Show notes
Former Alabama national championship quarterback Jake Coker and co-host Mick Gillispie are back together for another episode of Last Call, featuring Alabama football analysis, unforgettable travel stories and plenty of off-the-rails conversation.
The biggest question in Tuscaloosa remains the Alabama quarterback competition. With offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb expected to make a decision after the Crimson Tide’s second scrimmage, Jake looks back at his own 2015 quarterback battle and explains why allowing the competition to linger can damage morale, disrupt offensive chemistry and prevent a team from developing its identity.
Jake and Mick also discuss why Alabama must establish a physical, dominant running game to compete for an SEC championship and College Football Playoff berth. They evaluate the Crimson Tide’s running back depth, the importance of pass protection and what separates talented players from the backs who earn meaningful snaps.
The conversation also turns to Kalen DeBoer’s challenge of following Nick Saban, the standard Saban established at Alabama and why defensive coordinator Kane Wommack deserves credit for keeping the Crimson Tide competitive in difficult games.
Plus, Mick shares stories from a turbulent trip to Key West, Jake recalls a frightening Blackhawk helicopter flight and the guys discuss Jake’s upcoming family vacation to Disney World.
