Interview With The "Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3" Visual Effects Team Feb 26, 2024

Show notes

"Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3" was one of the few bright spots Marvel had in 2023, as the third entry in the franchise brought forth an emotional and thrilling conclusion to James Gunn's trilogy with these beloved characters. It remains the only mini-franchise within the larger MCU to receive an Oscar nomination for each of its films for Best Visual Effects. The Oscar-nominated visual effects team of Stephane Ceretti, Alexis Wajsbrot, Guy Williams, and Theo Bialek were all kind enough to spend time dissecting the work that went into this massive production. Please be sure to check out the film, which is up for your consideration for Best Visual Effects and is now available to stream on Disney+. Thank you, and enjoy!

Interview With "The Creator" Sound Team Feb 26, 2024

Show notes

"The Creator" contained one of the most fascinating productions of 2023 as it was shot uncommonly compared to other studio-backed sci-fi blockbusters of today to keep its budget low. The work throughout post-production was equally as interesting as the Oscar-nominated Sound Editor and Sound Designers Erik Aadahl, Ethan Van Der Ryn, and Production Sound Mixer Ian Voigt were kind enough to lend us their perspective on what went into creating the sound for Gareth Edwards' film. Please be sure to check out the film, which is available to stream now on Disney+ and is up for your consideration for Best Sound & Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards. Thank you, and enjoy!

Last night, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) held their 30th annual awards ceremony, rewarding the best acting in film and television for 2023. For the second year in a row, the ceremony was streamed through Netflix, and the celebration of thirty years was entirely on display with various reunions and an all-around classy show that celebrated the union after a hard-fought victory following the SAG-AFTRA strikes earlier this year! There were some expected wins, unexpected wins, moving speeches, and one very interesting shakeup in one of the acting races as we head into the final days of Oscar voting, which concludes on February 27th. Joining me for this instant reactions podcast straight from my apartment, where we finished watching the ceremony live, were Dan Bayer, J Don Birnam & Nathaniel Rogers. Tune in below to listen and enjoy!

Interviews With "Oppenheimer" Stars Cillian Murphy & Emily Blunt Feb 22, 2024

Show notes

"Oppenheimer" has been a juggernaut this awards season, garnering praise, respect, and adoration for its technical accomplishments, writing and direction from Christopher Nolan, and the extraordinary performances of its ensemble cast, led by Cillian Murphy. Nominated for the first time in both of their careers for Oscars, Cillian Murphy (Best Actor) and Emily Blunt (Best Supporting Actress) have worked long and hard to receive this level of recognition finally. Murphy was kind enough to spend a few minutes with me before the Academy luncheon to discuss his journey through this awards season, working as the lead role in a Christopher Nolan film, and more, while Emily Blunt was interviewed by Ema Sasica few weeks earlier about her experience as well. Please be sure to check out the film, which is now available to stream on Peacock and is up for your consideration at this year's Academy Awards in thirteen categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Supporting Actor. You can listen to our other interviews with the film's Oscar-nominated artisans here. Thank you, and enjoy!
