TNR 2/23/26 - Hour 1 | USA Hockey GRABS GOLD! Mark Pope MELTS DOWN After Auburn Loss! Feb 23, 2026

The United States Men’s Hockey team won gold for only the third time in Winter Olympics history Sunday. The 2-1 OT win caps an incredible Olympics for the US men’s and women’s teams.

The Auburn Tigers found themselves on Joe Lunardi’s NCAA Tournament cut line Saturday morning, that was one of the stories leading into their game with the Kentucky Wildcats, making it feel even more impactful. Auburn Basketball fought from behind in the second half to secure a 75-74 win and break a five game losing skid.

The game was not without controversy on both sides as Kentucky Basketball was the beneficiary of two questionable fouls at the end of the first half while Auburn benefited from a call at the end of the game. It was the final call that had Mark Pope steaming after his news conference.

The Alabama Crimson Tide got a 90-83 road win at LSU Saturday. Alabama Basketball had five players in double figures en route to the win. This came on the heels of Alabama being left out of the NCAA selection committee’s top 16 teams. Committee co-chair Martin Newton indicated Alabama and Arkansas are just on the outside looking in.

The NCAA Selection Committee released their Top 16 seeds just before Saturday’s games. Only Florida and Vanderbilt were an-momma the 16, yet KenPom has the SEC still rated as the best conference in the nation. Which is more accurate?

Alabama Athletics is bringing in $147 million in operating revenue and spending $82 million—yet the Tide still feels behind in NIL compared to programs like Texas, Ohio State, Texas A&M, LSU, and Texas Tech. In this episode, we break down the numbers, the priorities, and why some fans believe Greg Byrne must make tough decisions before Alabama loses its edge in college football. We dig into where the money comes from—ticket sales ($42M), contributions ($53M), media rights ($28M), postseason ($13M)—and where it goes—head coach ($11M), assistants ($14M+), support staff ($7M), facilities ($7.5M), game expenses ($7.5M+), recruiting ($4M+). Then we get into the biggest debate: Title IX in a new era of NIL and potential revenue-sharing, including the idea of Alabama having $20.5 million to “play with” under a new model. The conversation gets heated when we look at the losses across non-revenue sports—women’s basketball (nearly -$5M), gymnastics (-$2M+), baseball (-$4.4M+), plus eye-opening spending gaps like women’s rowing and women’s track & field. The Auburn Tigers fall 91-85 to Mississippi State in Starkville Wednesday night. The loss is the fifth in a row for Auburn Basketball who gave up 35 first half points to Josh Hubbard and still fought back to take the lead. The bright spot in the loss was the return of Keyshawn Hall who played all 40 minutes and had a double-double with 29 points and 10 rebounds.
