Interview With "I Love My Dad" Star, Patton Oswalt Aug 05, 2022

Show notes

"I Love My Dad" had its world premiere at the South By Southwest Film Festival (SXSW), where it won the Best Narrative Feature Competition jury prize and audience awards. The feature directorial debut of James Morosini (who also starred in and wrote the film) tells an unbelievably cringey true story about James' relationship with his father, played by Grammy and Emmy Award-winning actor Patton Oswalt. Patton was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about his character, working with Moronsini on his first feature, how he loves independent filmmaking, and more! Please check out the film, which is being released in theaters this weekend by Magnolia Pictures; take a listen down below and enjoy. Thank you!

The Next Best Series Podcast - Interview With "Barry" Emmy Nominee, Anthony Carrigan Aug 03, 2022

Show notes

"Barry" has become one of the must-watch shows on television. With each season growing in its dark intensity, one character viewers have latched onto as a fan favorite is the hilarious NoHo Hank, played brilliantly by Emmy Award-nominee Anthony Carrigan. Carrigan had the opportunity to show new sides of the beloved character this year, resulting in some of the best reviews of his career and a second nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He was kind enough to spend a few minutes chatting with me about his work on the HBO show this year, what he was reacting to behind that prison wall in the season finale, working with Bill Hader, and more. Please take a listen down below and enjoy! Thank you.

Interview With "Not Okay" Director/Writer, Quinn Shephard Aug 01, 2022

Show notes

Actress turned writer, and director Quinn Shephard made her feature directorial debut in 2017 with the release of "Blame." Now, here she is five years later with her follow-up film, which has a wider platform (the film is currently streaming on Hulu), a bigger cast, and budget. "Not Okay" tells the satirical story of a wannabe influencer and writer who is a compulsive liar, piggybacking off of the trauma of others, all in an attempt to go viral. The unlikable lead character is brought to vivid life by Zoey Deutch. Quinn was kind enough to spend a few moments talking about the film's main character, where the idea for the movie came from, discovering 2022's breakout star Mia Isaac and more. Please take a listen down below, enjoy and be sure to check out the film! Thank you.

"Thirteen Lives" Jul 30, 2022

Show notes

For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Josh Parham & Dan Bayer. Together, we're reviewing the latest film from director Ron Howard, "Thirteen Lives," starring Viggo Mortensen, Colin Farrell, and Joel Edgerton. A narrative feature re-telling of the miraculous 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue, the film is being released by Amazon (it will be streaming Prime Video next week) a year after the release of the well-received documentary "The Rescue." How do the two films compare? What did we think of the performances, writing, and crafts? We discuss all of these points and more in our review, which you can listen to down below. Thank you, and enjoy!

Show notes

"A Love Song" premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and played again at the Berlin and Tribeca Film Festivals. It received near-universal praise for its subdued but beautiful direction, writing, and performances from Dale Dickey and Wes Studi. Please take a few minutes to listen to the conversation below and be sure to check out the film now playing in limited release from Bleecker Street. Thank you, and enjoy!

Interview With "Nope" Composer, Michael Abels Jul 25, 2022

Show notes

Composer Michael Abels has had a fruitful collaboration with Academy Award-winner Jordan Peele, having created the scores for all three of his films, "Get Out," "Us," and now, "Nope." Each has been released to critical acclaim, but "Nope" may be the composer's most ambitious work yet, combining elements from the horror, sci-fi, and western genres to create a soundscape that is unshakable as it leaves a lasting impact on you as you walk out of the theater. Michael was kind enough to return to the podcast (we previously interviewed him for "Us") to talk about his work on the film, working with Peele, what he has coming up next (an opera!?), and more! Please take a listen down below and enjoy! Thank you.
