For this month's Patreon Throwback Podcast review, Nicole Ackman, Dan Bayer, Lauren LaMagna & Danilo Castro and I are taking a look back at where it all began. Director Zack Snyder's first official entry into the DC Extended Universe began in 2013 with "Man Of Steel" and at the time it was met with a fairly positive reception. It rebooted the Superman franchise, introduced the world to Henry Cavill and launched a fanbase that has continued to be passionate supporters of the director's work and the DCEU, even if critics have been less kind, till this day. What did we think of this film? The performances from Cavill, Michael Shannon, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe? The crafts on display, including Hans Zimmer's score? Tune in below to find out as we prepare ourselves for the upcoming 4-hour long "Zack Snyder's Justice League." Enjoy!

Interview With "Welcome To Chechnya" Director, David France & VFX Supervisor, Ryan Laney Mar 06, 2021

Show notes

Many expected the HBO Films documentary, "Welcome To Chechnya," to be shortlisted for this year's Oscars in the Best Documentary Feature category. However, what many didn't expect, is that it would simultaneously be shortlisted for Best Visual Effects. The film has resonated with many since its world premiere at last year's Sundance Film Festival due to its powerful story of activism, defiance and perseverance in the face of a corrupt and brutal regime. Director David France and visual effects supervisor Ryan Laney were both kind enough to talk to us about the film, highlighting the visual effects work done to protect the identities of many of the documentary's subjects and more! We hope you enjoy it!
