"The Nightingale" Aug 06, 2019

Show notes

For this week's second podcast review, Dan Bayer and I, along with guest Valerie Complex, take a look at one of the year's most brutal, polarizing and thought-provoking films, Jennifer Kent's follow-up to "The Babadook," titled "The Nightingale." The film stars newcomers Aisling Franciosi and Baykali Ganambarr, along with Sam Claflin in a role that's unlike anything he has ever done before. The movie has received a considerable amount of buzz for its sexual violence and brutality, but what did we all think? Tune in below to find out. "The Hateful Eight" Aug 01, 2019

Show notes

THIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL REVIEW. Please check out the full review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture One of Tarantino's more divided films, there has been a lot of debate about the "The Hateful Eight's" style, its decision to shoot in 70mm for a mostly claustrophobic setting, its characters, themes and more. With an almost three hour running time and a few years to look back and reflect, this revisit gave us some new found perspective on Tarantino's whodunit western. Joining me for this 2015 retrospective podcast review is Josh Parham and Danilo Castro. Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... Show notes

In 2014, Jennifer Kent came on the scene with the indie horror film "The Babadook," which won her a tremendous amount of critical acclaim and is regarded today as a horror masterpiece. Now, 5 year later, she is back with "The Nightingale," an equally horrifying film that explores themes of brutality, compassion, history and more! Jennifer was kind enough to chat with us about her latest film, why you should still seek it out despite the buzz around the film's violence and its awe-inspiring performances. Interview With "Luce" Director/Writer Julius Onah & Writer J.C. Lee Jul 30, 2019

Show notes

Adapted from J.C. Lee's play to the screen by director Julius Onah and J.C. Lee himself, "Luce" made its debut at this year's Sundance Film Festival where I had the pleasure of seeing it and being completely blown away by its tension, drama, themes and characters. I have seen it two more times since then and cannot wait to revisit what is surely one of the most riveting films of the year. Julius and J.C. were kind enough to chat with me about the film ahead of its release date on August 2nd. *Apologies about the audio during this recording, as the conditions on my end were not the most ideal* Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on...
