On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Chandler Saultz, a die hard waterfowler from the heart of Missouri.

Chandler grew up on Lake of the Ozarks hunting and fishing on his family farm. He started hunting when he was 9 years old, waterfowling at 18 and now at 31 he enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, friends, and bringing new people into the sport. In college he lived with a call maker/waterfowl guide and that’s when his passion for waterfowl began. He is now a teacher and coach in a small school district in Hickory County where he has been teaching and coaching for 12 years. When Chandler’s not coaching you can find him hunting or scouting for waterfowl. Chandler is an avid waterfowler and bow hunter. He has 2 boys (7 and 8 years old) and a little girl due may 22nd. Dan and Chandler discuss their extreme differences in success and technique while chasing waterfowl in the Show Me state.

A True Pennsylvania Woodsman May 02, 2022

On this episode of The nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with fellow Sportsmen’s Empire podcaster and host of Pennsylvania Woodsman Podcast Mitchell Shirk about his love for podcasting, hunting and habitat.

Mitchell has been tagging along on hunting trips since he was 4 years old. Around 10 he was able to start hunting himself. He would hunt and fish for anything with an open season but as time went on he started to focus on archery hunting whitetail deer and PA big game. Mitchell grew up hunting a 280 acre private land tract where he learned about quality deer management and property manipulation. He also got into hunting large tracts of mountainous public land in northern PA. His goal is to learn as much as possible each year, and help share his experiences with as many people as possible.

Mitchell went to school for Biology and got a B.S. in Ecology w/ Minor in Environmental Science. He is currently an Agronomist at a private agricultural consulting company called Rosetree Consulting in Southeast Pennsylvania. He not only helps growers maximize yield potential and profitability, but also translates farming practices into food plot practices.

Bowfishing and Waterfowl Hunting Apr 28, 2022

On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Evan McElyea, a die hard waterfowler and bow fisherman from Michigan. Dan and Evan discuss everything from banded birds to shooting goldfish.

Evan is from a small town in southeast Michigan. He grew up hunting and fishing and always wanted to make it a career. He and his partner currently run a guide service in Michigan called Northern Flight Outdoors, where they specialize in hunting ducks and geese in dry fields. If he’s not waterfowl hunting he is in a treestand hunting whitetails, ice fishing for big walleye on Saginaw Bay or taking the boat out bowfishing. It’s safe to say that Evan is an all around outdoorsman and he loves to pursue anything and everything Michigan has to offer.

On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with fellow Wisconsinite and recent Elk convert Ethan Sullivan about everything from chasing turkey and deer in Wisconsin to connecting with Colorado bulls during rifle season.

Ethan grew up in a small town in rural Wisconsin. Hemstarted out hunting with his parents at a very young age and now has 4 kids of his own that he loves getting involved in the outdoors. Ethan is a welder by trade but the rest of his free time is taken up with bucks, turkey and fish. Ethan has been branching out to several new states and connected with Dan over text as they were chasing after bulls less than 100 miles from each other. Ethan tries to convert Dan into a die-hard turkey hunter and the 2 of them recap their early years in the elk woods.

Wisconsin Hunting and Fishing Roundtable Apr 21, 2022

On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with a major league lineup of guests from America’s Dairyland. Paul Wagner, Shaun Ridder and Erik Tasker join Dan to talk about everything from bass fishing and whitetail deer hunting to playing in the MLB and winning CMA Broadcast awards.

Paul Wagner is a current sports radio host and former Milwaukee Brewers & Pittsburg Pirates Pitcher. He may be the old guy in the crew but "Wags" has hunted a lot of the midwest and calls the western Milwaukee suburbs home. Wags hunts deer and turkey and loves chasing Muskie on the Chippewa flowage.

Shaun Ridder is the guy that makes it all happen. First and foremost a fisherman, he entered his first kayak fishing tourney this year and has recently been converted to bowhunting. He’s a lover of all things outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, etc. Ridder is the “techy” person of the trio. He is also attempting to take his first turkey with a bow this year.

