"Captain Marvel" Mar 09, 2019

Show notes

For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Jacey Aldredge, Cody Dericks, DeAnn Knighton & Danilo Castro. Together, we discuss Masrvel's latest addition to the MCU, "Captain Marvel" starring Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law and more! How does this lead into "Avengers: Endgam?" How does it function as a standalone film and as an origin film? What about the film's recent controversy surrounding the toxic online fandom? We discuss all of this and more with an additional spoiler section towards the end of the show to talk about the film's twists. Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... Interview With "The Hummingbird Project" Director/Writer, Kim Nguyen Mar 08, 2019

Show notes

Kim Nguyen is a Canadian director and writer who gained a lot of attention for his Academy Award nominated foreign language film "War Witch" in 2012. He has made a few films since then but his latest "The Hummingbird Project" is his most accessible and biggest yet, featuring an A-list cast that includes Jesse Eisenberg, Alexander Skarsgard & Salma Hayek. The 45 year old filmmaker was kind enough to sit with me for a few minutes to talk about his latest film. Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... "Crash" Mar 07, 2019

Show notes

THIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL REVIEW. Please check out the full review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture For this month's Patreon Last Best Picture review on the Next Best Picture Podcast, I am joined by Josh Parham, Dan Bayer, Cody Dericks and two Patreon guests, Daniel Brilliant & Andrew Puhr. In the aftermath of "Green Book" winning Best Picture and being called the worst Best Picture winner since "Crash," it almost feels too coincidental that Paul Haggis' film on race relations in contemporary Los Angeles won the poll for this month. We have a lot to say on this one resulting in a final recording time of 1:45:00 on our thoughts on the film, what it gets right versus what it gets wrong, the performances, writing, editing and of course, its historic Best Picture win over the critical favorite that year "Brokeback Mountain."
