childhood which allowed him to live and experience the outdoors in places like Colorado, Florida and Oklahoma. He is currently living his dream on his own property in Oklahoma but always looks forward to the next adventure. Dan and Clancy discuss what hunting the midwest is like and how they could never just pursue one species.

Jim has been hunting and fishing since age 7 and just finished his 51st consecutive deer season hunting on the same 200 acres. Needless to say, he is a wealth of information when it comes to deer hunting in the north east, trapping, and many other outdoor activities. Jim and Dan discuss how New York gets misrepresented and Dan learns a few tips and tricks for trapping and preparing furs. Jim shares stories from all his years hunting including some from this season when he hunted 30 days in a row.

Chad has been connected to the outdoors for as long as he can remember. He started fishing and rabbit and squirrell hunting at a young age with his grandpa. That led him into turkey and deer hunting around age 9 and he has been completely consumed with the outdoors ever since. Chad and Dan discover that they have a lot in common from their love for Mathews bows to their choice of Christmas presents. This is one of those good ol’ bs sessions that could have lasted 6 hours.