Erik Tasker is a guy who didn't get his hunting license until he was 21. That didn’t slow him down at all though. For the past 15 years he has been a diehard bowhunter. Tasker also loves joining the orange army for the annual gun deer hunt and chasing after bass from a kayak. He got his passion from his dad and uncles that have hunted the same public land in Eau Claire county for 45 years.

Big Deer Everywhere Apr 18, 2022

On the 100th episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Brandon Ward about chasing giant whitetail from state to state.

Brandon grew up traveling with his dad all over the country and the world hunting big whitetails and turkeys. Early on his dad got him into a lot of youth hunts which ignited his passion for the outdoors. Brandon was fortunate to harvest big deer at a young age. At 17 Brandon joined the Marines and started taking marines on hunts for the first time. After leaving the Marines Brandon became a guide in Pike co Illinois. After 2 seasons of guiding in Illinois Brandon now lives in Iowa and chases some of the biggest bucks that this country has to offer.

Guiding For Exotics Apr 14, 2022

On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Austin Pressy, an exotic hunting guide from Texas. Austin shares about his guiding business and the seemingly unlimited hunting opportunities that Texas has to offer.

Austin started hunting with his dad and grandpa when he was 4-5 years old. He co-owns Wicked 7 Outdoors, a guiding service where he pairs hunters with landowners to give them the best experience at a great price. Austin started guiding a few years ago to help promote proper land management and to teach new hunters the ins and outs of hunting. Austin's favorite activity is helping kids find success on their first hunt. Dan and Austin discuss the big game species that are in Texas, how to prepare an animal for a shoulder mount and their desire to live/hunt in Alaska.

Getting Hooked on Texas Fishing Apr 11, 2022

On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks to Landon Rowlett, a podcaster and avid fly fisherman from Texas. Dan picks his brain on what makes Texas a great destination for all sorts of anglers.

Landon is a fly fisherman that likes to chase after a wide variety of fish. Every year he plans a destination fly fishing trip with his friends that takes him to locations around the world. Landon has spent time managing a fly fishing shop, and being a whitewater/backpacking guide. Landon currently lives in San Antonio where he is within hours of a wide variety of fishing opportunities. He is passionate about introducing new people into the sport that he loves and runs a podcast called Honeyhole Hangout. Dan and Landon discuss fishing destinations, techniques and the possibility of Dan heading to Texas to see what Lonestar fishing is all about.

Tales From A Game Warden Apr 07, 2022

On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks to Ty Runyan, a game warden and lifelong outdoorsman from Oklahoma. Dan and Ty share stories from the field and talk about encounters between outdoorsmen and law enforcement.

Ty was raised in southern Oklahoma on cattle ranches. He grew up shed hunting, fishing and working outdoors. He quickly became an avid hunter and fisherman. Ty won 2 national proficiency awards through FFA that really sparked his love for wildlife and conservation. As early as junior high Ty had made the decision that he wanted to pursue a career as an Oklahoma Game Warden. Ty worked for McGee Creek State park while in high school and got his first taste of law enforcement. He then went to Murray State College majoring in wildlife conservation and criminal justice. Ty completed his Oklahoma law enforcement certificate through the collegiate officer program while at Murray State. Shortly after he started working at local police departments while finishing his Bachelor's Degree. He then went to work for the Oklahoma department of corrections until he was able to get hired as a Game Warden.

The Transition from Snow Geese to Turkeys Apr 04, 2022

On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks to Holt Watson, an avid outdoorsman that loves chasing snow geese from the Great Lakes down to the waterfowl Mecca known as Arkansas.

Holt grew up in the St. Croix river Valley fishing for walleyes on the St. Croix river as well as various lakes in MN and WI. His passion for things like chasing whitetail and ducks quickly grew and he eventually started guiding snow goose hunts in Arkansas and has done so for the past 10 years. Holt just finished his snow goose season and is looking forward to the impending turkey season to kick off. When Holt isn’t chasing waterfowl his day job picks back up as a heavy equipment operator. He is currently engaged and has wisely set the date of the wedding for June (no hunting seasons). Dan gives Holt an opportunity to turn him into a die hard turkey hunter. Let’s see how it goes!
